Percentage for LA and/or TFA Watermelon?

MitchB

Member For 1 Year
Hi! So I have been trying to get a decent "cool" watermelon e liquid down. I currently have LA Watermelon, TFA Watermelon, and FE Lemon. Also have some Koolada, sucralose & EM.

I am vaping a mix now of 8% LA watermelon, 1% sucralose, 1% koolada and a drop of lemon per 10ml. It is pretty decent, I really like the flavor I am getting, but would prefer it to be a little stronger.

Anyone have a good idea of what percentages I could mix these flavors I have at? Want to use LA and TFA, or just LA by itself. Prefer koolada, but if I can get decent flavor, sweeter is not nessecary. Thanks so much!

Try 12% Watermelon, 2% koolada, 1% sweetener. If you like really icy do koolada at 3%-4%, I have found that the koolada can mute the flavor just a bit but I like it super cool so its worth it for me. Lorann's watermelon is pretty good on its own so I personally don't use sweetener but that's kind of personal preference.

Hey, Thanks! I am going to give this a try! I usually use about 1-2% koolada! I also have some more flavoring on the way now. Watermelons from CAP (sweet and double), FLV, and FA. I also have other flavors like INW Melons, FLV Wild Melons & more coming! Excited to try them! Will let you know how it does @ 12% (=

Thanks for the suggestion, for me, it is a bit stronger at 12% rather than 8! Still not where I want it to be as far as strength so I will try mixing it with some of the other melon I will have in a few days. Appreciate it!

Using another percent or two of lemon will make the watermelon pop more. I would go with watermelon 12% of the 2 combined and at least 2% of the lemon. FLV wild melon at 3-4% is a good stand alone, also good with a 2-3% watermelon boost.

Wow, thanks! This is really helpful. About to mix up a 5ml of what you suggested and going to give it a try! I like the FE lemon, it just seems strong, so I am going to try 2% to start. Will update. Also, good to hear, from reviews the FLV wild melon sounds tasty. Excited to try it! Besides what I mentioned there is also LA bubblegum, TFA Dragon fruit, FA marshmallow, CAP sweet strawberry, and INW Grape also coming (= Trying what you suggested now.

TFA dragon fruit is your best friend. Wonderfully diverse. Lemon generally fades in a couple of weeks. I usually make small batches with lemon flavors or I mix the recipe and add the lemon as needed.

@Letitia9 I mixed up what you suggested and its pretty darn good! Better than what I had mixed up before. Thank you for the suggestion! Also, good to know about the dragon fruit. Cant wait to try it out.
Get some WF pixie stick candy and add 3% to the WM/Lemon and it will rock your world.

Hm, Interesting! I looked it up, I may try that out. Seeing that is is a bit tart - how would you describe it? I thought about getting some FW hard candy, but am not the biggest fan of FW.

Not a hard candy fan but FW hard candy is popular with some. I have quite a few FW flavors I enjoy. Their natural blood orange, natural orange, grape, and dbl apple are all very good. The pixie actually tastes exactly as you would expect, I like it a bit better than TFA sweet & tart. S&T is good but a bit dry, have to add some INW cactus or TFA quince to wet it up.

Hm, good to know. I have heard people talking about their blood orange before! Im going to add that WF Pixie stick to my list for my next order, though ill have quite a few flavors to experiment with. They should be here saturday.

Hoping one of these next watermelons is stronger. I really the taste of the LA, but its just not strong enough for me. The TFA I can hardly taste on its own, has to be mixed with other flavors and is more of a complementary note for me. I had some some FW watermelon candy, which smelled potent and exactly like a jolly rancher. The taste, was stronger than the others, but not my favorite in the world. It was decent.

Man, that recipe sounds awesome and is simple which I like. Im going to save that. Which watermelons out of the ones you have tried are the strongest tasting for you?? I have FA, CAP (sweet and double), and FLV on the way. Hoping the normal INW melon is good too.

Strongest WM I have is LB bombwire, good strong flavor with definite candy notes.Take all your WM and make a mix of 1-2% of each. My WM are from LB, TFA, FA, FE, and Purlium. Just mixed a tester of the Purlium and haven't tasted it yet. So far I have to blend to get a good WM. WM is a "soft" flavor without a candy note or a booster of some sort imo. I like in your face flavor. WM and strawberry plays well together, add 2% dragon fruit for a pop. Maybe start with 7% WM - 5% SB - 2% DF, might need a tweak but should be a good starting point. Not familiar with the Cap SB but their fruit flavors usually need high % to taste.

I just looked that LB up, had never seen or heard of it before. I will do that! I was thinking about doing a mix like that. I like in your face flavor too. When I was vaping juices my local shop carried, I always went for the stronger ones.

I just remembered I do have some FW strawberry - I could try a mix of that and the watermelons I already have. I have some FW bubblegum too - Its just alright. Hoping I like the LA more. Let me know how that WM from Purlium is. May be one I'm interested in.

