Hey Boreas people, anyone have a spare deck with the larger wick holes laying around?

Good luck with that. I bought 2, used one, and could never get it to stop leaking. Vaped great until it all leaked out on your mod/hands. Now those sit in the stash while I have 4 boreas in daily rotation and 3 more stashed.

Griffins are the same style of RTA right? I have had a bunch of griffins, some clones some authentic, my griffin 25 I've had forever is holding up pretty well on the seepage issue

Idk I heard that from someone else on here so I'm going to have to look more into it and decide whether or not I should buy it In a few weeks

I see the Gemini on super clearance on several websites, like $5 or $10 ...there is a reason for that!

yeah, i had better luck with my griffin (got a 25 version I never built also) so it could have just been a wicking issue for me with the gemini since I was new to RTA when I was using that and new to rayon also.

Always liked the Boreas, it was a great at tank in its day. However, if you have people telling you to buy it now, you are listening to people that have not tried much gear lately. The Boreas is old hat. There are a bunch of tanks that have come out this year, that smack the Boreas around in the flavor and clouds department. IMO, the only reason to buy a OG Boreas is if you are on a tight budget and you find it for under $10. Otherwise there are much better choices out there. Same goes for that Gemini your looking at.

The Boreas is still very much a good tank that was only recently knocked off it's throne by the Reload in my case.

If your talking about the kindbright reload then I don't think so I've used neither but if it was between these 2 I'd go with the boreas atleast it has a liquid flow chamber, but at the same time leave the boreas sitting on a tilt with the liquid flow open and it leaks everywhere from what I've read and it's got like an 8ml tank

I used to have the Kindbright Reload, it's alright for the Authentic is much better. So much that I have 4 of them and I also have 5 of the Boreas which the Reload I like better. As for leaking issues with both, I have none. The Reload is easier to build, wick and fill. The Boreas isn't that difficult and when you fill you just need to burp it.

Yeah I wouldnt recommend a Boreas to someone totally new to building, maybe an Ijoy Exo ;) But I will be filling my Boreas once again after I get more wire in the mail. Do wish I hadnt lost the larger wick hole deck

Idk when I buy an RTA I feel like maybe saying fuck it maybe being stupid and buying the Vaporesso and just hope the leaking will be different for me cause I just think it's the flow valve wasn't shut on your guys so it leaked I could be wrong though but I really liked what I saw about it even though it may or may not leak with the valve shut

I know I'm a weird one, but I have this strange thought that just because something is old, does not mean it's no longer good.
I still think the kayfun 3.1 and taifun are the best mtl rtas out there- both are still in use.
Additionally, the tugboat v2, petri: and, some of my mechmods from 4 and 5 years ago have stayed in regular use.
By that logic, I see no reason that the boreas could not still be considered a good tank. Gear does not magically go from great to not so good; because of age. I can see a person who has used it for a while starting to see it as stale, but, to a person whose not used it before, I would think that it would still feel fresh.

On the leaking, I solved the leaking rta issues by using rdas.
I have good luck with the troll and petri rtas, for the wife, since she doesn't like to drip. (Pun intended)

No you're not weird, I still vape on a number of older devices that kick some butt.

Boreas is still a great tank that still puts a number of newer tanks to shame. It was my favorite =<25mm tank until the Reload came around, that's why I have a number of them stockpiled.

Any spare Boreas decks(large wick holes?)

You see, a long time ago, I decided to sand the copper 510 pin down to try to get the tank to sit lower on my mod. Of course, I sanded it too much, and couldnt get it to screw back in. So I decided to just try the other deck with smaller wick holes, and it was fine so I just chucked the other one :/ now I mix juice that's 85-95% vg and like higher wattages than back then, so I miss the larger holed deck

Yep, same here, seemed to be press fit issues, slow seepage, always found a juice-slime puddle under the tank. Don't waste your money on the Gemini

did what happened with your leakage occur when you open the top flow air way like in this video?

It has been over a year since I used mine but I always close down AFC/JFC when refilling any tank.

yeah your supposed to do that so that it doesn't flood the coil shell and once your done filling it open the valve a little bit so some can go into the channel and travel up the cotton but I've read it could be improper wicking like your not stuffing enough cotton into the juice flow port which somewhat makes sense to me prebuilt coils are stuffed with cotton to make a barrier from the inner cotton wrapped around the coils to make it so it doesnt flood or leak

Just drill the smaller holes a little bit larger. I did that on all the small hole decks on all my Boreas.

Anybody know where I can get a seal set for this tank? When ever I go to fill it I shut the juice flow off and unscrew the top cap it leaks like a sieve around the ring that holds the base in. I had it apart I don't know how many times and cannot get it to not leak when I fill it. It (so far) has not leaked any when its together.

