I think you meant 24mm. I got both the 30mm and the 24mm in black too... both are awesome.
No...thats the 30mm, I want the 24mm but it wasnt released when I got the 30mm

How do you like that ELFY? It looks promising, and I think I might get one.

The ELFY is exactly like the Merlin Mini...but no velocity deck or MTL screws....Its decent for a tighter lung draw but...I would buy the Merlin if I had to choose

Made a coil that's well too fat to fit in any of my RDA's :/ 24 x .4x.1 (alternating ni80+FeCrAl) /. 16 ss304 staged with .5 Kanthal
Edit. The leftover ribbon can be kept hold of for future binding. Properly bound ribbon wire looks sick though.

Time to grab the Deathwish Modz 24mm Deathtrap RDA. Trust me, it will be just perfect for this coil. :)

I have wanted to buy the deathtrap 24mm but I wasn't overly keen on the clamp system on the goon so it's put me off going for it tbh. Still like my screw based RDA's such as the mad dog, rabies and wondervape style where all screws are top down but have also delved into the postless style with the pulse 24, probably gonna end up getting the pyro RDTA soon though as that looks like a decent performer. As for that coil I might have to give the deathtrap a try and see if it's any better than the goon. Pennies are tight atm though so that'll have wait (-_-) got a load of wire recently so I just span up a 12 core FeCrAl .3x.1 for now, just have to pay more attention to what I'm sticking the wire into in future so I don't end up with unusable coils

The clamps on the 24mm Deathtrap are a LOT thicker than the original Goon. In addition, a spare clamp is included in the package vs not included with the original Goon nor included with the Goon 1.5, and, flavor wise, with just a single coil the 24mm Deathtrap mops the floor with both the original 24mm Goon and the Goon 1.5 all day long and twice on Sunday, AND, I'm comparing the flavor by using the stock drip tip on the Deathtrap vs using an expensive Half Moon Mods acrylic drip tip for an upgrade on both Goons. :giggle:

Well put. Thank you for that additional information, I did actually bend one of the clamp on the goon just trying to stop my resistance from fluctuating. An extra one sounds like a bonus. Might just have to jump on that them, I do like a nice single coil setup myself. Cheera

I've got a factory wound TFV8 RBA at .29ohm. It's working well.

I've got an Ammit RTA coming in, any suggestions on some good coil setups for it? Want to get away with a lower wattage build.

UPDATE: Just wrapped my very first set of coils, ever. 24g kanthal, 9 wraps not exactly sure on the diameter, 2.5ish? Just need to find batteries for my multi-meter than I can check the ohms. Shooting for a .4ish? I don't think they turned out THAT bad. Didn't waste and inch of wire either. I have a feeling I will be throwing these out though. Oh well, live and learn.

Currently I am vaping on a triple parallel 24 gauge and it's pretty dang good. I think it's 6 wrap. Try running that wire in 2 wire parallel should be pretty good.

Cracking work everyone just had a chance to go back and read everyone’s updates ...thanks for the coil porn :)

Haven’t been able to build properly in ages :(( I’m missing it

Damn that's some serious commitment, looks beautiful though. Real noobie question here, but are wraps like that more for the art of it? Or is there significant improvement of vaping quality?

There are arguments on both sides and all I can deduce is that it's entirely subjective. I'm not quite up to this level yet but even a nice staggered fused Clapton does wonders for flavour in my opinion. Best way to find out is try a set ;)

Nah man, these are just photo queens like mohawk/enigmas. The binary corrugated probably vapes well though.

What I have read is the beyond fused Claptons and aliens there isn't much of an improvement and that a lot are only coil porn and not for function.

Edit to add that there is a work:function ratio. That coil might vape as good or a little better than a fused Clapton but the work to make it out weighs the function if that makes sense.

Totally understandable. I get like that with my guitar builds. Parts that look cooler and cost 2x as much, but are a mere hair better in the real world, I still go for. I guess it's its the same addiction.

I agree completely, although there are a couple of exceptions - one being the staple coil. You can get an incredibly satisfying vape from a well made, thought out staple coil. A simple 10 ply 0.3x.01 ribbon staple coil can bring out certain aspects of your juice that you've never tasted before, while not going into super subohm levels..

I like to think of coils as the "speakers" of the setup. The juice is the music, the mod is the stereo/amp, the attie is the speaker enclosure. All of these combined make up the system. But no matter how good (or bad) your music is, different speakers will affect the sound. The same with coils. Some are for show, while others will enhance the "music" of your juice in ways that you may not have though possible until you've actually tried them.

+1 on the staples

I kidd.. I kidd.. but some pictures would give me a better idea. I'm googling staple coils and coming up with a few different looks.

They are ribbon cores wrapped with thinner gauge wire end up looking a bit like your pictures above hence the name

You can advance on the stock nature of this by putting a single frame (round wire or something) or two frames on them either side...stagger the wrapping etc ...after that though you are heading toward coil porn only territory

42G all SS staggerton (6x .3 SS with 42G SS staggered core, 28G SS frames with 42G SS fuse)

I was going to include staple coils in with the fused but I didn't know much about them and in my eyes they are similar to fused in the aspect of you have cores fused by the outer wrap. Lol

Alright.. I'm a little intrigued. Looks like I'm gonna be buying some wire. All I have right now is 24g Kanthal, and some 26/32g kanthal. My options sound limited right now. This looks really challenging and lots of fun.

You could get started straight away by doing a parallel build with the 2 wires you have available or by twisting them together and doing a coil out of that

Nothing special, surely doesn't belong amongst these other beauties. But here it is anyway. A basic 24g spaced build. First time doing a spaced coil but it felt right seeing as I have all that open real estate. Ohms seem high but it lights up in a heartbeat during a dry fire. We'll see how it vapes on my mech as soon as I juice it up.

You forgot to add in room acoustic treatments so... no wonder you're incapable of tasting that staple staggered fused claptons are the best. ;)
