Another question (regarding my mod)

So...

My Smok AL85 came in the mail today, and upon initial inspection I noticed a "+" logo made of some paper-looking material at the bottom of my battery port. I thought "alright cool, positive side goes down...got it. Now lets get that bugger out of there." After poking at it with a screwdriver some, it appears that the thing is captive. Could anyone confirm that this is indeed the case? Does that guy really stay in there? I don't wanna go starting any fires by chucking my battery in the mod with that thing, but it doesn't seem to come out.

Furthermore, the "+" thingy is slightly off-centered causing its central ring to be very close to the battery contactor.

That is to indicate which direction the battery should go. The positive goes inside where the plus sign is.

Thank you for the suggestion sir, but as an individual who has previous work history in the field of troubleshooting electronics, you best believe that was the first thing I did...but thanks!!!

P.S. Smok needs to hire some english speakers to write their manuals

Why in the world would you even think of removing the marking for the correct way the battery goes if you have previous experience in electronics?

Okay, Steve...please. There is a "-" symbol etched into the metal of the top cap.

Etched into the metal.

Its not going anywhere. On the other hand, this "+" symbol is printed on a glossy paper of sorts...much less permanent. So yeah, i figured it might need to come out. Is that okay with you...Steve? Or would you like a picture of the "-" symbol too?

Furthermore, there was no confusion on my part in which way the battery is inserted. That was made clear in my initial post. Reading comprehension is a valuable skill.

No its not "now" that I notice additional markings -- it was the etching that led me to draw my conclusion that the "+" thingy comes out. It is clear that you do not own an AL85 or else you would be aware of this etching and more capable of assisting a brother in need. Now please, unless you have some actual, useful insight regarding this matter, go and annoy someone else elsewhere.

Yes Steve, I used the word "thingy." Astonishing observation. Though given the casual nature of online forums, I'd say that it was merely an exercise in pragmatics.

Enjoy your Google search for that definition.
Good day sir.

Next time read the manual before you hurt yourself or fry the MOD. I give you a month before you are complaining that it doesn't work.

Better yet, how about YOU read the manual Steve. Im sure its floating around the interwebz in PDF format somewhere. Then...when you see the portion of the manual which specifically answers my question...you can present it to the world here on the forums. You will disgrace me and the whole forum will look to you as a hero!

Except thats not going to happen. I read the manual before even posting and it's not in there. I'm not the type to ask for help if I'm not already at wit's end.

You really should give it up as I already posted images of the battery installation for you to reference. All of my SMOK products have labels inside the battery compartments for POSITIVE and the NEGATIVE. I hope I wasn't getting too technical with my language for you. Why not just admit you made a freaking bonehead maneuver and let it rest. You said you read the manual but you don't have the PDF?

I feel like you dont have any idea of what im asking here. Im not asking which way the battery goes in. It is abundantly clear that the positive side goes down. Nor am i asking how to install the battery. An idiot could figure that out. The initial question...once again...is: do I remove the paper-looking "+" thing in my battery compartment. Recall: there is a negative sign etched on the top cap.

And wtf? Yes I read the manual. It was a booklet included with the mod. Why in the world would I have the manual in PDF form? SMOK didnt send me some USB with the manual on it in digital form. Did they do that for you? *gasp* Did i get a clone? Well shit...

The label is there to prevent uneducated people from incorrectly installing the batteries. For someone who claims to have "work History" in electronics troubleshooting why is it that when I said that it is there to indicate the proper way to install the batteries not sufficient as an answer? I guess you needed it simpler like Khassy said...................

So we don't see you on the news one day.

To add to that, my al85 doesn't have a paper, sticky paper, tape or whatever you wanna call it in the battery compartment. Mine actually has a etched plus in the bottom, that's then covered with red paint. Now I'm not going to actual have it checked out if its real paint or lacquer etc, just going by the look of it. Same for the top cap with an etched minus. The top cap does have a very sharp as well as tight connection, were sometimes it might look like the cap wouldn't fit, but smok is known for that issue on their al220's as well as the al85's. I still wouldn't remove the paper if you bought it form a good and trusted store or online vendor, if you purchased it from eBay on the other hand, I'll return it and look somewhere else, removing that paper might or might not become a problem down the road, a safety risk I personally wouldn't be willing to take.

Thanks for the input eStorm. I purchased the vape from elementvape so I know its the real deal. Currently waiting on my battery to charge so I can check the resistance on my coils and finish the build. Fingers crossed all goes well!

***EDIT: All is indeed going well! This thing is packing some serious flavor (mind you i'm coming from a smok stick V8). I ended up using dual coil 24g Kanthol 6 wraps around. Comes out to .24 ohms and I'm running it at 50.0 watts for the time being. Money well spent! :)
