Old Smoker

Hi everyone my name is Mike from St. Augustine FL and I have been vaping on and off well it's seems forever
I am a heavy smoker and I've been unable to quit using my old ecigs
I figured it was time for an update since the ecigs don't really satisfy...Recently I purchased 2-Jomotech Lite 40s and Halo Torque 56/18 mg 100% VG it comes with 0.5 coil carts
So far the Lite 40 produces a lot of vapor compared to the ecig
But I don't really feel like I am getting the throat hit (I end up coughing)
And the draw on it is real easy with the Lite 40 and it produces a lot of vapor
But I can feel a real difference between ecig (the draw on that is a little tighter...if that is the correct term) but not as much vapor as compared to the Lite 40
I am trying to replace smoking and I think I can if I can only get the right eliquid and I guess the right device
Thanks

I adapted a ecig tip to the Jomotech Lite 40
Since my original post I have been trying different eliquid with different variations on nicotine

Sounds like you like the easier draw and the more vapor that the Lite 40 gives you, and better for you than ecig, correct?
What about the draw? There's a couple diff kinds. MTL (mouth to lung) which is what an ecig(cigalike) is going to be. Like take a puff then inhale, like a cigarette. Then there's DTL ( direct to lung) like the Lite 40, where you just put your mouth on it and inhale. which are you looking for?
I see your willing to change devices if need be. I spent $125 on my first vape set up.
Throat hit can be a want. For me it was at first. But as long as your vape is pleasant to you and you get enough nic to satisfy that craving, then the want/need for a cig goes away.

What do you like about the Lite 40?
What, about the Lite 40, do you want to be different. (other than throat hit)

Tl;DR cliffs notes
-it's unclear in your OP if you like a tight draw or not
-it will take some willpower to switch over to vaping
-It might help you to try a higher power device. That was my experience anyway
-Try some juice with less VG so that you will have more throat hit. Use 3mg/6mg for higher wattage vaping.
-Getting into the hobby side of vaping may help you stop smoking. It makes you more personally invested in quitting.
-You can do it!

It sounds like you are missing the throat hit. I suggest getting some juice that is higher in PG than the Max VG stuff you have right now. It's unclear in your OP if you like the tight e-cig MTL draw or if you like the draw from your lite 40. If you like a tighter draw you could always just close down the airflow on your tank.

For me personally it did take some willpower for the first couple weeks when I was switching over to vaping. I would still crave cigs, but it was bearable with a vape. When craving a smoke I would tell myself to use my vape and if in 10 minutes I still wanted a smoke (after using my vape) then I would let myself smoke one. Usually after that 10 minutes I would be over it, but sometimes I ended up having a smoke. Over a few weeks I was going longer and longer without smoking. I was smoking 2-3 packs a day and had been smoking for 10+ years.

I personally couldn't do it with mouth-to-lung type devices at low wattages. Ever since vaping became a thing with the little cigalikes back in the day I have tried to quit smoking by vaping. I tried so many times, but I could never really do it until I got my first box mod that could create huge clouds. If you are willing to try a different device I would suggest that you get something with more power and a tank made for higher power. Something like a battlestar mod with a baby beast, fireluke or cleito 120. With a higher powered device you would def want to drop your nic down. 18mg on a device like I'm describing, at 80+ watts, would be asking to get nic sick. I would try 6mg with a device like that.

It is also a good idea to find some juice that you really like. Go to a vape store and sample a bunch of juices. That was a big turning point for me when I was first trying to quit. It made it so that I didn't want to put my mod down because I enjoyed the flavor so much. It made it so that when I had a smoke I would think "damn this tastes like shit. I want more of that deep fried twinky!"

Ok one last suggestion, because it really helped and still does help me stay off the smokes. You could try getting a rebuildable atomizer. For me it helped to keep me more involved in my vaping and to think of it as more than just a way to quit smoking. Getting into the hobby side of vaping really helped me to become attached to vaping. It made me not want to go back to smoking, because I would miss out on all the fun I have building coils and rebuilding and tweaking my attys.

Good luck OP! You can do it, you just have to keep trying and maybe try a different way.

