Big Tobacco is just gonna love this!

I have visions of RJR stockholders dumping stocks that have been in the family for years and years.
Indeed, but what concerns me is that once they regulate nicotine content in ciggies
their next step is to declare it a controlled substance and make it illegal to purchase w/o a script.

I have 5 liters in the little freezer..maybe I need one more.

BTW, there's a webcast of today's meeting somewhere

Yup, according to the FDA, cigs and vape are the same. A tobacco product.

I think I'll order a litter of pure(1000mg/ml) and be done with it.

Oh great another gathering of anti-tobacco health Nazi’s who haven’t a clue deciding what smokers and vapers can do. When I smoked i switched to mild cigarettes and ended up smoking more... more tar to clog up your lungs, more cost. Lowering Nic levels won’t stop a smoker they will smoke more. Vaping has allowed more people to stop smoking than any other method, wake up health nazi’s!

Nicotine IS NOT TOBACCO!!!!!

Neither is a drip tip! But if you read the Deeming that's precisely what they say it is.

Just like people that switch to diet soda drink more of it looking for the sugar buzz
and folks who switch to decaf drink more coffee.
David you know none of this has anything to do with the health nazis giving a damn.
It is and always will be about MONEY.

It's ridiculous. I said in another post it's like saying trans fat IS french fries, or that coffee or Coca Cola ARE caffeine.

Nicotine IS NOT TOBACCO!!!!!

And it's not the nicotine in cigarettes that makes them addictive, or at least, not the nicotine alone -- I smoked ultra-lights for over 20 yrs, which contained very little nicotine at all... yet I was so horribly addicted that I required WTA to eliminate cravings. If they could find a way to eliminate MAOIs from tobacco, they might be on to something... eliminating or reducing the nicotine won't have any effect at all, or possibly even a negative effect. Of course, maybe they intend that negative effect -- cigarette revenues are declining, so find a way to make people smoke MORE cigarettes, to prop up the Death Industry.

What a bunch of idiots. I know of a real world example that perfectly illustrates and predicts the outcome of this.

When I was 18 I lived in Ohio. The laws regarding alcohol were as follows. If you were 18, and born before Aug 1, 1982, so could only purchase wine and 3.2% (alcohol content) beer. If you were 18 as of Aug 1, you could purchase liquor, wine, and "full strength" beer, which is approx 6-7.5% alcohol depending on the brand. The kids that had to buy the 3.2% beer simply bought and drank twice as much (if they couldn't find anyone to buy them the "real" beer).

I guess no one at the FDA understands that if they cut the nicotine in cigarettes by half, that smokers will simply smoke 2 cigarettes per break instead of one. If they cut it by 2/3, then smokers will smoke 3 per break. So in effect, they are planning on forcing smokers to inhale MORE particulates that they otherwise would have. This will actually cause smokers more harm than they are inflicting on themselves now.

IMO, it would be better if they required the nicotine level in a cigarette to be increased so much that it would be impossible to finish smoking even one full cigarette without getting sick to your stomach. This would help smokers inhale less particulates than they did before.

If you want something done right, keep the flipping government out of it. :finger:

My point is that the Death Merchants actually WANT people to smoke more cigarettes, since so many fewer people are smoking them... thanks to vaping. :D

15% (and declining) of the nation smokes. 5% (and counting fast) are vapers. I dream of the day when they have too few customers and revenue to influence politics. Hell, the FDA is supposed to protect us and they seem more concerned about protecting Big Tobacco.

It's Big Pharma that they are protecting, Big Tobacco is just the tool that keeps the revenue flooding into Big Pharma.

This exactly. Everyone hates Big Tobacco... however they DON'T hate the money that BT generates, from taxes, and also from the "approved" (and totally ineffective) NRT peddled by BP, and don't forget the revenues from cancer drugs, asthma/COPD drugs, all sorts of anti-inflammatory drugs, and then all those SSRI and similar drugs.

The FDA doesn't give a shiny shit about protecting anyone or anything except their own money, and Big Pharma's money... which is where a lot of FDA's money comes from -- and don't forget all those "charitable" orgs -- which really aren't charitable at all, and really don't want ANYONE to quit smoking -- all those leeches might have to get real jobs, if people actually quit smoking!

I don't.

Hating BT is misguided. Hating big Pharma is misguided.

I hate the goobermint.

It's the goobermint agencies that make law. Big tobacco can make no law, regulation or tax. Neither can big pharma. Only big government can do that.

I Don't hate BT for a corrupt government agency. I hate the agency. The FDA. Where the problem lies. ;)

I agree about BT, all they're trying to do, all they've EVER tried to do, is provide a product that people want, and make a profit doing it. Although I will say that I find their addition of topical anesthetics and bronchodilators to cigarette tobacco to be the essence of contemptible, allowing people to continue smoking for years and decades thinking they were just fine, till finally they succumb to lung cancer because of those years and decades -- I never needed Advair till I quit smoking, just my rescue inhaler; by the time i'd been smoke-free for 3 months, I couldn't get by at all without also huffing Advair twice a day.

And I agree about the gov't too... but BP? They are THE WORST. They're already worth trillions and trillions, selling products that hurt as much as they help, and BP doesn't care if they hurt, or even if they help at all, as long as BP gets to keep making a profit -- if their drugs actually help people, that's just a side effect to BP, all they really care about is the money.

And now they want to destroy the ONLY actually effective means of quitting a deadly habit, just so they can continue selling their TOTALLY USELESS "approved" NRT, along with all the drugs for asthma, COPD, cancer, and every other drug for some problem caused by smoking. That's pure evil, positively demonic and definitely criminal.

And then yes, there's all the orgs that BP's evil trillion$ have suborned, including that useless and evil FDA, along with all those "charitable" orgs that are nothing but BP's paid mouthpieces.

Between the corrupt gov't and the money BP has paid them to get the laws they want, it's a fucking miracle there's anyone left alive in America at all.

Meh. Nobody has to buy the shit their selling, at least they wouldn't if the FDA would get out of the way. Selling shit to people that are dumb enough to buy it is a very old concept. And so is not buying it.

It's still the FDA that's the problem. Carpetbaggers will always exist. They've been around much longer than the FDA.
