I have a deck I bought a good while back, unfortunately I've never really had anyone to play it with, so they just collect dust. There is the card shop where I got them from, but tbh it's too far of a drive for me to really care to go to and play it, although I may consider doing it once a week at some point. I do have duels of the planeswalker 2012 and it was good, i enjoyed playing it. I, however, didn't buy any of the newer ones since I couldn't justify paying full price for essentially the same game. To be fair I really didn't look much into the ones after the 2012 version, but I figured that the gameplay didn't change and it was probably just upgraded with newer cards and maybe slightly different multiplayer. Tbh I don't know exactly what deck / box i got, but it was the one that had the foil Sphix of Uthuun card

Yeah i saw that a while back and at the time was having issues with my phone's space. I think i got it fixed now with a different rom and tweaking link2sd, but because of (supposedly) not being able to have the partition where the apps install go past 2gb, it seemed like quite a bit of space (1gb) just for that game. I may install it later down the road, but right now i have a decent portion of that space already filled and don't really feel like uninstalling apps to get that one game installed. But that is pretty cool that it's free though, if the pc version was then I'd be gold haha.

Man, I was way into Magic back when I was 12 and on. At one point I had a few thousand cards and played with my friends on the school bus in the morning and going home. I fell out of it around 14-15 years old when my priorities shifted from playing with friends to partying with friends and chasing girls lol. After that I played very very sparingly, pretty much only when I met another person who played. At some point I sold all my cards on ebay.

If I had friends who played I would definitely get back into it, it was a fun fun game and the hobby part of building decks and stuff can be a lot of fun too. Wish I would have kept my cards, some of them would probably be worth some loot now a days. I think the "newest" edition cards I had were from Planeshift, i think. Whatever set that had that badass 9/9 card called "Draco". But most of my cards were from Tempest and earlier. I remember I had the full set of the Elder Dragons gold cards, and a bunch of other rare dragon cards. Probably some money in those now. Even had some cards from the Beta set, or around there, if I remember right.

My favorite decks were always either straight up burn decks stacked with lots of land and incinerates, fireballs, disintigrates, and other X damage cards, or white heat decks with the X damage reds and life restoring and angel white cards. Lots of fun with those. Also had fun playing blue counter spell/flying decks too. Good times.

Awesome thread. I am teaching my 12 y/o daughter now but I'm no expert. We are currently building "theme" decks legal for standard play at the local comic shop. I chose vampires (black/white) and she is still debating.

I got her interested because I like to buy booster boxes (36 packs) and we all unwrap them and sort them and geek out... It's like the D&D monster manual come to life or something.

Usually my daughter will take a pre constructed and wreck my pathetic attempt at a deck but we have great fun.

Hail to you fellow MtG players!

My current horror of a deck is black/white extortion. I run phylactery lich, ghost counsil of orzhova and obzedat ghost council. Lots of life link and extort. Tithe Drinker, Vampire Nighthawk. It's fast too. Ran it in a 10 player game. Most people don't think losing 1 or 2 life when I cast is all that bad, but when I drain 1 or 2 life from 9 other players, that's a serious problem. If my deck plays perfectly, turn 4, I'm sapping 4 life per cheap spell. 36 life I gain per spell. Gets ugly FAST. Phylactery lich does some mop up as a 5/5 indestructible. Paragon of the open graves, Elspeth, Sun's Champion and Sorin Markov for Shits and giggles.

I'll post some horrifying combos on here too. One of my personal favorites is;
Circle of Affliction, choose red.
Manaflare.
Manabarbs.

Im not up on the new cards, so no idea what your talking about lol. Back in the day my favorite combo was Ali From Cairo paired with Anti Magic Aura (think thats what it was called) and another card or 2, I forget now it was so long ago.

But basically with Ali on the board, you cant be brought down below 1 life, and with the AMA card and the other ones on him, he cant be destroyed, making you totally invincible. Then its just a matter of time. Usually plugged the deck full of 1/1 creatures to just ping the opponents life away.

