Fried Alien 220 what now?

So I had my Alien 220 in my backpack today with my crown 3 on it. The bag was sitting on a table all day and the mod was upright the whole time. I got to my car and tried to take a vape and found that it was dead, would not fire. I took the batteries out to find juice had leaked in through the 510 pin al the way through the mod. So I got home took it all apart and wiped it clean. I have it apart now sitting to dry. I should also mention it smells really bad it's a burnt smell. It doesn't look like there is any singing anywhere but the smell is pretty strong. I'm hoping I can let it dry and put it back together and it will be fine. I did this after a little water got inside my AL85 and it's been fine ever since. I am a bit worried that even if it does work that I shouldn't use it. So it looks like I may need a new mod and I was hoping people might offer some thoughts on what they are using and liking. I have a crown 3, arco 2 and a FIreluke mesh is my main tank. I also plan to get a Amitt 25 and leaning how to build. So something that works well and or looks good with those. I want something that is dual 1860 as I have those and I really only need around 90watts as of now. Also if it has the ability to charge inside the mod that's a plus. I'm hearing that it is not safe to charge in mods? This sounds ridiculous to me as they have charging ports that I would assume are for this purpose. But internal charging for me is a nice to have not a deal breaker. Thanks everyone.

What I’ve always been told about charging your batteries inside the mod is that there is not as much venting when the battery is inside the vape. And that if something were to go wrong and it blows up you’ve only lost your charger not your whole vape.

I’ve owned a lot of mods with pass through charging but I’ve never utilized it. Plus I like to keep on Vaping so I always have 2-3 pair of batteries. One set charging, one set I’m using and one set ready to go.

It’s not that you can’t do it, Its just that it’s not the most recommended

Well Thank you that makes more sense now.

My girlfriends got a little wet. Nothing like soaked. A couple of hours later the Alien spontaneously caught fire while in her pocket. If that's not exciting enough, she was waiting for a float plane when it happened (in Alaska). A fellow passenger yelled at her, you're on fire!

I say pitch it. They are faaaaar too inexpensive to risk your life, or the lives of those around you.

OMG! well That is not good news at all I guess I'm looking for a new mod and not a new Alien.

Yes that is what I'm finding. So far I like the Drag Mod, The Cylon and the Vaporesso Revenger X. I'd like to find one that I ca just buy the mod as I havre three tanks. Unless I find something that comes with a better tank than the Fireluke mesh tank.

The Cylon is a damn good chinese mass produced mod, which seem to hold up well...haven't heard any complaints since its fruition.

Per charging in mods: The key is to make sure all cells are fully charged. This is a non-issue for single battery mods.

When there's more than one battery involved then the mod should ideally balance charge the cells. Not all do; so the general recommendation is not to charge with the mod.

Most mods will at least meter both cells and report imbalanced batteries (and stop charging/firing). So, it's "generally safe."

Should you have a really low charge on one cell, a full charge on the other, a "dumb" series mod, and push enough power then it's possible to draw too much current through the weak cell causing it to super heat then catastrophically fail. Never saw a case of this specifically. This doesn't much matter for mods using parallel batteries either.

This is also why it's best to marry cells and use them together: so they'll charge/discharge at the same rates.

Mods primary function is to produce vapor, some have additional circuitry to charge batteries thrown in.
Battery chargers primary job is to charge batteries with additional charging protection circuitry.
I’d much rather trust a external charger than secondary circuitry in a mod.

Salvage not worth risk. Take a hammer to it so no one can find it/try to use it. Clean & re-wrap those batteries before you use them.

Nice mod, Lost Vape is excellent. Good vendor and great price for the kit is lower than mod only from China vendor, and lower than stateside mod only, from my quick look around. A bottle of juice with order for 50% off, and they have a 10% off code somewhere.

I like the Ultem and may just have to get one.

I received the Revenger X kit as a Christmas gift to replace my Pico 25. I wanted a dual 18650 mod and this one seemed to fit my requirements perfectly. The first thing I will say about it is that the touch-screen controls are both a blessing and a curse. I only use it in wattage, not interested in TC or any of the other multiple user options. Changing the wattage is fairly easy but having to click the fire button 3 times first gets kind of old. I know this is a safety feature but it can be a pain finding the right area to press in the one or two seconds it gives you before locking the screen again. The touch screen arrows don’t light up and it’s always a guess as to where I need to press to adjust the wattage up or down, especially in dim lighting conditions. The haptic feedback is a nice touch, so you know you’ve actually touched the button! One feature of this mod that I really like is that when you put your attty on it will ask if it’s a “new load”, and if you select yes it will automatically suggest the proper wattage to run it at...nice for someone like me who is still learning about Ohm’s law. The mod is really quick to fire and I get excellent flavor from the NRG tank that came with it. I know you are not interested in getting a new tank but the NRG is definitely one of the best sub-ohm tanks for flavor, IMO. None of the local shops in my area carry Vaporesso coils, though, so I am completely dependent on finding them online. The mod with the NRG on top is a bit top-heavy, and I have knocked it over on tabletops more times than you could imagine. The build quality is excellent, though. I have even dropped it on hard floors a few times and it keeps on working fine. Overall I would highly recommend the Revenger X, just make sure you would be happy with the touchscreen thing and don’t care about having physical buttons to push.

