Yea I polished the flutes to give it somthing extra. Put in a mark II hammer bushing and removed the mag disconnect. Also polished the bearing surfaces of sear and hammer and trigger. She is a nice shooter.

Sadly I can't add what I own to this thread... i don't own any firearms too expensive for me right now.

Add to it last summer had a bit saved up plus a bit more from income tax, well wife and I go to the local shop, and he actually and the exact rifle and hand gun I have wanted for some time now.
Everything is going good, I have the money for a hardshell case with reinforced padlock slot on it. As well as a few boxes of ammo. Then his wife looks at me
"Your not taking any of this home with ya." "The hell do you mean I'm not?" Background check didn't go through, but you can send in this paper work to appeal it. So I did, few months later I finally hear back from Harrisburg, oh yeah sorry you can buy firearms, here's this paper that confirms that. Our bad.
By that time I had to use that money for other things dammit. So now I once again am stuck borrowing in laws rifles for hunting.

Glad my father in law never threatened me back when the wife originally wanted to move in with me before we got married. Makes me trust him so much.

Just an old school shooter.
1946 Model 70 chambered in 30 Belted Newton (30-338). -1 group capable @ 200 yards.
I was only 5 years old when my dad put that beast together in 1946. Now my grandson hunts with it.

Good morning fellow pea shooters. Thank 2whitewolves for pointing me in the direction of this thread.

I'm curious to know if I'm the only one who finds that vaping doesn't mesh so well as far as being accepted when your local peer group or community is more rural or traditional in mindset and values. We vapers are "douches" or some such. We need to change that. Vaping has been so good for my own health. I'm a blue collar guy who works outdoors year round and vaping has made me more effective, also a better shooter. You gotta breathe to shoot well.

Anyway, back on topic. Some pics I shared in my post about firearms. I have more than a few and have had all sorts. With my handguns though I have eliminated everything from my handgun collection (I don't collect, mine all get used) except a few revolvers I can't let go. Everything else is Austrian.

Here's our litttle AR500 steel pate range.

A 3" and a 6" S&W 686 Plus Talo.

Same hand cannons all dressed in their "go to meetin" attire.

The Ruger SR in 45LC/454 Casull and the Ruger Mark III's are the only ones in this photo that still reside here. Yes, I do reload.

Here's a Ruger "boat paddle" in 22 magnum with a Leupold VX1 I think it is.

And again

I coach our counties 4H hangun team. Shooting has been a big part of my two boys life. They both have a nice little pile of trophies. We love the Ruger Mark series and have a few pricier ones but our best shooter is a Ruger 22/45 with a polymer stock. Cheapest version of the gun you can buy. It does have a few aftermarket internals to improve the trigger.

Off to work...

I'll be applying for a firearm's license next week and hopefully obtaining a pistol sometime in the very near future. After that, I'm applying for a CCP. I've wanted one for quite some time now (well, most of my life actually) but recent events has brought the issue to a head so that my husband agrees that I should have one - just in case.

I'm looking for something small and easy to fire, like a Ruger LCPII, S&W Shield9 or S&W Shield45.

I'm a bad boy. Non-violent, non-drug, etc, just a bad boy. Can't get involved in this thread. But I can say I respect, applaud and encourage American gun owners and support the gun owner's rights completely. I honestly hope the time never comes I have to come out of the closet; until then, keep up the good work.

Oh, anyone know how well someone with eye dominance issues can fire a handgun? He can't use rifles well, as he's right hand/left eye dominant. But we were wondering if that would carry over to handguns or if he'd be able to use one.

Tell him to start off with a large target pistol like a Mark 3 or 4 Ruger or 1911...instead of the usual stance with the gun in front of the dominent Hand eye , line the gun up in the center and shoot with both eyes open. It is initially frustrating and awkward.....Around the 4 or 500 round mark it starts to make sense. (Hence the reason I recommend a 22 for initial eye training....cheap ammo)Shoot 15 yards MAX, I'd stay in that 7-15 yard area for spell till 8 or ten are inside the 8 ring then move the target out five yards...Repeat.

The goal is 25 yards all rounds inside the 8 and remember.....Shoot small miss small...Practice with as much distance as you can be accurate with.

Browning has this hideous pink camo pistol. I'm like wtf, why would I want that fuglyass thing??? And I'm someone who really likes pink things. Glock also has pistols in "eggshell blue" and "royal purple," both of which are equally hideous imo.

"Pretty" but not practical. I'll have hubby switch out the pinks.
Oh, I have a Glock 19, new in box, I'll be selling. If you know of anyone in AZ that would be interested, LMK.

Khassy, we're open and concealed here. I have my permit.

Here's the article:

Gun Owners of America (GOA) recently announced that 200 members of Congress now support the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would allow eligible concealed carriers to carry firearms across the country.

Screen-Shot-2017-06-23-at-1.51.08-PM.png

(Twitter)

“With 199 co-sponsors, plus chief sponsor Richard Hudson, support for the bill has reached an almost unprecedented level of support,” said GOA Executive Director Erich Pratt.

“GOA is urging members who have co-sponsored to urge their colleagues to support the bill as well,” Pratt said.

