Zipper coil. Came in at .33 ohms. Great flavor

Forgive me but what's a zipper coil and how do you wrap it? What does it do that micro coils can't? Give more flavor? Thicker vape? Just curious..thx

Check this video out.
I think it gives off a better flavor and the vapor is impressive.

So, I wake up like too-damn-early o'clock today, decided I'd make a burger and work on my new Orchid v4 RTA.

Wanted 1.1 ohms like my Fogger v4, so did up some 14 wrap dual-coils of 28 gauge Kanthal, wrapped by hand on a 1.8mm screwdriver. Not totally perfect, but good enough for me.

The stages of burn-in:

10W - testing and checking center heating is go.

15W - Starting to cook now, spreading the warmth around.

20W Full burn - "Lookies Maw, I mades me a lighty-bulb!"

I think it got a tad warm. It actually gave it a 'purdy burnished treatment..heheh

I wanted 1.1 ohms, by gawd I got it.

I still gotta wick it up with Cellocotton and stuff...fingers and eyes are beat though. Gonna finish it later. :)

@CaFF I'm running mine at 0.2 lol. Good Atty tho

Heheh yeah..I'm using 18mg juice...that would not go well. ;-)

I never had any of the *funs, but love my Aquas and Fogger v4, so I had to get this one. It's got all the things I like. Very nicely made too...no filing down of stuff needed.

That's the most wraps I've ever done on a build...coulda used higher gauge, but meh.
It fits the space nicely, so it's all good even if my old eyeballs and hands are achey now. ;)

Got bored and decided to see what the hype of parallels is about. So this is 0.3 ohm build with twisted and flattened 26 ga wire. Hits better than the dual 26 ga coils for sure. Pretty good flavor too.

I built this on the wife's Enigma. When she got home and asked about it I claimed no knowledge of it, and it must
have been Vape Gnomes broke in. She wasn't buying it.
28G
5/64 bit
.9 - 1.0 ohm
at least that's what the Gnomes said.
Takes to much power.

After many hours of staring at coils, it seemed most vapor was produced at the ends of the coil.
So being bored...
24G
5/64 bit
.4 ohm
Vapor like a quad, resistance like a dual.
Butt load of vapor and flavor.

I made the bend in the middle first, then held the bend to the bit and wrapped one side and then the other. Both legs should be on the top or bottom.
When calculating resistance for this style just count the bend as 1 wrap. (I've built .2 - .4 ohm).

I did the first wrap then i got the little screw that the atty came with to do the bend

Yeah. Works decently. Tried dual 22ga parallels also but that was too nuts even for me. Ohms are, or should be, about 0.09 - 0.1. Dont know for sure.

This wanted to be a fused clapton coil, but it loosened up a little and wouldn't stay flat during wrapping. Still works great though and mucho flavor. 30 ga. wrapped over 2 strands of 26 ga. It's around 0.6 ohms. The vape is quite enjoyable.

I found some notes I'd made...
24G
6 wraps around 3/32 bit (3+3=6 per coil)
.28 ohm

I'm having some trouble wrapping my head around such a high res with parallel 24. I'll have to do my homework. But here's a sloppy but interesting variation [not my work] I had planned for the 454BB…

Not the neatest array but a great wick platform by phi303 on reddit.

I've done twisted bunnies on the Helios with twisted but it's a bear of a job. And none came out consistent enough as t.m.c.'s to memorialize. Good vape tho.

Thanks for the trip Mo.

Good luck.

:)

Parallel 24g was too hot for me..This build of parallel 26g (.12) is much better in this 28.5mm Stillare on top of the stainless BFM..

Nice builds on this thread. I remember when rdas first started to hit the scene, like the A7. Everyone said, DO NOT LET YOUR COILS TOUCH!!!!!! I think we've thrown that out the window and proven it wrong. Now we have 2-4 or more coils pressed against each other.

Lets hope i dont run out of kanthal, stock is getting low.. I love building, if i could i would make it a profession. I dont usually bother with over the top complex builds, because there are nearly thousands of variables in regular micros/macros/jumbos and parallels to explore and perfect.

Hey all, I know it's been a while since I've checked in, figured you'd be sick of seeing the same 4/5/6 wraps of 20g around a 3/32nds in different atomizers hahaha.
So here's something actually new and interesting! My first build on my fantastic new series box built by Andy Bader of XRayBoxMods;
SeriesDoge.jpg
Dual 10-wrap of 22g Kanthal A1 around a 3/32nds, ohm'ing to .32 in the Doge.

Basic center coil with 22ga believe it was .9

You must be from my tribe. Do I know you?

That's one of the common ways I wick KGD. I wrap the tails down into the well with fine point tweezers. Sorta resembling a hair bun. Makes for a long lasting wick than cut ends methinks. Although I use that method too. And I pack full and tight but that's a lot of cotton bro. Get too much of that under and behind that fine twist and you'll choke it.

Pretty wind but looks kinda light for 22. If that's a single it's more likely 26 AWG and that would make your res assumption about right.

If you didn't wind a tensioned micro you came pretty dang close. A needle nose or forceps to tighten during or after will almost get ya there but not quite hit the mark with consistency. If you had you'd see a jump in efficiency. When you're ready to try one of these hit me up…

Good luck.

:)

No it's 24ga the coil was wrapped around a thick micro driver. Ot isn't how many wraps, it's how much wire you use. I wrapped it in a biger circumstance to use more wire and bring the ohm up. Its on a IPV2 if I like my builds in the .8-1.1 range. I ordered 24ga and it is the same size as my other 24ga.

I like to wick it that way because if you get your coil lined up even with the air hole, it puts direct airflow in a stream over the top of the coil. I think it heats up the vape a tid bit as well

Tension winding will be my next big thing to experiment with, MacTechVpr has convinced me.
