Tips on mixing DIY e-Liquid with Nicotine Salts?

Anyone DIYing with Nicotine Salts? I'm looking for some guidance.

I'm mixing with 50mg nic using Signature from Nude Nicotine. I tried a using few of my old recipes (that are originally formulated for 0 to 12mg), but the 50mg salt nicotine is drowning the flavor's taste; all I can taste is the nicotine.

Does anyone have any tips on mixing with Nicotine Salts?
e.g. My friend told me that when using Nic Salt, flavor % should generally be higher than conventional 0-12mg recipes. Are there any flavors that work esp. well with Nic Salt (and vice versa)?

I have not used nic salts, but from what I can gather, it works similar to mixing with regular nicotine, it's just smoother. I know @Letitia9 uses salts, so maybe they can shine more light on the subject.

With nic salts you use the same percentage as you would regular nic. I use 9mg for tank and 3mg for rda. I use salts for smooth th. I love them.

I saw Steve's post, good to see other NN Signature DIY'er's here. I agree with Letitia9 in that you can use the same nic strength in salts as you do in regular nic, as far as nicotine levels go, and that the big difference is that nic salts is far smoother for the throat hit. The nic strength to use for salts really depends on how you use it, if you're using it in a tank like you would regular nic, and vaping the same amount of juice a day, then go with the same nic strength you usually use. If you are trying to get a faster "quick" hit, like with a cigarette when you smoked, I would use a Pod mod or a smaller tank at low power and higher nic, say 32 to 45 in a pod mod. I do both, I use 32mg nic salts with a peppermint diy (excellent with NN Sig) in a pod mod or a small 1.8 ml ego one with CLR coil for those stealth vaping quick hits. In my tanks at 11.5 to 15W, I'm using 24 mg nic salts just to cut down on juice consumption, I vape about 2 1/2 ml a day. I may drop to 18 mg in my bigger tanks soon and see how that goes.

NN Signature has a smell and some taste imparted by what I'm pretty sure is benzoic acid, and it can affect juice taste in my experience. Blends well with peppermint, and acceptably with my beloved NETs (slight impact to taste is offset by the smoothness for me).

50mg is pretty high unless you're just taking a few puffs off of a low power device. I'm a high nic guy, but even 45mg nic salts was a bit much for me :D

I get my salts from Liquid Nicotine Wholesale and get no nic flavor. That being said, I do prefer strong flavors.

Sure will @freedogg, sorry for the late replay, busy week with the Thanksgiving Holiday, hope you had a good weekend!
TFA= The Flavor Apprentice
FA = FlavourArt

Ice Peppermint
7% Peppermint (TFA) (note, you may want to start at 5% and increase to taste).
2% Spearmint (FA) (makes it sweeter, appears to be a natural flavor, slightly cloudy)
2 drops per 10 ml - Polar Blast (FA) - this gives a cool blast, doesn't take much!
2 drops per 10 ml - Smooth (TFA) - helps blend and mellow things out
Nicotine base, PG and VG ratio as desired.

Note that I vape high PG (80PG/20VG) and use nicotine salts which drops the pH and makes it really smooth for a high PG mix. I also add 7 drops of 0.9% Normal Saline and 7 drops of purified water per 30 ml. However none of this is necessary for the recipe, it's just what I prefer for stealth vaping in a pod mod or low powered device. TFA Peppermint is clear, (pretty sure its artificial), but slightly bitter, so the spearmint takes that away. FA Peppermint is cloudy, likely natural peppermint oils, but I just didn't like the taste of it as well as the TFA. I might try it again though, changing the percentage to see if that helps.

Thanx for your reply, David! Great Holiday weekend...finally getting over the "turkey coma". lol

I just started mixing with nic salts for use in pod mods at high (25-50mg) nic. There isn't much info on salt mixing , so I've been experimenting a bit. I mixed a Kringle's Curse clone that isn't too bad but yours sounds better! I placed an order from Bull City last night and looks like I'll be making another tonight. lol

Once again, thanx David

@David Wolf Thanks man. I'll try out that peppermint recipe. Have you done any successful mixes with fruits? Also

Seriously, no taste? Interesting.. Anyone else can validate this before I put in an order? I've heard similar things about Nic River salt

I have samples from NN coming in and I ordered some from NicRiver today. I called NR and was told in no uncertian terms its the exact same as mixing with freebase (FB)... minus the throat hit so you can mix higher if you decide. I do plan on mixing up just some VG/PG w/ Nic salts and FB and sharing some of my own experience (orders should be in next week)

My eperience with NN Smooth salts was that it was fine at first, a light amber color, but it darkened rather quickly and to me after a month or so it gave my NET diy juice an off taste. The Signature still is smooth to me, and doesn't darken nearly as fast. It does have a slight effect on taste (benzoic acid), but cant taste it in mint flavors, and not unpleasant in NET juices.

