Goblin v1.2 for folks that like them.

I read comments in more than a few threads about the various UD Goblins.

On the strength of those I took advantage of a closeout sale at Mt. Baker Vapor, and bought two.

Mebbe one would have been enough.

I have to admit that I am judging them in comparison to my Augvape Merlin. My first and up to now only RTA. It sets a very high bar.

By comparison the Goblin is an incredible PITA to build, wick, assemble, and fill.

It gives good vape once you make it through all that. I built it (I'm a flavor chaser) with two 2.5mm - 28ga. round Kanthal - eight turn spaced coils which ended up at 0.85ohms. Excellent flavor. And it's easy to see that it wouldn't disappoint a cloud chaser either.

Thank gods for the 5ml tank that comes with it as an extra. At least I don't have to go through the hassle of filling it very often.

I'm not sorry I bought them, although I might not have gotten two had I known what a chore they are to build. I'd rather save the bucks for another Merlin.

If they are to your taste the closeout at MBV is $4.99 each.

They're also dumping the UD Goliath at $9.99 each.

I got a couple of them too, but I haven't built one yet.

ETA: I see I goofed the thread title. Supposed to be "... for folks that like them."

Duh. I'll see if I can get a mod to fix it.

ETA 2: Be advised. The cheap bastards didn't include a drip tip with this variant. It takes a standard 510 size.

I love my V1.2 Goblin. Flavorwize it's one of the best RTA's I've ever used. At that price I'm tempted to grab another one.

If it only wasn't such a PITA to fill :gaah:

Single coil RTA the Exo rta is a decent vape for price , not a fantastic made tank ,but nice flavourful vape quality from it ,
The Taifun gtv3 5ml and the mini 2.5ml also great single coil RTA,s jfc ,top fill ,
can get a deck reducer for more mtl an shut down to 1 airflow open or wide open.
Either way it still provides decent Flavours ,
The SX clones of it also almost a 1.1 to Original an go for 18 USD , deffo worth looking at low power , low juice consumption , I have tanks ranging from 30mm down to 18 mm RDA ,bf, an such and use daily a Taifun gtv3 mini for easy pocket carrying on an Ijust2 mod ,
Then leave my larger tanks an dna,s at home

The manufacturing quality of both the Goblins and the Goliaths I got from MBV's closeout sale seems to be of a high standard. Threads can be a little finicky to start without cross threading because the design doesn't make them easy to line up, but they are smooth once started properly. Both are giving good vape.

Yeah. There's lots of good tanks out there, with various pros & cons, quirks & character.

I only started this thread to share the news of the closeout sale at MBV, and mention what a PITA building the Goblin is, for those who didn't already know.

So it wouldn't be a surprise to them if they did what I did and jumped on two of them at that price.

I'm not unhappy with the Goblins. I don't regret getting them. I built the second one, and, knowing what to expect, it wasn't quite as much of a PITA, but still a design with some very stupid choices.

I've done both the Goliaths now, and they are a little less of a pain. Same issue with getting the threads started, though. AND... I do think that whoever thought it was a good idea to cut the juice wells into the barrel threading of the build decks so that the wicking almost wants to get caught in the threads when you put it back together needs to find another line of work. Both the Goblin and the Goliath share that brain fart.

At the price, I'm not sorry I bought any of them, but if I had paid MFRP, or anything close, I would have been righteously pissed off about it.

$5 and $10 was about the right price point.

I have a feeling that having started with the Merlin as my baseline for comparison it is going to take a pretty well thought out design to impress me. And the Merlin only cost me $15.

The version one Goblin is many generations behind the Merlin. The Goblin was one of the first "subohm" type rebuild-able tanks. I build mine to 0.4 ohm with a regulated device at 30-40 watts it's a good vape. It's always loaded and ready to go as my backup while my two Merlins set on the shelf.

Are you that unhappy with the Merlins that you never use them?

Where the hell I been? I have the mini, v1, v2 and v3, but never knew of this 1.2. Interesting.

I was also a fan of the Merlin, for flavor and ease, but had too many seeping, then flat out full tank leaks.

We have two Merlins which we purchased recently. So far, except for a rare occasional small drool (And the times I forgot to close the JFC when I filled one. Yeah. I know. They tell you to be sure to close it first, and I always try, even though I don't understand why it leaks when I don.t I'm a believer now, though.) we haven't had a problem with them leaking. And mine spends a lot of time both vertical and on it's side with the JFC open.

From what I have read it was more of a problem with the earlier versions, and also wicking seems to affect it. Maybe so far we've just been lucky.

I haven't used them for several months now, though I've been thinking about rebuilding one and giving it a go again. I did use one for a long time and I love the draw/airflow, easy to build and fill. For me(I've never heard anyone else mention it) the Merlin produces a flavor of it's own that I grew tired of, kinda like the flavor certain wire types have.

Hi Huck:wave:

Yeah, the original non mini that actually holds less juice:giggle: It's a pain to build, wick and fill but vapes really good.

These v1.2s shipped with an extra, longer glass section, and an extended chimney, which lets you pump up their juice capacity to over 5 ml.

That's plenty big enough for me. By the time I vape 5+ mls of anything I'm more than ready for a change. I keep several of my "daily go-to vape" favorites in a sequence and rotate through them so I don't get burned out by any one, and then have a couple other tanks on eGo style batteries of flavors that I don't vape very often, sort of on standby, if I want a quick but temporary break.

I never used the chimney extension. It's always been my experience that you lose flavor with longer chimneys, YMMV. I think it's one of the reasons why newer tech has grown in diameter and not so much in height.

"Longer" is a relative term. In this case, it is relative to the other chimney which came with the v1.2, which is downright stubby.

Holding the Goblin with the "longer" chimney installed side-by-side with both my Merlin and my new Goliath (I have all three in front of me as I type), it would seem to be comparable in length to each of those.

The Merlin and the extended Goblin are virtually identical in height of tank overall, and the Goliath is just a smidgen taller that the two of them.

I have noticed that some RTA reviews have lauded tanks with taller chimneys for their 'cooler' draw, but then at the same time I have seen tanks lauded for their warmer draw. Airflow volume and control has been praised or not on the same basis. So I guess this is another one of those personal preference areas.
