Trying A new technique on one of my mods. What do you Think?

I made this for my personal collection about a month and a half ago when I made the Others. One of the side panels had a crack in it from the beginning which started to spread. Instead of just filling it with CA glue I decided to try a new to me technique (Freehand Inlay). So I crushed some stone and using a dremel cut out some grooves for the stone to sit in tried 3 types of adhesive to see what work best for me. Then sanded flush.

This is how it came out. Later on I am going to try on another an Inlay with a set pattern. So I am curious about what you fine people think about it. Don't worry you can not hurt my feelings. Do you think it looks to gaudy, messy, busy, takes away or adds to wood. Or just plain hate it. On the other hand do you like or love it. But can give me some tips on how to improve on it? Thanks for viewing.

using the crushed technique I think it would look great on a darker wood to bring out the color not so much IMHO on this mod maybe a dark stain on the whole mod to bring out the lines?

Thanks for the input. I think your right it probably would look better on darker wood. Unfortunately I am not using stain on any of my mods now. But I do have some darker exotic woods I could try it on.

I so since this was an experiment I'd be glad to take it off your hands at a steep discount. I would sacrifice and take a hit for the vaping community if needed..

But honestly I love that look and have been wanting a fully wooden bodied mech. How much would you charge?

I think it looks great ... adds another visual dimension to it.

I do tend to agree with MSZ though ( which is kinda scary, lol ), I think it might stand out even better with a darker wood selection, at least for that particular type of stone anyway.

One question though, how does it feel? Totally subjective of course and probably moot if the stone is fully inset into the wood, which it looks like it is, but was curious if you felt any difference.

I actually really like that :).

I don't personally think it looks gaudy, or takes away from the look of the wood, I think it adds some character to it. If I had a choice between plain wood, and this, I would probably choose this.

Thanks everyone for the great comments much appreciated. Sorry I did not answer sooner but my laptop just gave up the ghost. And then my backup laptop did the same all within 2 days. I think my house may be possessed. So now I am forced to type on a kindle which I hate.
Anyhow to answer your question @NGAHaze it feels very smooth. Although because of the different adhesives used some of the areas have a little pitting. But that can be fixed by another application.
It raises my interest though about leaving some of it proud of the surface inconjunction with pitted areas to give it more of stone stuck in a piece wood look. That is for the future though as it is going to involve a lot of hand sanding to get everything flush and smooth.

No input or advice, but that is a bad-ass looking one of a kind mod. Nice mod on the mod.

That's killer! I love it!
It's a stabilized look but with some texture! I think playing with different colors and sizes of media on the inlays will help you to perfect this, but definitely keep moving forward with this idea!

It would probably make the stone pop more on a darker mod but still looks great. Very nice job!

It looks good Sonor.Great solution to the cracked wood problem, and something that has a lot of potential.Different media and colors.I think patterns and inlays would look great,or maybe logos or someones name.

Personally, I like the color of the stones with the mod colors.

However, it's the pattern I don't love all that much. I would rather see it look like something that grew into the tree, or followed a pattern of the cores of the veins in the wood. If you ever split open wood that had something that grew into it, or split box elder open, you would get what I mean.

I like the concept but not the execution.
@MrScaryZ is right about the darker wood, it would definitely help to blend things.
You are on to something, keep playing around with it.
Thanks for sharing.

Witch adhesive did you use??Great work by the way.

I tried it with plain CA glue, CA gel, Fast Cure 5 minute epoxy, And Slow Cure 30 minute epoxy. The one that seemed to work the best for me was the slow cure. Mixing the stone with it first and then pressing it in the channel. Then letting it cure overnight before sanding flush.

I like the organic look of it. I'm sure an intentional design would look great, too. But, I like the organic accidental look better.

How about using padauk or ipe for dark woods, come to think of it walnut or cherry would work also. Maybe even driftwood /silvery color wood would make the stone inclusions pop.
