Modify drill to use foot pedal?

Thought about this before, would be easier with an AC drill but
battery pack drill could be done as well, maybe a sewing machine switch or just make one out of an extension cord and a large heavy duty normally open switch.

It seems weird to me that nobody has done this, as far as I've heard.
Maybe someone with more electronics knowledge will have more of an insight,
They already make drills with foot pedals, they're primarily made for Jewelers and Dentists.

Probably wouldn't want that switch , youbshould want to change speed by pressing harder . That one is on or off , if you have a drill with a speed selector knob it would probably work ok but you could get a speed control switch from a sewing machine and wire it into switch of the drill for speed up and slow down capability

IMO stick with Jewelers/Dentist drills if you want a drill with foot control for variable speed they're about the best that you can get.

For the record, in a previous life is was a Jewelers Apprentice ;)

sewing machine controllers are already variable..... You would wire into the drill AFTER the drils switch... not through it. BUT if the drills swict LOCKS you cloud just get a sewing machine pedal and plug the drill into it. No mods should be required beyond changing the plug/recepticle on the pedal.

Thanks for all the responses guys! A jewellers/dental drill... That doesn't sound moderately priced xD thanks for the pedal link :) I might look into making an rc motor + controls + pedal :)
