asthma/COPD and vaping

hi all, i'm a newbie to vaping for the past couples of weeks because i wanted to quit smoking cigarettes or, at least, cut down. at the same time that i started vaping, i joined a quit smoking forum. my question is actually for one of the members in that forum.

she has severe COPD but quit smoking four years ago. as a result of her health issues she is super duper against smoking to the point that even vaping is suspect and she doesn't support it.

however, i've been singing praises about vaping and what it has done for helping me to quit smoking. her son is also trying to quit but she is worried about him vaping to quit smoking because he has asthma and frequently uses a rescue inhalant. but, because i can't stop extolling the virtues of vaping, she is curious to know if vaping might help her son despite his asthma.

so, i was wondering if anyone here can give their two cents about vaping and asthma or COPD. a lot of the people on that forum are suspicious of vaping, so much so that no one has responded or asked me about my vaping and quitting cigarettes. the way i see it, the more positive information i can share with them the better this world will be. and, hopefully, i can turn them all into vapers!!

@AndriaD is someone I consider an expert at asthma and vaping

But there are numerous vapers on this forum with asthma who have been vaping for years and have experience to share

The quit-smoking industry quickly created an anti-vaping industry to preserve their access to money from the government and big Pharma, big tobacco; All of these entities reap enormous financial gains from smokers

I have a coworker I make juice for. He used to hit his inhaler like crazy when he smoked.

He's been vaping for a few months now and says he hasn't touched his inhaler since.

and they have made zombies of a lot of smokers too! in the other forum, people are totally of the mindset that quitting smoking has to be a cross-bearing struggle. if you are not suffering and repenting for your sins then you are not quitting. and vaping is the devil that will never let you quit! people are funny things.

50 yr smoker, I got several lung infections a year and couldn't walk across the street with out gasping for breath. Shortly after I started vaping I could breath much better and stopped getting lung infections.
Three years in I still sometimes get congested from vaping but I can cough it out. I still have asthma flair ups but much less and rarely need my inhaler. Check this out...https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...armful-than-tobacco-estimates-landmark-review

Higher PG vs higher VG seems to work best for asthma and COPD sufferers from my observations.
I do not have either but a 40 yr ex smoker and anything over 60% VG make me start hacking up VG and I get a heavy lung feeling.

As with Angrygod within a couple months after starting vaping and quitting smoking I noticed a vast improvement in lung function. I switched in January and by February I noticed I could shovel 4 times as much snow without having to take a gasping breather.

Disclaimer: I have never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express nor played a doctor on TV.

Yep, vaping does not affect my asthma like smoking does. Higher PG is better for me than high VG. Almost 5 years without smoking.
I am careful about what I vape - only NET for me. I think the wide range of synthetic flavors have some risk so I avoid them.

I avoid many of the flavorings because of some synthetic ingredient/s in them cause me grief.
Inflamed mouth, throat and sore lungs if I vape over a few mls of some of them.
And total loss of taste as well. Takes a day or two to go away.
Why I am 100% DIY as many/most commercial ejuice causes me problems.
Without DIY I would have given up on vaping.

definitely NET for me, as well. i don't have any lung health issues but i started out with NET, being a noob going into vaping from smoking and knowing that it needed to be as close to smoking as possible. i got mine from Black Note. then i tried a menthol flavored one from my local vape shop, Hollywood ejuice, i think it was, and it felt so nasty. i ended up looking like a lizard i was flicking my tongue out so much. never again, it's NET all the way for me now

I am vaping for more than 5 years, i havent touched a cigarette since that time. I have an asthma and i have reduced the inhaler hits by half or even more. I havent noticed any negative effect from vaping which relates to my asthma.
However i cant confirm that the VG has negative effect either, I vape 60VG/40PG atm, but i used to vape 90% VG. I started MTL vaping (there were not many options at the time), gradually i switched to Tight Lung Inhales, as the hardware i used drove to that direction, i havent noticed any problems with both vape styles.

I have vaped 10ml total of non dyi ejuices. i vape only DYI and i try to stick to respectable local suppliers, i vape around 15 ml/day, 6 mg/ml nicotine :)

I have vaped only RBA/RTAs, i have never tried RDAs, even though the clouds look so appealing, i can not accept the concept of constant dripping, so i can not tell you if there could be any problems using that devices, but i strongly dont believe that there could be any.

Synthetic or artificial flavors are chemically identical to "natural" flavors. Right down to the molecule. Various flavors do have various risks involved, usually very minor though. Menthol is one that comes to mind, but I can't remember what the issue was. It was minor though, for the amount you would actually use in vape juice.

Usually, you can get away with dripping once per 10 or so pulls. Depending on your coil and power used. Cloud builds require you to drip every 1 or 2 pulls, that thats where the clouds come from . Usually you don't vape all day on a cloud build..

I love NETs but they are coil killers..black note is not to bad on coils for a NET..but I'd recommend DIY mixing..it really opens up a whole new world of possibilities....I started not to save money, but because all the juices I bought other than NETs to be pretty bad.

yes, i've been thinking of DIY in the near future. for now, since i'm a newbie, i'm playing around with different NET flavors, pg/vg ratios, vaping devices, etc. i also will venture into building my own coils but, again, for now i'm playing around with different proprietary coils. mostly, i'm trying to find the ohms that i like. so far, my favorite vaping experience is 6mg Naked Euro Gold (35%pg/65%vg) using the 0.4 baby beast coil at 20 watts. unfortunately, i don't like the heft of the SMOK Alien that i'm using, so i switch it up with my eleaf istick basic, which i love to death but isn't as powerful as the SMOK. eleaf is coming out with an istick melo with melo 4 which seems like a more powerful istick basic so i might try that one but that big ole tank on top bugs me.

do you have a favorite DIY recipe?

by TL inhales, do you mean that you inhale straight into your lungs but using a MTL technique? that's the best way i can describe it. i have been finding that my MTL techinque is slowly turning into DTL, but it's not exactly DTL, it's kind of in between, so i'm wondering if that's what you mean by Tight Lung inhales. i'm really liking it that way.
at some point, maybe when i finish with my NET samples, i will look into DIY but i'll have to do some research for respectable online suppliers. i know you depend on local suppliers but do you have any online suppliers that you would recommend?

When it comes to ejuice, i only trust our local supliers, when it comes to hardware i use Fasttech and Gearbest.
If you find it hard to trust your online suppliers of liquids i can send you as much as you like and i am allowed to, but have in mind that i live in Bulgaria :)

I don't know about COPD, but I have asthma. I and I chain vape. It has never triggered an attack. Just my two cents.
