Hi Vaping Underground members, In this review i take a look at the Genie PD270 from Ijoy. The Ijoy Genie PD270 was kindly supplied for the purpose of this review by Ema from Sourcemore.

Aesthetics and Ergonomics
After opening the packaging i had full strength medication for my shinyitus as i had been sent the rainbow version, which has the same metallic finish as the rainbow Ijoy Capo and Vaporesso Revenger. The overall finish is stunning but of course a fingerprint magnet (but a price worth paying because boy, it looks gorgeous). The battery door has a nice carbon fibre sticker, you also receive a different sticker (in my case snakeskin effect) that you can swap it for if you wish. Staying with the battery door it has an elongated oval frosted panel which houses 2 lights aligned vertically (which acts as a flashlight). Above the flashlight is a round curved inward button for activating the light which i will go through later. Finally the battery door is secured by strong magnets and fits nice and tight, (of course there are also contacts between the device and door to get power to the flashlight). The front of the device has your screen sitting in the centre and a very large rectangular fire button above this. Below the screen is your left, right which is a single rocker style horizontal button, finally below this sits the micro USB port. Venting for the chip is done by the sides of the device having a vertical swirl cut out with quite fine mesh which looks very nice and a bit different (this also has RGB's and the mesh gives the lights a classier look). The base of the device has the Genie PD270 logo and safety stamps laser etched on, but nothing in the way of battery venting. Finally the spring loaded 510 sits on top of the device and has a juice channel to protect it if your tank leaks. There are no rattles from the device and it looks and feels durable. The device is slightly larger than an average duel battery mod due to using 20700 batteries but is still quite ergonomically friendly and the fire button is very nice.

Using the Device
There is everything you would want from a device on the genie and all can be set or chosen easily with the user friendly interface. The device is the standard 5 clicks on 5 clicks off and once on 3 clicks brings up the different options screen. This screen includes power mode, temp control, setting your lights etc. On this screen use the right button to scroll through the options then the fire button to choose the one you want. Once one of the options has been chosen a new screen comes up to alter your settings, so for example if you select temp control the screen changes to a screen where you select your wire type or TCR setting, again select what you want and another screen comes up where you can set your temperature and wattage. The whole menu works like this and actually trying to go through it more would probably make what is very simple sound complicated but it is an easy interface to use. As well as preheats you can also set your own and all the usual stuff, however i can't find anyway of locking the device so your only option is turning the device off (unless someone reading this has found out a way of doing it, if so a comment would be much appreciated). Some people just don't like lights on mods and that's fair enough, but if you don't like them the way they are done on the Genie you will never be won over. The shades of colour are very nice and not too in your face and the mesh makes them even more subtle. In the menu system you can choose how to implement the lights including customising them using colour codes, of course you do have the option of not using them. The lights won't go in my con's for people who don't like them for a simple reason they can be switched off so there's no issue.
The Flashlight
Some people will think a vaping device should just be for vaping and won't like the fact that the Genie has a flashlight and that's fair enough. Others will just think useless gimmick, but they couldn't be more wrong, i don't know how many Lumens this is but it's powerful. The best way to describe the brightness is to say it has 2 lights lined up vertically and on the first setting each one gives off the same brightness as a good phone light so twice as powerful. After this you have 2 more settings and the brightness increases with each one so it acts as a powerful, very useful light so therefore no gimmick. To turn the flashlight on you need to click the button 3 times. While the flashlight is on pressing the button again makes it brighter and pressing one more time brighter still. To turn the light off it's 3 clicks or hold the button down. I have heard that people say they keep turning it on by accident mistaking it for the fire button, i can't understand this at all as i didn't turn it on unintentionally even once. I think i didn't turn it on by accident because the fire button is a big rectangular one on front of the device, that you press, vape and then let go and the flashlight button is a small, round, curved inward button on the rear of the device that you have to press 3 times in quick succession to turn the flashlight on, that must be the reason.
Performance
The Genie is a very good device and i had no issues with it, i am a bit concerned about the lack of battery venting even if 20700 batteries run cooler, as with an adaptor 18650 batteries can also be used. However i didn't notice the device getting hot at all but i was using the supplied 20700 batteries. I listed you get a 18650 adaptor with the device even though i didn't, that is because everywhere i see the contents listed it say's you do so i assume there should of been one but was accidentally not packed in the box i received. The device certainly seemed to be doing the wattage accurately but i have no way of knowing how close to the 234 claimed wattage the device will achieve. The battery life with the 20700 batteries was very good and lasted me just about all day. The device will fit up to 28mm tanks without overhang and even a 30mm will only give slight overhang on the front of the device so won't look that bad. The device is firmware up-gradable. The only other thing to mention is the 510 has a raised ring around it which is fractionally higher than the main surface to stop you scratching the top of the device. This does mean when you hold it up to the light you can see a slight gap which didn't bother me but would bug some people.
