Merlin mini - leaks a bit after filling

I have a dual coil build in there - when I fill the tank it leaks a bit through the airflow vents and then it stops once I start vaping. It’s reading 0.19 and I’m vaping between 50 to 55. Is this a wicking ssue? It doesn’t matter if the air vent is wide open or closed when I fill it.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Definitely wicking. Try using more cotton or larger diameter coils. I use 3mm in mine.

Thank you! So when you wick yours, the cotton is relatively tight through the coils but the ends should just tick into the sides? Is that right? I think my coils are 3 mm. They’re pre made and this is my first gonat the dual coil.

Yup try more cotton. If that doesn’t work, make the tails a tad longer so that they fold over just a little bit. The Merlin wicks really well so a little more cotton won’t hurt.

If you ask me you've got it wicked perfect or very near. If the leaking stops after the tank is sealed then you know your getting max flow. I'm usually happy when it works like that. If you need max flow depends on your coils and vaping habits. Watch out for flavor loss when adding more wick.

Closing the air flow may help a little but getting the top back on the tank quickly is most important.

I’m going to try that too - thanks for the tip

I think it's the last turn of the top cap that pushes juice into the deck. When mine is wicked perfectly to not run dry chain vaping a 75 vg juice, the coil will be super wet and I have to fire while blowing a couple times to clear it out. Once in a blue moon it will push enough juice to seep a little out the airflow.

I haven't bothered to try because it's usually just wet but next fill try flip it upside down and let the juice clear the juice ports, then tighten the last turn & a half of the top cap.

I have a couple of the full size Merlins and I think they are designed the same. I had what you are describing happen all the time. As long as your Merlin wicks fine for the rest of the tank, IMO you've got the wicking correct.

I now fill the tank, screw on the top cap until the O-ring just catches, turn it upside down and finish screwing it closed. I close the flow control when I do my refill and I leave the tank upside down until I open the flow control. Works well for me.
