really need help with gurgling / leaking at the mouth piece

Hi,

Brand new to vaping after smoking for 15+ years. My boyfriend and I are both trying to switch over. We picked up the exact same setup each at a local vape store. He wants to go to box mods eventually, I want to stick with pens because I want something I can carry easily in my pocket.

The battery is a Vision Spinner, the tank/mouthpiece I think is an Evod, but I'm not 100% sure. The coil is actually labelled Apollo. Sorry, I don't know all the terms that well.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with it for starting out with, but my issue is that mine is gurgling like crazy, and leaking. We bought them on Monday. My boyfriend's does not do this. I will clean it out when it gets bad, then a few hours later the mouthpiece is filled with drops of liquid again, and it's practically like licking a lollipop, or worse if the liquid I'm using is bitter. I was expecting some condensation but it's quite large drops of liquid that seem to wick up into the mouthpiece and it is really grossing me out.

We're using the same juices, the same setup, and I think I'm using the device correctly, though it took me awhile to figure out how to use it vs. smoking a cigarette.

Based on the advice from a friend who has been vaping for a few years (but he uses a box mod and started with one), I bought an Evod glass clearomizer for relatively cheap just to see if that will help, and an Aerotank Mini kit if that doesn't work. I also bought a pack of Kangertech coils to see if swapping the coil out will help. These will all be here tomorrow, but in the meantime, I'm super confused.

What am I doing wrong? Is this normal?

Could your coil be going bad, and also is you battery all the way charged? Another reason it may do that is over filling the juice and it getting down the center tube inside the tank.

Hi there, looks to me like it's an EVOD single coil clone. If your boyfriend's is the same setup it's likely one of two things. The seal on the coil could be bad (or perhaps not screwed all the way into the base). The most common I find for new folks starting though is they're drawing too hard (like a cigarette) and that floods this style of tank due to the restricted airflow. Flip it upside down, blow through the mouthpiece (have a tissue handy by the air hole). That'll clear the flood. Then just try hitting it again, but don't take super strong draws.

@Whiskey, yes, it happens when the battery is charged, like it will happen within a few hours first thing in the morning with pretty limited use since I'm at work, and since I turn it off when I'm not using it, I don't think the battery is running down that quickly. I don't know if the coil is going bad but I would hope not since I've only been using it for 2 days, ha! But I am getting 5 coils tomorrow so I might swap it out anyway just to be sure. I'm definitely not overfilling the tank though so I don't think that's it.

@RBVapes, it does seem like blowing on it like you suggested might have worked for now, so maybe that's what it was o_O I think it might be a combination of both the coil and me just still getting used to it and not drawing off of it properly.

Do you think either of the new clearomizers will help? I think my other problem is just not really having a firm understanding of how the internal parts work, so I think if I research that some I might understand a bit more.

Thank you!

Those kind of tanks like to do that. In the "old days" they said you can over tighten when you change coils, or refilling, 'causing the seals to break. I used to have similar tanks, same problems. If possible, get a Kanger Protank 2 or 3 instead. I never had problems with these.

I always had problems like that with similar pen style devices over the course of time. I found there is a variety of things that can cause this issue (all mentioned above) and the only sure fire fix to stop it for good I found was to upgrade devices.

Ahh, that's lame. Honestly money isn't really an issue - I mean, we both smoked American Spirits, a pack or more a day. They're expensive and we were easily spending upwards of $500/month on cigarettes between us, so spending a few hundred on this is really no biggie if it'll inevitably cause our monthly cost to drop.

That being said, I did buy what I bought because it's what I wanted. Lol. I guess is there maybe something better quality that is still the pen style? I don't want a box... or at least I don't think I do, maybe my mind will change if I get one. I do think the vape shop was pretty limited. It was either this or one other pen style, or moving to a box. But I'm happy to look at other pen style ones if it'll be better and stop this!! :D

ALSO! I decided I couldn't wait for my new coils to be delivered tomorrow so I went back to the vape store and picked up 2. My problem is now fixed, or at least it hasn't been happening for the last 2 hours or so!

I will look into it. I'm totally willing to buy whatever will work!

I used to really like my Evods. It's pretty easy to overfill, or get liquid in the center tube. It's also pretty easy to over tighten those little buggers. The condensation in the drip tip is kind of normal, though excessive amounts, no. Are you storing this on it's side for lengths of time? I'd have that happen with leaking/flooding.

It does take some time to get used to it all, for sure, but once you get the initial kinks worked out, I think you're really going to love it. The Protanks 2 or mini that was recommended is a nice option for the Spinners. I have lots of Protank 2 minis, still use them, still love them.