I will, I usually don't taste testers for 3 days. You can only get Purlium from Nicotine River. The ones I've already tried are very good.

@Letitia9 Received my flavoring today! I just mixed up some FLV Wild Melon @ 3% and it is pretty damn good! What would you recomend mixing it at? Much more flavor regardless. Probably going to try out my new watermelons and mix one of them with it! May add some TFA dragon fruit or FA Marshmallow.

3% wild melon
2% dragon fruit
This is where I would start. Would be too sweet for me with marshmallow. SB and DF pair well. I always start with 2% DF in a mix, 5% if I want it to be the forward note. Makes a great cheesecake.

Awesome, Im going to give that a go! Sitting here watching a celtics game finishing up my tester of the wild melon and enjoying it! Still really excited to test out all the watermelons I received. Also, the grape INW. Ill let you know how your suggestion goes! Really appreciate all the help.

Hi, Just wanted to let you know this was pretty damn good! I liked it. Thank you for the suggestion!

Do you have any suggestions for a recipe I could make with watermelon as a main note?? Here are my flavors again so you don't have to look for them. lol

Sweet Strawberry CAP
INW Grape
Bubblegum LA
Double Watermelon Cap
Dragonfruit TPA
melon INW
Marshmallow FA
Watermelon FA
Sweet Watermelon CAP
Watermelon LA
Watermelon TFA
Wild Melon FLV

If not, all good, appreciate all the help regardless.

SB and DF go very well together, not familiar with Cap SB tho. Grape gum in a no brainer. DF goes with most every fruit, at 1% will give it a pop without overtaking the forward notes.SB and WM also pair well. I would also mix 2% of all my WMs together. Try the DF 5% with 2-3% MM for a sweeter juice. I'm not a fan of MM flavor so not sure how much is too much. I only use MM occ at .5-1% for mouth feel. I think adding 5% of the SB to DF & wild melon mix would be tasty. I don't have the Cap sweet WM yet, please let me know what you think. The Cap sweet fruit flavors generally need higher percentages. I start those at 8% for a single and 4-5% in mixes. I have INW grape clear, think I start at 3-4% in a mix. Not my best grape but good. Maybe 6% grape and 1% DF plus the gum. Have no idea how much of the gum. @Mykreign can help with the gum. Maybe not so much with the SB tho, bless his heart.

Hi Letitia and Mitch. It's about my bed time and I have a 2 year old climbing on me lol. So I can't go very in depth.

For watermelon as a main note.

6% LA watermelon
3% LA bubblegum
1% CAP sweet strawberry
0.5% FA marshmallow

I'd start with that and cater to your tastes.

Wow @Letitia9 This is so very helpful! Always coming in here dropping the e liquid knowledge. Thanks so much! I'm going to save that in my notes so I have it. I appreciate it very much. I imagine that will be very useful as I learn about mixing.
EDIT: I will let you know how the cap sweet WM is as well!

@Mykreign That sounds good! In depth enough for me! I am going to try that and see how it is, adjust for taste if nessecary. Thank you! Will let you know how it is either tonight or tomorrow :)

Holy cow! I couldnt sleep so I mixed up a 5ml of this. It is one of the best juices I have made so far! I went ahead and mixed up a 30ml to vape on while I perfect this recipe. Is this a one you use or did you come up with it on the spot?

I would like it to be a tad bit stronger. What do you think would be best to bump up percentage wise? I was thinking maybe take the LA watermelon down to 3% and adding in some of a different watermelon for a bit more realness? Thank you though, this is awesome and makes DIY worth it!! I love it.

Haha that's awesome! You gotta love that feeling when you find a new juice you like.

I have never tried that and I just made it up on the spot.

You can add another watermelon to it. I'd be curious how it turns out because my sister loves LA watermelon but it's a candy watermelon. So I'd be curious how it mixes with more authentic tasting ones.

Or you could just raise the percentage of the LA watermelon.

I think I will try this! It is pretty damn good as is though. Once I'm through this 30ml Im going to adjust the watermelon. I think I may try a similar recipe with my INW grape. Thanks so much though! I really like it. Saving it for sure!

You picked some good ones! Inawera melon is fantastic. But its more of an orange tasting melon. I've been using it alot lately.

I only have one of the Capellas. Its Sweet Watermelon. I found it to be pretty weak. It wasn't what I was looking for. It can be alright but needs sweetener.

Flavorah Wild Melon is really good. I've just used it stand alone. It's eye-opening good.

Theres a secret weapon when working with watermelon flavors. It's Inawera Cactus. It don't take much. Cactus+FAWatermelon was the first time I ever made a flavor "pop" lol. Its an over-used term but its real in some instances.

FA Watermelon+FA Raspberry is another combo @wllmc suggested that works great too.

If you dont have Cactus yet, you might want to pick some up. It works well with alot of other fruits.

