sometimes the copper firing button on my Virtus cv1 gets hot when I go to fire it. and it gets real hot real quick. next time around it doesn't do it. what can I do to fix this? I already polished the top pin and bottom pin. can the switch be taken apart? maybe that inside needs to be cleaned? I can't figure it out tho. sucks when it gets hot!

My experience with mech mods is limited but I know electricity and electronics. My guess would be a short. Have you ever checked to see if the battery is hot also when this happens? If it's intermittent and you know the switch isn't acting any different I would investigate the build for tightness of screws, not touching top cap, make sure the 510 isn't shorting out if it's a hybrid. Sorry if you checked all this. Just trying to help.

What's the mech made out of?
If it heats up its because there is conductivity issues in the design or due to dirt, usually in the threads. Get some 3 in 1 oil and buff the shit out of your threads, I'd it's aluminum toss it and buy something worth while.

I'd recommend cleaning up contacts and threads, as suggested

What's in the button housing? Spring? Magnet?

Also price has little to do with how well the product is made. I paid over 300 for my copper cherry bomber and I can't put it in my pocket with keys or change because it has a chance of auto firing.

no idea, can't get it apart... not sure how to, don't want to ruin it because these are not made anymore.

The problem is probably in there then. Could be collapsed spring. If it's magnets than maybe the housing is dirty, sometimes magnets expel some gnarly shit that looks like dirt. Gotta find a way to get in there and clean it up real good. There has to be a way I've never seen a mech that couldn't be disassembled completely.

Have you tried turning the contact with your thumb? How's the button? No signs of anything there?

na, and I cleaned the threads again and used a little dialectic grease and the hot button went away.
as for taking apart the switch it's not going to happen. I'd hate to fuck it up and be screwed, especially with this mech that is hard to come by. I was able to obtain it for under $50. can't beat that!

You will need to disassemble the button and polish it sooner or later. I don't think there is a tube mech in existence that does not need button maintenance (and if there are, your's isn't one of them:))

Once you do polish all pieces that make contact in the button, hot button will go away and performance will improve... until it needs to be polished again.

I don't know that mech but it does look like you would just turn the button with your thumb to start disassembly. The good thing about a mech is you can't break it ;)

Back in the day I used to do button maintenance weekly to keep it running in peak performance

Try holding the inside brass piece with a finger and turning the button, does it unthread?
Edit, yeah... or hold the delrin housing and turn the button

Is the Delrin reverse threaded possibly?
tried that too.... Maybe I should drop it in wd40 for an hour..? maybe that will loosen something... just strachted the button I'm pissed. once I get it apart hopefully I'll re polished the button. this is annoying as heck!

Slight scratches should polish out.
From a google search... but I think I would avoid pliers. No tools should be needed.

"You might have to unscrew the bottom contact to get that out. To unscrew the bottom, push the button so the contact moves up, then grab it with a pair of pliers and unscrew it. You might be able to do it without the pliers if it's not on there too tight. Once you get that contact pin unscrewed, the button should just come right out of the bottom and then it'll be a piece of cake to take the rest apart."

That button really should just thread up into the center brass part. If you can keep that center brass part from spinning while you turn the button, it should come apart a lot like mine does.

that center brass does not spin it is pressure fit into the black delrin. just tried all u said nothing. my next attempt is a hole on opposite sides of the delrin so I can stick a pliers in that way and unscrew it... IF it unscrews. this so lame.

Well shit.
It has to come apart one way or another.
Maybe grab the couple mm's of delrin with pliers and try to turn it out? Pliers would be a last resort but not sure of what else to try.

What happens when you turn the button? It doesn't turn? Or it just spins and you get nowhere?

Yeah...they put the thing together, it must come apart ;)

I messaged a few dudes on Ebay who have them, got one response that basically said with 50 words..."I don't know" shit you not, ill copy paste that shit lol...

Probably have to contact the company. The one I have is brand new never been used. They are really hard to find. My one that I have for personal use I've never had any problems out of it. I've had it over 3 years. Only thing I know would be to contact the company. My apologies wish I could help more. But I've never had any problems out of the one that's my personal one. Sorry wish I could help more I'll try & find out for you. Thanks

3 years and never cleaned the button...pssh lol

I think I'd put that process off until I was getting 3rd degree burns from the button.
Whoever designed that button should be put out of business... oh, they are lol.
Jk.

lol. if you only felt the mod in your hand and used it, you'd be sold on it. hits hard feels great easy to use and now that we established how the switch works now it's easy to maintain. it's possible the switch was designed this way for less moving parts, less threading = less vdc drop. who knows but it was a good investment. because there were not many made and I have a low serial#, plus mech is 10/10, like new escept the brass is scuffed from me using the mod.
