I am in between deciding. Found great prices on both an akuma clone and a chi you clone. I know in would be better off authentic but I can't afford all of that right now. Which would you suggest and why?

The Chi You is the original mech. I had two clones and they were both superb and customizable. As for something lighter and cleaner in profile...and arguable less voltage drop...Akuma. That being said.....for approximately the same money....you would be much happier with something along the Stingray or Stingray X.

I'm in love with both. The chi you mostly because it comes in black and I'm tired of having green hands. But I want something inexpensive that works well. Would love a dark knight sir Lancelot. Buy can't afford right now.

I have a stingray and I am not fond of it. The button is shit no matter how many times it has been worked on.

As for better off with an authentic.....dont be so certain. I have a small fortune in authentics...but I have also owned a ton of clones....in most cases, the clones stood shoulder to shoulder with their authentic counterparts...in some cases, they exceeded.

Do your research....some models are made by several clone manufacturers...some better than others. I would personally ask @Nikkita6 for her opinion. She is the ultimate class act and highly intelligent and objective. If she recommended a mod made from stale bread...I'd buy it.

I love my Stingray, but i have a collection of Nemesises (Nemeses? Nemesen?) for a reason: they're fantastic. A word of advice, though: brass and copper (especially of the sort you'll see in a clone) are relatively soft. Stainless steel is the way to go.

They are a pain to keep clean! Great as far as reduced voltage drop, but you gain the maintenance regimen not found with stainless.

Invest in catsup. Best thing to clean copper mods (seriously). I'd say go for it. You will need something to clean out the threads...they WILL be dirty.

At this stage in the game I would go with the Akuma over the Chi You, while I was actually a big fan of the Chi You style a year ago. I think you would fair better with voltage drop and overall build quality (provided that you buy a good Akuma clone). Being that the Chi You clone as been around so long, and cloned hand over fist, some of them are really lacking in quality as of late.

But I would have to agree with choosing a Stingray X over both .. its like getting the best of both worlds (Copper and SS) in one very attractive package. I would go for a SXK or Cigreen/Hcigar made Stingray X. :D

Darling I would never steer you to anything less than a mod made of fresh bakery bread :p ;)

We are the oiled sorority girls of vape forums......ECF is the french kissing your grandmother of vape forums...........YES, I JUST WENT THERE!
Lol!

And the Akuma is a nice mod. I have an Acerig clone... Avoid that manufacturer. The atty and battery adjustment is a fucking mess. It's almost unusable, unless you wanna spend ten minutes mounting an atty. Mine is from quite a while back right when it was released, so I suppose it could be improved by now.

Not a great first mech. I love my 4nine and 29.

Agreed very enthusiastically. Even as a second mod, you need to make sure you know what you're doing with the 4Nine. It hits like a champ, but it's ripe for disaster. You gotta pay attention with it. Also, it's picky regarding different batteries and atomizers, so I wouldn't have it as my primary, though it's constantly in rotation for me. It is a great mod.

The 4nine was my first, used it with a flat top battery, they make clones with shit buttons that you have to run a bottom top battery on it or it'll rattle like a soda can. There's not many RDAs anymore that won't work with a hybrid top cap. Almost all the big name RDAs have the center post for a hybrid setup. Also I've never had it auto fire in my pocket like several other mech mods I've owned. It's probably not the safest mod in the world but I love the 4nine

Same with the 29 (xxix). Fire it without an atty attached and you will vent the battery faster than you can think OOPS!

You are the second person that I have heard complain about Acerig as a manufacturer recently. Wonder whats up with them? I thought they did a stellar job with the Manhattan clone, but that is the only Acerig product that I have ever used. Good to know though ;)

Agreed ... the 4nine is an advanced user mech, as there is much that can go wrong if you don't understand how to properly use hybrid connecting devices. The 4nine had the highest user fail rate of any mech that was released this year. This is not the mech that you can just screw on any atomizer and go, and it is potentially dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

The authentic 4nine was created with the intention of being used ONLY with nipple top batteries ... so those are not shit clones, they are proper clones. The use of nipple top battery has two purposes, #1 decreasing the probability of short (smaller contact surface area), and #2 shortening the throw of the switch (long 510 + nipple = micro throw).

This mech was never intended for use with flat tops, although many have done so, some with issues and some without. I have used a flat top with my 4nines, but would only do so with a 510 pin that protrudes at least 2mm beyond the 510 threads.

I think a good rule of thumb is to look at the underside of the connector. If there is a delryn insulator the a flat top will work. If NOT as in the 29, then your best bet is a nipple top.