Thanks for that Info. I have herd some good things about that tank and I always get my coils online so no issues there. I didn't know it was a touch screen I can see where that might be a problem. I wonder how easy it scratches. My alien screen would scratch if you looked at it cross eyed.

I like the Cylon better, because it fits a 30mm tank perfectly. The X has a very slight overhang.
Cylon is also as accurate reading resistance as my DNAs. The X sometimes has to be 'encouraged'.
OK cool so far I like the Cylon the best. I figured I would be seeing a lot of mods jumping out at me that I like the looks of but I'm not really. The Drag and Desir X look cool but I don't know how good the would feel in the hand. The Drag looks like it would go good in the pocket though which is where mine would end up a lot.

A nice pocket friendly mod is the Think Vape Exus Ark. Dual 18650 and attractive, very responsive fire button. Have had mine 6 months with zero issues. I like my Cylon (ordered it for the Fireluk, but I like carrying and using the Ark more.

I had something similar happen to me as jworm49. Had a bottom airflow tank piss all over a mod and ruined it. Luckily it was a cheap mod (istick 50W ) but it inspired me to look into top airflow tanks so that it would not happen again.

As for suggestions. Heard nothing but good things on the Cylon. Also seen some good things on Vapecige mods and are very easy on the wallet.

+1 ^ .. That fire button reminded me of Loch Ness which is a steal @ $30+5. The 5 is because it doesn't come with the needed usb cable with the longer than normal micro end. Free shipping at $35 ~
Almost picked p the Loch Ness, not crazy about the finish and was afraid it would peel or get scratched up.

I had an Ark for less than a day. I forget now, but it seems that there was no TCR setting available.
It seemed, on short inspection, to be a nice enough mod.

TC doesn't interest me, never tried it on Ark. Some are having a good tc experience with it, some not so much. It does have TCR tho.

Guess I'd have to go back and see. I don't usually return a mod in under a day without some (to me) fatal flaw.

If I remember correctly you are a tc aficionado and the tc wasn't as precise as you were used to. I remember you discussing this months ago. The others more serious about tc were like you and not quite satisfied. For the more casual tc user the mod is probably acceptable.

That sounds right.
Yeah, if the TC/TCR isn’t right or resistance is off by even .02 then a mod is useless for me.
Been more than a few sadly.

I handled one at a local vape shop recently. I dig the mod. Love that I could potentially get different doors and change it up to keep the mod "new". It is a bit larger but it feels great in hand. I had a revenger (non x) and I hated how slim it was. It was very tippy, but other than that it worked really good. I can only assume the switcher would perform as good.

Based on chips however, I would think the cylon has the edge. Like others say it's like a poor man's g class and it has s great reception from everybody who's tried it!

I love the Drag. It's built like a brick, much better than anything I've seen in it's price range. I've put mine through hell and it still works like the day I got it. It's chip/board is superb too, good enough that it's now being used in other mods by different companies. That says a lot. If you don't mind the Drag's aesthetics and it's form-factor, you won't mind a better mod below $50 (or even below $100, in my opinion). I love mine so much that I bought a second one to keep in reserve.

I've heard the Smoant mods are nice too. However the Cylon's large screen would be a problem for me, it covered in scratches in a few days lol. I'm also not the type that wants a huge screen attracting attention to me when I vape. The Charon would be my pick if I had to choose one of Smoant's mods, plus it's cheaper than the Cylon and looks better/cleaner in my opinion.

I use the Vaporesso Revenger, and I quite dig it. It is "tippy" if you're clumsy with it, but fortunately it's a rock solid build that can take a beating. It's also slim, so it can fit in a lot of places other mods cannot.

That is my dilemma I want something that looks cool but how it performs is more important. The switcher looks cool and may perform well but it seems like the cylon would be a bit better for that. With any of them I worry about how easily the screens will scratch up.

you bring up a good point about the screens this is something I worry about with any mod. Mine would be in my pocket a lot and as long as I can read the screen still I could live with the scratches but it would be nice to avoid them if possible too.

You should look into the Drag. Just check out all the reviews on it and ask to hold one at your local vape shop. You'll see that it's solid, it literally feels like a brick lol.

Or consider the Charon. It's also a very beefy mod, durable mod. It's basically the mod that made Smoant a mainstream company.

I have looked at on in a shop and I liked it. I just took a look at the Charon and it looks very similar. I figure I will end up with a Drag mod at some point seems like a good choice for work and being on the go. For now I think I will go with the Cylon and live with my AL85 at work.