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you! I don't think I'm overfilling but I might be getting a little in the middle. It's hard to tell for sure! The only thing is it doesn't usually start right away. It's generally like an hour or two after I fill and clean it out. Overtightening could definitely be an issue, I'll try to make sure I'm not.

I'm not storing it on its side - at work, I generally leave it standing straight up on my desk. Is this the best way to store it? Before I changed the coil yesterday, I did find that if I kept it on its side for long periods or if it was turned upside down, liquid would definitely fall through the mouthpiece, I think because of the flooding that @RBVapes was referring to.

Thank you everyone! I really do love it so far and I'm so glad my issue seems to have been resolved. The dripping/gurgling wasn't a major deterrent but it was super frustrating and confusing. I haven't had a cigarette since Monday and can already feel my smoker's cough subsiding (the main reason for switching - I'm 30 and it was really bumming me out to have developed one!).

As @Huckleberried mentioned, the Kanger Protank 2 (single coil) and 3 (dual coil) are excellent, definitely a step up from the Evod. As an upgrade, you can get a different bottom, that has a airflow control. The tanks are similar in size. However, not every juice likes to be vaped in the Protank 3, due to the dual coil heads, it heats the juice more. I still have my Protanks, and use them on rare occasions.

@unixchick I'm glad you seem to have it sorted out. To be clear there is nothing wrong with a pen style device some are really great but more often then not the tanks that are included with them are prone to flooding and can sometimes be a pain. As mentioned above by @Huckleberried and @Neunerball the protank 2 & 3 minis (but more so the 2) as well as the aspire nautilus mini are great tank upgrades that work well on most pen style devices and have really made a huge difference in the flavor and ease of use for tons of people.

Something else just occurred to me. When the juice level gets low, I remember the flooding happening. If you notice that's the case, either open it up, put it back together,or fill it up a bit. Just a possibility, but I'm glad it's been working better for you!

I think the solution is to get yourself a bona fide box mod and a better tank.

Don't be embarrassed, I too started with a pen and a crappy atomizer... most of us did when we started out, knowing little about vaping. I wound up giving mine away four weeks later because the airflow was nonexistent, and the battery (which I couldn't charge while vaping) didn't last, a mere 650 mAh... boo and hiss...

Very reputable mods that are 40-60W or more (some with temp control) are generally in the $35-75 range, depending on the brand, features, etc. Some very nice tanks which can handle temp control and sub ohm vaping can be as little as $15. Vapingcheap.com is a great place to get started, because they'll send you to websites that are running great deals and coupon codes. Just remember, Chinese websites are usually cheaper, but US sites will obviously send you your stuff faster.

Something like an eVic mini kit would be perfect for you. Small size, comes with a tank (because it's a "kit"), can do temp control with the included Ni and Ti coils, pass through charging, uses one 18650 batt, firmware upgradable, and can even be used as a mech mod!

(Coupon code: VC10 for 10% off)

And no, I don't work for Vapor DNA. I don't have one of these, but I probly will someday :).

When I had an EVOD tank, another thing that could cause flooding was the way you draw. If you kept your lips tight on the drip tip when you inhaled, it tended to flood the tank.

Sorry to be blunt, but the evod and vision spinner are just not ideal. Check out the ipv D2 or the eleaf istick 50 to replace the spinner. Then get the kanger sub tank mini to replace the evod. Don't waste your time with the protanks. You'll save money and frustration with my recommended equipment and you'll be good to go for a while. With mediocre equipment, you'll always be wanting more and you'll be plagued with dealing with bullshit from "old school" vaping gear. I wish someone told me what to buy when I first started. I also wish there was equipment like I'm recommending available then as well. Tell your BF to get The box mod of his choice and a Tobeco Super Tank. Just thank me later.

Excellent suggestions - but be aware if you don't/can't do lung hits, the Tobeco Super Tank will gurgle....

I was gonna say, that's a way overpriced istick 50. In fact, screw the 50, get the 100watt for $33, shipped from Texas, free shipping.

Don't get the 100. You stated you don't want a box mod, so dont get something as large as the istick 100. The Istick 50 has a built in battery which is simple, the istick 100 does not.

Also, buy your juice from Mech Sauce. Use 12MG strength with the Kanger, or use 18+ MG with the evods initially while you're getting off the cigs. Get either 70/30 ratio or 80/20. They're cheap as fuck and just as good as any other juice. I personally think it's better than most all others. Other people may have opinions different than mine, but they're wrong and I'm right. I promise. I sold tobacco for many years, and now I'm just really good at selling against it.
