Trying to help out my mom.

Hey. I've quit smoking via vaping, but it was a while ago. My mom is still smoking, and I want to help her quit with vape, but whenever I give her my device to try, it ends with her coughing. Which I guess makes sense, my device is an old sigelei 100w with a pretty basic rda (been wanting to upgrade but can't afford it) she ended up coughing at ~60 and ~20watts (6ml 95% vga juice).

I have an old iTaste VV V3.0 that I'm hoping to give her to hopefully help her stop smoking. I have no gear for the device, so suggestions about tanks/coils and juices to get would be welcome. I have experience moving from smoking to vaping myself but that was years ago and my story is somewhat unusual, so I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks.

Welcome to VU!

It sounds like she may need a really tight draw MTL clearomizer to start with using a 1.8 or 1.5ohm coils.
I've used the Kangertech and the Aspire, both are extremely good starter attys.

The Aspire ETS clearomizers are very inexpensive as well as the BVC coils.

Yep, I quit smoking with an inexpensive aspire, they work nice.

I always used a Protank mini with my vv3. I absolutely loved that combo. I'm still a MTL vaper, though the type of airflow I like is quite different from then. You might start her at a mid level of maybe 50pg/50vg, to allow a good flow of juice to the wicking, without it dry hitting too quickly with higher vg. As far as what mg to try her on, maybe depends on how much, or little, she smokes. Maybe try 12mg, then work up or down from there.

I agree there --- A 50/50 blended juice will be required to use the BVC coils. They will not wick a high VG blend. You can go a higher PG blend and be fine, but not a higher VG blend. You can also get away with a 24mg NIC juice in these clearomizers. I was a 1.5 pack a day smoker for 20+ years and I started at 12mg NIC using these clearomizers.

Yep again.....:D

Used 24mg nic for about three months, then went to 18.....you certainly don't feel like smoking a cigarette after a few puffs of 24mg.....which I would recommend to start with.

60w, 20w, or 95% Vg would certainly make ME cough! Try 7-8w, 70% PG, and if she's smoked strong cigarettes for a long time, at least 12mg nicotine.

Hi and welcome-
What a great son to want your mom to quit smoking! The point is She has to want to stop smoking! I quit a 30+ year love affair with cigarettes by buying 2 Mistic Bridge kits, some Haus eliquids and cartridges instead of packs of cigarettes over 2 years ago, just to try to quit smoking cigarettes! I dual used for 2 weeks, while cutting out cigs, set a quit date and with those kits and will power I quit cigarettes!
I have used the iTaste VV and you need 2 of those- battery life is crap and what will she use while that is being charged?
I used the Kanger Evod 2 glass tanks, and the Kanger Pro tank 3 mini with the iTaste vv

Rocky mountain is great fast free shipping if spending $15.00 shipping- 30% off code- turkey
She will cough! Dual using makes you cough, plus you are coughing from clearing out your lungs! Take lighter drags and drink water in between.
Using your sub ohm gear will make her cough! Hell I even coughed with the 1.5 coils for a bit.
Another great kit that I used was the Joyetech eCabs- buy 2 kits! Very small and cigarette like! I used these kits for many months!

Best of luck to you and your mom!

Welcome!

Something like the Aspire Nautilus mini would pair nicely with the itaste VV3. As someone who has only used high VG - ever - it will work fine with high VG. The Kanger ProTank 2 would be a good choice as well. But they aren't seen all that much at this point - if I'm right it's been discontinued - and I feel the Nautilus is a more foolproof (leak proof) design compared to a ProTank.

As far as the coughing goes: Well what you tried to hand off to her is probably overkill. Something like a Nautilus is more of a low volume device. You didn't say how long or how much she smoked, but heavy smokers are a lot of times gonna go onto hacking fits trying to introduce something new into their damaged lungs like vaping.

Initially the worst thing she could do is try to inhale vaping the same way she smokes. As a 30 year 2 PAD smoker I sure as hell couldn't do that when I started. Basically I had to un-learn everything I did automatically when I smoked cigarettes. While my lungs were clearing out in those first months it was: suck the vape into my mouth, as far as the back of the throat - and stop. You still get nicotine anyway through the mucous linings in your mouth and throat - you don't have to lung inhale.

It just takes time for some of us to be able to lung inhale anything else after decades of smoking. Ask her to inhale it like a cigar instead. A lot of cigarette smokers get what that means. Of course I can lung inhale now. But after 30 years of smoking? That wasn't happening right away when I started vaping.

Yep. Coughing I'm afraid is part of the quitting package. My husband 2 PAD smoker for 45+ years. He coughed and coughed. Went back to the smokes. Coughed and coughed. Back to the vape (he finally settled on a Pico with a nautilus mini at 1.8ohms) and a tobacco flavored juice at 18mgs finally made him realize he really didn't want those smokes at all. But coughing ...coughing ...finally in the past month he's stopped coughing shit up. And he quit about 2 months ago. So it takes time for the lungs to heal.

I just recently quit smoking myself. I really like the iStick Pico/Melo 3 mini kit. You can adjust the watts and the airflow very easily. But if she wants something that is extremely easy to work then Aspire makes one called PockeX. It is more for MTL vapors like many are that are just first trying to quit analogs. You just unscrew the top, fill the liquid to the fill mark, put top on and draw just like a cig. It is much nicer than the e-cigs such as Blu or what have you. Several of our Veterans here use the PockeX because it is more like a cig and it is small and convenient.