Back in the day in my circle of friends, that was the combo to have. Of course back then the Ali From Cairo was worth about $100, so it wasnt easily available. I was uber lucky to have gotten 2 of them having my parents buy me random lots from ebay lol.

I do have a vintage deck that you being old school will know. Power 9. All alpha and play set of each. I could sell that deck and buy a REALLY nice house. Not much your opponent can do when the first turn is the only turn. Why Black Lotus sells for upwards of $10,000 is kind of ridiculous. Moxes are a couple grand each. Growing up in and around Seattle was a boon for me as a M:TG player. It was created in Redmond, only a few miles away. Up till Mirage, Washington always got set releases first. It was great. Memories. Lol.

Try finding Tithe Drinker. Cheap 2/1 life link vampire with extort. Costs B+W to cast. Very efficient for the management cost. Even if you never use it in combat, it can still generate life for you. Cast a spell, pay a B or W, all opponents lose 1 life, you gain that much life. IE, 3 player game. Extort for 1. Players 2 and 3 each lose 1 life. You gain 2 life. Might seem janky at first, but it's fun. Type 1.5 creatures to look for for life ramp will include Souls of the Faultless, Agent of Masks, Vampire Nighthawk, Bloodline Keeper and Vampire Nocturnus. Planeswalker should be any of the Sorin cards. If you really feel like an ass, use Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood together. Deal 1 damage and that player dies regardless of life total. :)

Yea prices on those old Alpha rares are insane now a days. I remember when I still was into it an Alpha Black Lotus would sell for anywhere between $300-$400. The Moxes were only about $150. And they really werent all that super rare like now. Basically every shop I would go to had a Black Lotus and some other Alpha rares for sale. Now you go on ebay and you cant find a Black Lotus under $10k.

Pokemon cards are the same way. I was 12-13 when Pokemon first hit it big in the States with the show and card game. I had a bunch of cards and had a legit 1st edition, 1st run Charizard. Another kid on the military base we lived on was moving, and the day before he left he broke into a bunch of houses and stole everyones Pokemon cards (lol), including mine. I was pissed when I saw a couple years ago that that particular card was worth upwards of $5000-8000.

Tithe drinker is noted; good call.

So here is what I got. Remember this is built off of what I have (I did buy a few cards) and not what is *possible* with the set... This is kinda crappy but this is the best I can do pulling out of "magic assistant"..

Use the falkenrath nobles to deter attacks. Bloodline Keeper/Lord of Lineage to pump out vampires. Consider a paragon of the open graves for +1/+1 to your black creatures and on the fly death touch. Also look into blanket effects for control. Curse of Death's Hold keeps weenies off the field.

I googled mtg and vaping and found this post.

Anyways my favorite format is vintage. I have a weekly column about the format published online.

I used to know a lot of smokers who played magic so I wondered how much crossover there would be between vaping and mtg. Both are hobbies and have a lot of content created for them.

How did I miss this thread. Loved MTG back in my teens. Our hobby shop used to sell packs of unlimited but nobody would pay $30 a pack for those. Want to say that was right about the time Arabian Nights and Legends were newish. The best was when they got a case of Revised that were the mythical "God Packs" that had like 4 uncommons and the rest rares. Was pretty neat ripping open booster packs that had 3-4 combo lands in them!

Wow Kethiju! 23 years is amazing. My 33 year old son has been playing since he was in his early teens. So much so, he had an eBay Store, played non stop, had to get shelving for all of the cards he had and made a good profit. Of course, he would only sell a vintage/high ranking card if he already had one.

I'm going to email him to see what cards he hoarded. He may want to play or consider selling what he has. One thing his father taught him is to save items that will be worth much more in the years to come. As with technology, he's now a hard core gamer when he's not being a manager for an investment company.

I'm sorry to interrupt your discussion. Carry on...