Seems you've adapted a MTL tip on a DTL tank. Could be a hurdle getting the vape you want, as most tanks aren't good for both.
http://www.ecigclick.co.uk/mouth-to-lung-vs-direct-to-lung/

I've found only 1 coil type for Lite 40 and it's .5Ω with an unregulated mod.
Should get a tank that has multiple coil Ω choices, along with a variable wattage regulated mod. That way you choose the coil, and what wattage for said coil you prefer. That's also going to help a lot in determining throat hit, as well as how warm the vape is- which creates throat hit.
I didn't link this as a suggestion (altho it may wind up being one) , it's an example of control.
It can take 5 different coils, and has variable wattage. It puts you in control of what it gives you.

What worked for me after 40+ years of smoking good tobacco and cigars:
  1. NET (tobacco flavors with no artificial flavorings)
  2. A single Kanthal coil atomizer, low power (12 watts with 1.0+ resistance) Kayfun or Nautilus tank is excellent
  3. A regulated mod with good voltage regulation (Provari, Dicodes). Cheap mods may or may not regulate predictably.
What I needed and found was:
  1. Tobacco flavor (I like Burley/Virginias/&Cigars)
  2. The right nicotine level (trial & error - ended up at 12mg/ml)
  3. Reliable atomizer that prioritizes flavor and is easy to use without leakage

^ That's pretty much what worked for me as well. Only difference being I didn't use tobacco flavored juice like I thought would need. It was a fruity flavor. I was lucky enough to find a shop that cared about helping smokers and all their sample juices were in Nautilus minis that you could try right there on the spot. And that's what I got, the Nautilus, not the mini, and a single 18650 regulated mod. And that worked.

Since the TS hasn't responded and looks as tho he's trying to get a cig type draw on that Lite 40, about all I can say is
get the original Nautilus 5ml or a Nautilus 2 that's 2 ml, and an external 18650 regulated mod that's more future proof than an internal low mah battery.
That's going to replicate a cig much better than what he's using.

But I don't really feel like I am getting the throat hit (I end up coughing)

Use a higher PG to VG ratio, 50/50 perhaps and have a drink handy while you vape. Water is best or DIET soda.

I'll list some links for you.

Can’t go wrong with original Nautilus or Nautilus 2 for starting out with MTL.
https://101vape.com/tanks/270-aspire-nautilus.html

Aspire Cygnet 80w $30. is a single battery mod with basic easy to use wattage adjustment. Has diff colors.
https://101vape.com/mods/2443-aspire-cygnet-mod-80w-gray-gold.html
Sigelei E1 80W $27. has more features. Again, diff colors.
https://101vape.com/mods/2318-sigelei-e1-80w-tc-box-mod-gray.html
Neither break the bank and for shipping $ purposes all can be found at 101 Vape. As with most, discount for newsletter sign up.

An external charger is better/safer than using mods built in charger. Nitecore i2 is $15 and will also charge other types of rechargable batteries.
https://101vape.com/battery-charger...er-by-nitecore.html?search_query=i2&results=7

The more you vape the less those built in internal batteries will last without charging. As an example, the 2 highly regarded 18650's below are rated at 3000mAH.
Use IMRbatteries.com or Illumn.com. for authenticity because some are rewrapped as another brand and.or have misguided ratings on them, and local shops charge 2x as much.
Get Sony VCT6 or Samsung 30Q . The $5 30Q is out of stock atm, so here's the VCT6.
https://www.imrbatteries.com/sony-vtc6-18650-3000mah-15a-flat-top-battery/
Get 2 and you'll always have one charged and ready to go.

If at a local shop, they try to sell you an internal battery mod with no voltage adjustment, ask them what they use for a mod. And if they say mechanical, ask them about variable wattage. I’m not suggesting there isn’t some non-regulated starter kit out there that will help. But for the ability to dial in the vape you want, a tank that has coil choices + a regulated mod is so much more flexible.

It's an investment. Your all in for for about $80 but the mod, batteries, and charger will last a long long time - no matter the tank.
Plan for success!

I hope this helps. My dad was a heavy smoker and he started vaping in the summer of 2017. He started off with vaping at 12mg nicotine. He was using the nautilus but he was still turning to cigarettes as well. My husband and I decided to buy him the Smok G150 which comes with the TFV8 Big Baby tank. Once he started using the Smok kit he started experimenting with different flavours (because with the nautilus the flavours were pretty muted). Once he found the type of flavours he likes and what a huge variety there is he was able to put cigarettes aside completely. He slowly starting decreasing his nicotine levels and now he's down to 3mg and it's only been about 8 months! So for my dad he was able to quit because he really hates the smell of cigarettes but he loves the way they feel when he's smoking. He gets the same nicotine satisfaction from vaping and doesn't smell like crap after.