Given the recent shooting at a Congressional baseball practice, where Rep. Steve Scalise and others were injured, there is more urgency to pass the bill.

“[GOA] wants the bill to move quickly … sooner than later,” Pratt said. “If [the bill] doesn’t move, it will be clear that Paul Ryan has no serious interest in passing this legislation,” Pratt said.

Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit lobbying organization dedicated to protected the right to keep and bear arms without compromise, and it has more than 1.5 million members and activities.

yawn, someone wake me up (if I am still alive) when there is a national constitutional carry bill with that sort of support. My state already has reciprocity with any other state that has a CC license so I doubt this bill will change anything for me, much like our state's Con Carry bill working it's way thru our legislature won't really change anything for me since I already have a CPL (even considering the fact I mostly open carry).

We have open and concealed carry, no registration, no waiting period on handguns or long guns, and Castle Doctrine.

we have all of that except the registration/confiscation BS. I have been OC'ing since 2010 while I was waiting for my CPL, and I hardly ever CC since I got my CPL, though lately I am borderline CC since I carry IWB appendix with my shirt tucked in my pants/shorts behind the grip (aka virginia tuck).

I found it interesting when I started doing research that our CCP covers handguns, electric weapons and billy clubs. :giggle: Also knives, and switchblades are no longer prohibited.

we finally have legislation passed, waiting on the gov signature, to allow us to own (not sure about carry yet, knife carry laws suck here) switchblades.

I've had a spring-assist knife for ages that I carry everywhere. I also have a folding hunting-type knife that I got about 30 years ago, which I gave to my younger son a couple of years ago when he started using public transportation. He recently got a spring-assist so he's giving me back my other knife.

My spring-assist is pink. It makes me giggle to think that I might have to stab some bad guy with a pink knife at some point. :teehee::teehee:

So does anyone have any suggestions on a pistol that isn't too terribly expensive (under $400), is kinda smallish (I have small hands) and doesn't have a horrible kick?

I haven't shot it yet so not sure on kick so you should search out some reviews but my brother really likes his shield. i was tempted to get one because of the $75 rebate offer they were running but passed on it, not sure if rebate offer is still in effect.

I would look for a used Khar 380, Glock 42, or a Bererra Bobcat, Ruger SR9, or a Sig P250C. They can be found in that range of price used and are pretty small and pack many features you would want in a long term side arm..Other guns in the range are popular but are lacking in alot of features or comfort...

.22LR, .22WIN, 25acp, 32acp, .380 are all calibers that have low recoil and are fun to shoot but they will require practice to be useful in a defensive situation...They are low in mass and charge but the only thing that really matters is accuracy-a shot from a .17 pellet gun is just as effective as a .50 if both hit the right spot.

The S&W Shield is a very usable handgun. With an apex sear upgrade it's much, much better. If you have a friend who is handy and find yourself at the point you want a lighter trigger which will help you hit where you shoot better then order and install that upgrade. That heavy factory trigger is there to keep the attorneys happy.

Also if you're going to purse carry, consider a pocket holster. You don't want that gun bobbing around in your purse without something keeping that trigger protected. The Desantis pocket holster has served me well. I can grab one and get you the model number if you like. I pocket carried a shield for a long time and still use the Desantis pocket holster for my Glocks.

Learn about dry fire practice at home. If you're going to carry, dry fire practice 15 minutes each day. It will pay dividends if God forbid you ever actually need your handgun. Hit the range every week or so.

Ruger 22/45
Another one of my favorite plinkers.

I have used a lot of Ruger Mark series pistols, both my own and also when coaching the kids at 4H. My sons shoot well and often win. I do ok myself. I change out some internal parts in all of ours and do some polishing to get the most from them.

A 22/45 target model much like your own is the best shooting gun of the lot, also the cheapest. A hammer bushing to eliminate the magazine disconnect and a Volquartsen sear upgrade make for a nice 2.5 to 3 pound trigger. It's no longer a woods gun after that because the trigger is so light but for a paper puncher it's an excellent improvement over the stock trigger pull.

Yeah, I've heard about the trigger thing. I'll be talking to them at the range to see if someone can alter it for me. As far as carrying it, I won't be using a purse carry. I'm getting a belly band holster and will be practicing drawing it from that until I'm very comfortable with it.

Nah....maybe when all the kids move out...they arent as trained as I was at their ages and their mother is terrified of guns. My dad reloads though...I find it a very soothing experience reloading, just like when I build. Could be why I enjoy building so much?

Reloading...

It's not going to save you money.

It will probably turn into yet another thing where you're upgrading your gear and improving your process until it becomes a hobby of it's own.

It takes a lot of completely distraction free attention to detail.

You will shoot some of the most consistent ammo you have ever shot and you can perfectly tailor it to your own firearms. Especially with rifles you can really fine tune your rifle and ammo for accuracy you can't get otherwise.

I've been reloading for a few years but while I've got the dies, bullets, powders and brass to do my rifles I haven't loaded the first rifle round yet. I've just been doing handguns and won't be moving up until I have this perfected better.

I would imagine Raymo would really enjoy it.