TBH, I just built it for the first time yesterday and I've had it for a year or so. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the leaking issue or the nichrome 80 build I put in it but it has horrible flavor too.

Bottom fill it -

When you top fill, make sure it is wicked correctly - the Boreas LOVES wicking - needs quite a bit more than your average RTA

Don't know what to tell you about the flavor - this is still considered one of the most flavorful RTAs out there

google or search this thread for the the boreas burp

turn it upside down and let the deck drain into the tank and then close the air/juice flow control before you turn it back over and refill it. You also want to make sure you dont tighten the cap fully after you fill it, turn it upside down and open the air/juice flow control before you finish sealing the cap, after refilling it.

Does it leak around the 510 pin? There is a tiny o-ring there that is easy to lose - it's about the size of a 510 drip tip o ring so that's an option

I also suggest opening the juice flow a bit before unscrewing the fill cap, then closing it back before filling, open again before rescrewing cap on upside down

No, it leaks between the metal ring under the tank and the airflow / juice flow control. Even with the air / juice flow shut off as soon as I unscrew the top cap it leaks.

When you first tank the tank off your mod and flip it upside down, are you giving it a minute with the tank tilted at about a 45 degree angle for the juice which would be in the very bottom section of the tank to slide down the side and into the glass portion? It sounds to me like maybe you're just flipping it upside down and immediately closing the airflow, then flipping it back right side up and then unscrewing the top cap. Doing the latter will ensure that there is still juice in the very bottom section, which would be juice leaking out.

If it's not that, then one other thought. By "leak" is it possible that you simply mean "there is some wetness around the airflow ring"? The Boreas is definitely a tank where you need to have a paper towel handy when filling. With the coils being right by the airholes, splatter is obviously going to build up through a tank's worth of use, so we can't expect the airflow ring to be bone dry during the filling process.

No, I leave the jfc closed.

Yes, I leave it upside-down until a while. Until I can't see any juice running back to the top. Then close the air / juice flow. Then turn it upright and remove the top cap. As soon as I loosen the top cap it starts to bubble and juice leaks out between the metal ring under the tank and the AFC ring.

bubbling is normal, a bit of weeping can happen, full blown leaking = likely bad o-rings under the afc ring. When you break the tank down to clean that entire ring can come off. I would suggest a complete tear down and inspection and replace any suspect o-rings. I have 4 that had been in use for over a year (until I switched to squonking a few months ago) and never had to replace a single o-ring but I could see one getting pinched or torn. I got 2 or 3 new in the box still, and spare parts for the 4 that I was using, so PM me if you need any spare parts or want a new one cheap, as I doubt I will ever use them again now that I am a squonkaholic.

You might try opening the jfc before you remove the topcap ...
:deadhorse:
Or you could go through the trouble of replacing o-rings when you may not need to- either way, good luck

I must be misunderstanding what you're meaning. I have the airflow / juice control open, turn the tank upside down and drain back into tank. Close AFC and turn tank upright. You're saying to then reopen the JFC? Then take the top off? Then close it again and fill it?

Yes, exactly! Open the JFC a little to let air into the tank when you start to take off the fill cap, then close it again. If you don't, your tank will try to suck in air from somewhere else to fill the vacuum, like through the o-rings between your tank and juice flow control ring!

And actually, I don't even let the tank below the coils drain to refill, I just open JFC a smidge, start to open the top cap, close JFC again, fill, start to put cap back on Then open JFC, turn upside down and tighten fill cap.

I do close the JFC before turning right side up, then opening again to where I like to vape, I believe this burps it well enough.

Just fill it from the bottom. I do it that way and never have leaking issues. If you are removing it from the mod anyway, just unscrew the bottom, fill it, (you do not even need to close the juice flow, or burp it, or wait for anything to drain). Put the bottom back on "and vaape on it". I have been using this method for years. Works perfect, unless you DO have a bad o-ring...then you will need to replace that of course.

Nothing on Eciggity? They always had those things and had discounts...
If you simply can't find one, let me know, as I have two Boreaiye (plural?). I just got the Zeus dual coil and have been entertaining myself with it; wouldn't mind parting with a spare part.
How is that Zeus dual? I tend to dislike geekvape tanks but it looked pretty decent

I checked subtanksupplies.com but it cost $7+shipping so I rather buy from someone (who doesn't use anymore) whole tank or gearbest route is seems fine too.

I stocked up. Between ECiggity, Fasttech, and folks selling them used, I think I have 8 or 9 of them now and no broken glass (knock on wood). It's my favorite tank, so hopefully I'm good until Augvape comes to their senses and starts production again.

I got one of these a year ago maybe. I couldn't really get into it. It whistles like crazy but maybe I could get used to that. I may have been building it wrong too. I could try new things. Mine has sat unused for a long time. Maybe I shouldn't have given up so easy. I think I'll give it another shot sometime soon.
