Vaping newb, dry hits :/

Hi everyone, Vaping newb here.

I bought an eleaf istick pico last saturday and I was very happy with it until this morning when I got my first few dry hits.

It comes with a melo 3 mini tank that has a 0.3 ohm ec head installed in it.

I primed the coil and tried again and still got dry hits, so I swapped the ec head with the extra one of 0.5 ohm that comes in the box thinking that the other head went bad.

I primed it and then tried again, to my surprise I still got dry hits.

My questions are:

1- Is it normal for the first ec head (0.3 ohm) to go bad after only 5 days ??
Given that I usually vape on 20~25 watts and I consumed only 30 ml of e-liquid.

2- Changing from 0.3 ohm to 0.5 ohm, should I vape on the same wattage I used to vape on ??

3- Just to make sure, priming the coil means I should drop a few droplets of the e-liquid into the ec head and in the four cotton holes around it ?

4- How long should I wait after priming the coil to start vaping ?

Thanks for having the patience to read all this

bad coil?

.3 coil>30-80w
.5 coil>30-100w

Yes, and let it also sit in a filled tank for a little bit (10 minutes or so)

Hint>Start at lower wattage and work your way up to the desired wattage works best on new coils

I googled melo 3 mini tank and it looks like their coils are vertical. Well IMO vertical coils suck to begin with. In a lot of cases the wicking is too tight and if its cotton it just gets tighter cause the juice expands the cotton so your choking the wicking thus dryhits. I don't own a melo but you could take a pin and poke holes throughout the cotton from the top to loosen it some and maybe even try to remove some of the cotton(if its cotton and not a mystery material) with tweezers. You'd have to do that with a new dry head, using a used head would make it more difficult but it can be done.

In my defence, I was left unsupervised ^^

What whiskey and alter said ^^

try putting pin holes in the cotton on the sides before priming helps wick it quicker

...letting it sit before you start vaping is important as it lets cotton get saturated start lower wattage and work up In increments breaks it in gently
