Clapton build for single battery mod

Hello,

I use my VTC Mini (75w) with Velocity v1 rda on top. Already tried Kanthal 26-32g and SS 26-34g claptons but there is not enough power or it is killing my battery for few hours.

Im searching for appropriate gauge and material for making clapton coil or dual fused claptons that dont need too much power.

I know that single battery mod is not good for big coils but I need small size device when at work.

Well, the gauge of the wire and being a clapton is not really what is killing your battery.
The "clapton" exterior wrap is really only causing an insulator to the core wire, but does take a little more wattage to heat it up.

What resistance were you running on your coil?

Example --- you could run a 3mm ID coil, 26g/36g KA1 clapton.
Put 6 wraps on it for 1.0Ω
Put 4 wraps on it for ~.75Ω

Run a 2.5mm ID coil, 26g/36g KA1 clapton.
Put 8 wraps on it for 1.2Ω
Put 5 wraps on it for ~0.8Ω

Usually -- the higher the Ω (1.0 >) will require less wattage to power it. Less wattage == longer battery life as you are draining it less.

13W @ 1Ω will net you approx 46min (553 puffs approx)
-- vs --
30W @ 1Ω will net you approx 20min (240 puffs approx)

** rough counts with an HG2 battery setting.

This would also be a decent little coil for that deck.

28g/38g KA1 Clapton -- 2.5 ID, 7 wraps @ 1.5Ω
You could run this coil between 20-30W nicely, depending on how hot you like it.

Keep in mind that KA1 (Kanthal) wire does not heat up as quickly as Ni80 or SS316L.
If you want a fast ramp up, I would use SS316L.

28g/38g SS316L Clapton -- 2.5 ID, 8 wraps @ .75Ω
Run between 20-30W nicely.

Also, make sure you have the latest firmware installed on that device.

Looks like there have been some recent updates to the firmware that give you more features / options, to include the Preheat functionality.

Preheat Function Available
We listened to our fans about adding the preheat into our existing firmware upgradeable devices. And now, the preheat function is available. This is especially an essential when using an RDA, RTA, ceramic heads and so on.

Thanks for the replies. Just ordered the wires.

Currently I have .25 build. I dont care about clouds on single battery, but what will happen with flavor with such a high ohm build 1.5/0.75?

Yup, having the resistance at .25Ω and pumping some wattage at it will eat up a battery quickly.

The flavor won't suffer all that much really. Keep the amount of cotton in the coil loose (don't tight stuff it - less is more theory).

There are many squonker fans here (including me) that use a single coil setup and can get a tremendous amount of flavor from a tiny coil, high ohm setup. This is more of what was done "back in the day" with MECH mods, before "sub-ohm vaping" became a thing. This style of setup will however make the vape style more "MTL" (Mouth to Lung) instead of "DL" (Direct Lung).

Here is an example. Origen Little atty with a 28g SS316L @ 9 wraps - 2.5ID. This came in just at .8Ω
Put a little bit of cotton in the coil and trimmed out the sides for better airflow. Left small tails to wick up the juice from the bottom of the deck.
Small vapor, but immense flavor.

The Hadaly styled RDA is another good single coil atty. Same idea with him.

Since I mentioned the Hadaly -- Here is my Hadaly that I coiled out last night with a single Clapton coil.
One hell of a flavorful vape.

26g/36g SS316L -- 8 wraps on 3mm ID --- reads out at .64Ω

i use a 28x2 ni80/36 fused claptons on my hadaly @ .5 ohms at 45 watts. almost zero ramp up time for a relaxed vape. im here looking for other suggestions since i use a VT inbox single battery squonker and I pretty much stopped using my other mods and tanks and now use the hadaly exclusively almost. my upcoming mod is another single battery squonker... still waiting for that to be made :D