So far I've tried NicRiver, Liquid Nicotine Wholesalers, and Nude Nicotine (Smooth and Signature) nicotine salts. LNW and NicRiver both had a slightly "smoked" something (not smoke, but "smoked something lol) taste to me, and LNW nic salts I would have a little cough a bit after a few draws on occasion. LNW and NicRiver are so similar, it makes me wonder if they are the same, or at least the same recipe.
Of the three I by far prefer NN Signature nic salts though it has a slight smell and taste from the Benzoic acid used in it (along with other ingredients I don't know). I will be interested to know your opinion, since we don't all have the same tastes now do we haha :)

I've been using LNW for a couple of months and still clear and pretty much tasteless. I do use 10-20% flavoring tho.

Does anyone have any tips on how to test your salt flavors before sacrificing a disposable pod?

Can't exactly use a rda for 50mg salt recipes.

I don't taste salt in any mixes using nic salts.
Same here I dont get a salt or saline type taste at least not from the salt from Nude Nicotine (even with just PG/VG). But I have only mixed up to 9 I plan on mixing up some higher levels in the next few days for an icare2 I got.

I mostly just use my RDA to test items. But I did pick up an icare2 yesterday which I will be testing some high salt mg levels. It cost me 20 bucks local and they are online even cheaper.

What flavor % are any of you getting good results with? I was trying to mix for juul pods at 25%, but not getting much flavor. So I am moving on to Bo type devices. The next step up. Are they all the same in terms of flavor %? I bought 500ml of VG nic salts. I am getting empty pods that I will be testing nic free at first to try and get some idea of how much flavoring this needs. Right now I am vaping 4mg nic salt in my RDA. Hits the spot for those cravings "a real cigarette at work" days. Thanks and Happy Holidays!!

I mix flavors in a wide range from 5 - 20 average is a 10-15 range though... as for the pod type mods that icare is my first one, so I have not had much time to test with as I just got it...

Was doing some quick searching... naked line has always been light on flavor but still very flavorful.. they have a salt line which honestly I did not even know until just now... maybe some clone type recipes for something might work for ya. For what little I have vaped on that icare I dont see getting the flavor I am custom too on rda's... but I really got it more for convenience and a quick nic dosage.. here are a few I am seeing (for some ideas)...

http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/836225/JUUL+Capone+Clone

and @FrostyMtl started this thread a while back maybe they have some ideas or that thread may help some:

@SirErick One of the mints I have and like a lot is peppermint... I have family coming over and even though its in my house I try not to chain vape on my rda's like I do when no one is over.. I just mixed this up for the icare. I know the peppermint is a strong flavor so it stands out on its own a lot at lower precents.

I went with a 50/50, used 20mg NicSalts (2.5% Peppermint TFA) and its working well for me. I have not vaped this high of nic since years ago on those disposable pen cartridges, but for a quick puff here and there its working nice..

I already tweaked it some more and finding it funny that 25mg on this icare is like 4mg on my RDA's. I bumped up the peppermint 3% and added some bittersweet chocolate 2% - both TFA.

Completely new to DIY juice. Having a difficult time trying to find a store to make 24 MG juice for hubby. On LNW looking at the NicSalts as the one place we got to make a 24 MG has a hard throat hit. Can someone please point me in the right direction on how much pg/vg to use all or is 70/30 from the stores I know taste is different but how do I know where to start? Also nic salt do I buy 50/50 so many options. He was smoking 3 packs a day down to 1/2 a pack ish. Wanting to make the right choices so he will stop completely. I went from 1 to 1.5 backs to nothing I smoke 12 mg... TIA just trying to learn before I purchase.