TFA watermelon candy 3%
SnV but better after 3 days.

I haven't tried the INW Melon yet! I just tried the INW Grape @ 4% and really like it though! I think i am going to add a little bubblegum to it.

I haven't tried the CAP sweet watermelon yet, smells pretty decent.

Yes! Wild melon is very good. Trying to figure out different recipes and mixes I can do right now.

I almost ordered some INW cactus with my flavors but decided not to, I definetly will with my next order. I notice, while the e liquids I have made are good, They are never as strong as the ones I was getting from my local vape shops, so thats the only disappointing part.

I will also get some raspberry, have heard good things about it! Thanks for the tips and suggestions!

That is from lack of sweetener. I finally broke down and ordered Cap super sweet. One or two drops per 30ml is a good starting point. Sort of a love/hate for me, may try TFA, hear it is tamer and easier to work with I've read. @Just Frank has more experience than I do, sweeteners are new to me.

I thought it might be! I do have some sucralose and some TFA Cotton Candy which is basically just EM if I understand correctly. Would either of those work? I'm getting ready to mix up some more INW grape, would 1% sweetener be okay??

EM is already in some flavors and can mute. Split the mix and add marshmallow to one and sucralose to the other. I'd start at one drop per 10ml of the sucralose.

When I first started out doing DIY I used LB Sweetener, but it didn't really make a difference. So, I will look to see what BCF has in stock next time I order.

Cromwell has a stevia he really likes but I can't remember which one. There are a dozen stevia variations it seems like.

Lots of people use the stevia from Now, others including myself use liquid stevia by pyure. However there's lots of other things that can sweeten and not mainly a additive but can work as one if used at lower percentages.

Fruits for example like pear can make it sweeter but also creamier.
Dragon fruit can sweeten to an extend but also add juicesness, brightness and can pop some specific other fruits.
Black currant can do that as well.
Fuji apple and cactus all well known to slightly sweeten even tho most use them just for juicyness.

Then there's the creams, meringue, sweet cream, whipped cream even fresh cream while not sweet by itself can sweeten up a vape.
Marshmallow and honey can do that too.

And then there's the obvious additives EM, Sucolose, Super Sweet, Sweetener, Stevia and whatever else they are all called lol, yet each and everyone has its purpose and "correct" percentage. Sadly tho even the smallest amount of EM and super sweet is a coil killer, and I know because my husband won't touch juices that don't have at least 0.25% super sweet or cotton candy in them, in fact 0.75 or 1% is his favorite, for me a nightmare since I then have to rewick his RTA on a daily/2day basis lol.

So play around with it and see what you personally like and at what percentage. its lots of trial and errors sadly.

@Letitia9 Hi! Just wanted to let you know I haven't noticed much difference in coil life with using the 2 drops per 10ml of sucralose! I had ran a little over 90ml through my super tank .5 coil, however I just purchased the Freemax fireluke mesh and had to give it a go, so the super tank is on the back burner now. Even if there was a slight difference, the much improved flavor is worth it for me.

Thanks again for the suggestion, the sweeter really worked out. Good trade off for me even if the coils last slightly less time. Vaping this https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/3427 right now! I really liked elements pink lemonade however that stuff is a coil killer! This may be my new adv. haha.

Did you ever try the purilum watermelon?

Thanks for the update. Pur watermelon has good flavor but is soft. Put it up for a couple to see if it's a late bloomer. I'll let you know. May have to up the percentage or pair with another wm to boost. What brand sucralose?

I never vaped LA Watermelon until today. I can say without a doubt, I like Purilums Watermelon better. After having PUR's first, LA's tastes a little musky. Where PUR's is just clear Jolly Rancher taste. It's weird. You have to try them both to see what I mean. If you like LorAnns alot, an upgrade awaits.

Nice! I will probably order that next. Thanks for letting me know! Only thing I notice with loranns, is I get used to it very quick. I will be vaping it, and its very good but after awhile it tastes like nothing to me. May go ahead and mix up either FLV, FA or either of CAP (double and sweet) watermelons today. Haven't vaped one of those since I started using sweetener. Any suggestions?

I get that too, to an extent. I used to vape on four recipes all the time. For months I did it. Then I started trying new stuff. I gave those ADVs a good long break. After a month or so I revisited some of them. It was almost like trying them for the first time again! I picked up on all the suble things that made me love them in the first place. The lesson was, keep things fresh. Try new things. Recipes/flavors dont get played out when you got a rotation of variety going on.

Just mixed up some FA Watermelon @ 4% and am surprised, actually enjoying it! There used to be a shop juice I always purchased called "Simply Watermelon" , It reminds me a bit of that. I like it.

Thinking next I will try mixing both LA & FA watermelon. Thinking maybe 2.5% FA and 5% LA? Any suggestions on mixing percentages?

@Letitia9 Also, I am just using ecigexpress sucralose by the way!
