So, the Alaska State Senate is facing a multibillion dollar deficit for the third year running and all they want to do is debate upping the vaping age up to 19

Our state wants to up the age to 21 for tobacco products. Like that is going to stop a teen from getting smokes or a vape. They never learn. sigh

I could get just about anything you could imagine on the street by the time i was 17 years old back in the early 1990's

I'd be willing to bet that a 17 year old can now find everything that I could then and then some.

You were a late bloomer. I could walk into any station or store and buy anything I wanted at 8. Back then you could buy beer if you said it was for your dad.

I have always believed there is something seriously wrong with the fact that the US says it's ok for a 18 year old to engage in government sanctioned killing but they can't buy a beer. That is fucked up thinking.

No, I meant ANYTHING.
I just didn't want to break the drug rule.:)

I could get cigarettes out of the machine at one of the shitty motels on RTE 40 Baltimore County if it was sunday
I could get them any other day for 30 cents cheaper at the neighborhood bodega.
I started when I was around 14.
I could get beer and green stuff at about age 14

As long as you were old enough to be at the bon fire in the woods with the older kids on Friday or Saturday night you're partying
Plus there was this bum who huffed paint and lived on the closed loading dock at the back of the hardware store.
They wouldn't sell him paint (he only wanted gold spray paint for some reason) because they knew what he was doing with it.
I would walk to the liquor store with him and pay for the case of beer and my buddy went in the hardware store and bought 3 cans of gold spray for $3.15.
We'd switch who bought the spray so we didn't get banned for buying it for him.

$3.15 isn't that much of an upcharge on a case when you are only 14.

By the time I was 17 I could get hard drugs in the city on my own.

Great...Well folks we absolutely screwed you bad and gave a bunch of your money to our political donors and you have squat to show for it,and by the way we want more of your money....BUT hey let's not focus on any of that...rather let's focus on our virtue signalling of how much we care about your kids...so much so we intend to take a relatively harmless nicotine replacment therapy away from your kids and leave them with the alternative of smoking....it costs us nothing we look like "nice" people, but more importantly we don't have to get bogged down in discussions about defecits and potholes.....Oh hey by the way we are working hard in your state capital to institute "Taco Day" as a state holiday celebrating the contributions of the taco to Alaska.....a public discussion will be held on the deficit on wenesday in some month at 2:00 am....the next leap year.

Jesus wept...why do I get the feeling you spared us from sharing the real "bad" parts of that story.....

When kids can steal it from their parents, they will smoke and drink whenever they can. I was legally allowed to buy cigs at 15, and beer at 18. I was smoking and drinking well before then, because my folks had it. Our lawmakers seem to be blind to that fact.

They use crap like this to avoid solving real social issues they are too chickenshit to confront in public and deflect attention form their own major fucks ups and shortcomings

That was why my folks started buying me cigs when I was 15, to stop me stealing theirs or stealing money from their wallets -- morally, stealing is much worse than smoking! And I was gonna smoke, no matter what I had to do to make it happen -- THAT is the cigarette addiction, which they both knew very well.

Incidentally, it is the same reason they keep proposing the so-called bathroom bills. Anything they can do to create a smoke-screen, will come up just to get folks talking about sh!t that don't matter.

Yep. If our lawmakers had been paying more attention to stuff that actually mattered than in what Bill did to Monica, 9/11 might not have happened.

This is silly,

However I do wish less 11-15 year olds were making vape review videos on YouTube.

I wish their parents would do something about it - that is where the real responsibility lies

That's on their parents, for allowing kids that young unrestricted access to the internet. Kinda like letting your kids play on the interstate, or down in the inner city around the peep shows and stripper bars.

Yeah, like THAT'S gonna happen! When parents give 2 and 3 year old kids cell phones with WiFi access, they learn every trick there is to get around whatever parental controls are put on those devices. Then, they can go get influenced by all the stupid shit other kids post.
