So I was in this vape shop today, had to grab some cotton and of coarse these guys are trying to sell me on all this nice juice they had. they didn't mix in house or have their own line but all the big name juices. shop names and juice brands will remain nameless because other than my personal taste that differs the shop and the employees were totally awesome. its always awkward for me to refuse juice because after that its 90 questions about why not, where do you get your juice, can we make you anything special blah blah. then I say I DIY and always get that look like either shut up others might hear or get the ol oh mixing is hard and whatever I usually ignore it. sometimes Ill tell the shops that mix in house who I am and that's even funnier because they know that I know my juice is better than theirs :p

anyways on with the story. this was a nice clean place, all big name brands so I thought what the heck and I changed my mind and asked the dude to recommend a bakery or custard that he thought was the best of the best. what a waste of 30 bucks :giggle: geez this stuff is terrible. if vaping vendor juice was my only option Id probably just quit vaping at this point. should have just bought a cheeseburger. once a year ish I give in and buy some shop juice for the heck of it and am instantly reminded of why I DIY.

I found out right away that I am actually allergic to some ingredient in many/most commercial ejuices.
Major throat and oral inflammation.
Not sure what maybe artificial sweetners?
Anyway had I not started DIY with in 1 month I would have given up on vaping.
Well over 2.5 years 100% DIY.

I'm by far NOT a pro & my wife tried using a shop juice after using my DIY juice for a few weeks. I had only just started & have come leaps & bounds since then, but even then she said she could never go back. She had to change her coil & clean her tank because she said it was not worth vaping. That juice used to be her favorite, too. It was a very encouraging moment for me.

I got a flavor order from a European company I use regularly. They gave me a 50ml bottle of commercial juice. I looked it up and it's got rave reviews. I tried it and it was one dimensional...all sweet. I gave it away to a colleague. He likes it.

I do still buy store bought from to time to time for inspiration but DIY is the way to go and have never regretted it.

I pretty much buy store bought to support a local shop who has always treated me good. We all need inspiration and that should be rewarded.

I too am grateful for DIY though, best thing I have ever gotten into vape wise!

I wonder how many people have started vaping and stopped because of juice they don't like and/or don't want to spend so much on it. I've told a number of people that I DIY and invariably the reaction is one of surprise that I can do it. Perhaps many new vapers don't even know that it can be done.

I also wonder what percentage of vapers do DIY. Any ideas?

For me too, after about a month of starting vaping I started diy. But scouring the internet for recipes was a huge hit or miss, miss mostly until I found @HeadInClouds which led to @wllmc to @Squonk & others now. You all have been a Godsend, thank you all for your wonderful recipes  :blowkiss:

Yep, same here. I started on ELR but had no idea what I was doing until I found this place. Best damn forum around.

agreed :) when I started VU wasn't around so I had to learn from that other place. back then it was all about EM , sweetener and RY4 hahaha I don't think very many vapers even know about DIY and I'm sure a lot quit vaping because of the cost of vendor juice and another portion quits because they cant find flavor they like. I was so close to quitting myself before I found DIY. luckily that opened up a whole new world for me otherwise Id probably be back 2 packs a day

Prolly a single digit percentage.
Heck no more than 3% of vapers are even on vaping BB's.

Had a handful of 18650s that needed recycling. Took them to the vape shop where I used to buy juice and the guy was happy to accept them. In exchange for taking them off my hands, I bought a 15 ml of an old favorite, Unicorn Milk by Cuttwood. It's been almost two years since I vaped the stuff, I have so many different clones of it that I love. Really thought it would be a treat. It wasn't bad, but I don't remember it being so sweet. I can still taste residual sweetness from it in my coil days later. Still, I'm really glad I picked it up. Put to rest any lingering doubts about my own juice making skills.

Chickie I work with handed me her bottle of "Banana Bread" juice, told me to smell it. "Doesn't that smell amazing??!" I didn't know how to react, it smelled nothing like banana, nothing like banana bread. I couldn't tell you what it actually smelled like. Then she complained about the cost of buying juice. I responded that that's why I mix my own and her eyes bugged out. She was one of those that had no idea that you could actually mix your own. When I try to talk with other vapers (at work) about the ins and outs, they seem to have no interest in the learning process. I simply don't get it.

Yeah I get the same response from the few vapers I know and meet.
They look at me like I am a mad scientist or something.
Just mixed another 120 ml bottle of my vanilla custard. Took me under 10 minutes.

That's interesting. I only know one person who DIYs and I'm the person who introduced him to vaping and DIY. Actually, both he and his wife have quit and now vape. For him, he has to DIY to afford it for the two of them. But it's a testimony to how much he wanted to stop smoking. I also know 4 people at work who vape but still smoke. They have shown very little interest in anything other than the basics. I guess you get what you put in.

Love this thread. Makes me feel much better about the money I've spent over the last couple of weeks. Should be mixing in a few days. Have that nice tingly excited/nervous feeling. Vape mail this week will smell so good! :D

Whenever DIY spending becomes a concern for me, I just think of the amount I would have otherwise spent on stinkies and immediately feel much better!

Not too stressed. Start up cost will pay for itself within 3 months.

Just dump it out and wash the bottle. Fill it up with GOC and you are good to go for a day or a couple of hours at least.:giggle:

The last time I bought vendor juice was two years ago. The town I live in doesn't have a vape shop so when I'm out on the road I will stop in to check things out. Anyway found a cool shop in Kona and sat there for hours shooting the shit with locals. I bought some juice to make it worth the shop owners while. I don't remember the brands (I've slept and drank since then:giggle:), but they were not over sweetened or over flavored and tasted pretty good. I would have considered looking them up on the internet if I wasn't doing DIY. Why pay $20+ for a 30 ml that I can make for less than $1 that I know what is in it?

I bought vendor juice for one and half years thinking DIY is too hard. I could have bought more flavors and mods instead of juice... That's what I get for thinking...

I was at a shop recently too. As I hung out and looked at stuff people were buying ejuice. I felt bad for most of them. I imagined they thought this shop was their only option. At $26 for 30ML the money goes fast. They only offer fresh mixed house juice. Not to mention EVERY mod/tank/kit was priced 3X what it is online.

I wanted to bring up the unjustified sale price but that would be wrong. The guy is trying to make a living. I want to help people but dont want to cross the line. I know for a fact their stuff isnt anything special. I used to think it was really good until I started DIY.

I agree to a point. Lot of overhead in a b&m. Most shops around here stick with MSRP on juices, bump coils 10-20% and gear 20-30% MSRP.
I can see that, but double or more of MSRP?

Many shop owners in my area are owned by those of questionable past shall I say.
Not the type I would invite over to my place for a gathering.

Sounds like my friends including my husband, all of them constantly complain about the ejuice prices, flavors are not being on point or absolutely off and what not. As I then suggested to start diy, non of them is or was interested, which makes me sad because I really thought I could experience and share it with them. I've gotten them all vaping, guess that's an accomplishment, but they all act like woman (no offense lol), want their stuff handed to them and working with no or barely any effort. Making it for me sometimes so overwhelming, thanks to the forums tho, I mostly can read up on stuff :) I yet have to understand their logic.

I can assure you that attitude is not limited to females - the only DIY people I know personally - including myself - are women;)

In fact, more men look at me like I'm nuts when I talk about DIY than those of the gentler sex

You are all being sweet. May change your tune when the questions start. lol
No way you can have dumber questions than I've had, but everyone here has been super helpful even when the answer was super obvious. I've learned that in learning DIY, the answers often are easy to overlook. It's nice when you're surrounded by helpful people rather than trolls trying to make everyone feel stupid. That's why I love this place!