The saltnic I have been using is fron NicRiver, I like 100% PG. I have mixed it up to 25mg for pod devices and not noticed a hard throat hit at all. As for the final mix of your juice it could depend on personal liking and the devices. I would suggesting mixing up just PG/VG and saltnic at different ratios to see what you like before adding any flavor. Others may have more suggestions. But if you are wanting to take the nic levels high saltnic is the way to go if you want reduced throat hit.

I get my nic salts from LNW, 30% off right now(discount shows in cart). I use 100mg pg base and mix the same as I would freebase nic. They are very smooth. If your mixing 24mg freebase start there with salts and work your way up.

I would listen to this guy, he figured out the same thing about the benzoic acid as I did.

Hello everyone I’m new To the nic salt mixing. I was wondering if you could just answer a couple questions for me?. 1.so salt nic and regular nicotine mix the same way?
2.is there anything in a recipe you have to change to allow the salt nic to taste better 3. Where is the best place in Canada to order salt nic from?

I mix Nic salts the same way as regular Nic however for low power tanks or pod mods I use a higher Nic strength and vape less juice that way. I get the same Nic fix at the same strength it’s just that Nic salts is far smoother.

So for example if I’m making a 30ml of ejuice and I wanted 36mg nic salt I would put about 10.8ml into the bottle ? Doesn’t that seem to high cause that’s over 1/3 of the bottle is that safe. (I used a ejuice calculator to figure out what 36nic would be btw) If I’m wrong please correct me.

Yes, you have it right, using an ejuice calculator is wise. But one important thing to remember is when vaping a high nicotine juice, even a nic salts base one, you really don't want to do that in a high power device, its gest vaped on a pod mod or lower power tank setup. For 36 mg nic salts, I wouldn't personally want to vape it over 12 or so watts, and I actually vape 32 mg nic salts diy juice at 9W, 30 AWG Nichrome 80, 2.5 mm x 6 wraps. I typically vape 24 mg nic salts diy juice on 28 AWG SS, 6 wraps at 12 Watts.

I personally would not mix nicotine levels higher than 24mg/ml whether using nicotine salts or the usual free base nicotine. Salts is ideal for mixing at higher nic levels for stealth vaping in an Icare, Suorin Air or similar devices without getting harsh throat hits. I don't want clouds for stealth so I also use a much higher PG mix. That all said, you mix nicotine salts using the same percentages you would use with any other nicotine base. I typically mix at 3 mg/ml for use in an Aromamizer at 100 watts but again, for stealth vaping I want a higher nicotine percentage while typically vaping at much lower wattage. Using Nicotine salts works better for this in my opinion.

There quite a few e juice calculators available. Steam Engine, ejuice me up, eliquids recipes. Just type e juice diy calculator into Google and choose the one that suits your needs. I like using the one on e liquid recipes.com.

Spent some time mixing salt liquids. I def prefer NicRiver's smooth salt nic over Nude Nicotine. IMO, NN gives much more of a noticable taste than NicRiver. It's all subjective though.

I've been using LNW for a couple of months and still clear and pretty much tasteless. I do use 10-20% flavoring tho.

I test nic salts for my lab.. when I run out tho, it is LNW too..
I use mainly FLV flavors, most of my recipes atm are up on elr, and I never raise the amounts of flavoring for nic.
Flavorah is just good like that :confetti: :p

Since that post my flavor % are getting lower, I was surprised at how fast I got used to diy juice with little to no sweetener. Have also started ordering 250mg to save freezer space. Still no noticeable taste from the salts.

I just found out this is legal in the US. Now I wish I hadn't stored 24 8-ounce bottle of only 100mg freebase. I even bought 6 1-gallon amber glass jugs with phenolic polycone caps to store 100mg in outside of the freezer/fridge for if a threat starts coming to pass. (Always in 100% VG due to the superb longevity of VG.) <sigh> If only I had known about 250 before all this. :( (I blame ECF's ridiculous puritanical rules. :headbang: )

I did get 500ml of 250mg nic salts from Nic River, but have yet to mix anything wiith it yet.
I'm hoping to get that bigger morning nic buzz. :)

Be sure to adjust the mg in your juice calculator, I use it the same as 100mg, just use less. Saves on freezer space considerably, the main reason I started ordering it.
