Did you also read that the moronic hospital totally screwed the pooch in protecting its nurses? The only reason its spread so gas is the traditions in that part of Africa says they have to handle, clean, and care for the body before burial.. They have almost zero hygiene to boot. ANY modern hospital following the proper protocols should have ZERO problems.. I see a HUGE lawsuit coming..

And, I did say 'might'..

I have a rule in life I'd like to share with you guys...

Whenever I'm confronted with a problem (and Ebola clearly is a problem for all of us), I ask myself the following questions:

1/ What can I do about it?
2/ Can I do something about it now?

If the answer to 1/ is no, then I forget about it. No need to fret over what's beyond your control: all you achieve if you do is get stressed out for nothing.

If the answer to 1/ is yes but the answer to 2/ is no, then I put a reminder to do something about the problem at a later time in my agenda, when my efforts are useful, then I forget about it for now for the same reason as above.

If the answer to 1/ and 2/ is yes, then I do something about it, and I don't get stressed out because whatever I do has effects on the problem.

Now then, what can I do to avoid Ebola? Nothing. Zilch. Nada, Zero. There are medical professionals who are qualified to treat Ebola patients, there are epidemiologists who are qualified to assess the risk to the population in general and to individuals, there are clever virologists who can devise vaccines/medications, and I ain't neither. There ain't nobody around my parts who's sick of Ebola yet, and the aforementioned professionals are already hard at work to ensure that the situation stays that way.

So it stands to reason that I do nothing at all about it and forget about it at this time. @SMOKIE, I suggest you do the same, else you'll die of anxiety before you even get a chance to be infected by Ebola :)

question: how could someone "accidentally" put a booger in your bottle of juice? that sounds premeditated to me.

I seem to recall a bottle of juice that came from a vendor I used to frequent that was sent out with a green snot like substance in it. That thread and photo of said "booger" should still be in VF.
I do know the name of the vendor but will not be outing him.....

Actually, the spread of Ebola in Texas is from "lack of education" and improper personal protective equipment. I belong to a nursing forum and this is a very hot subject. I think and believe we can stop this with proper education. The nurses necks were exposed and they were told to wrap surgical tape around their necks. WTF are these people thinking?

I'm actually afraid of cockroaches and scabies.

Now, I'm afraid of "boogers" being pawned off on me thru the mail>

Artemis, I totally agree with what you have said about the nurses training.

Just so you know I have actually been trained in all types of safety gear. I have an OSHA card and I have had complete HAZMAT training. Watching what the proper procedures as shown on the nightly news has me Horrified. They are taking half assed measures at best.

By comparison, BOOGERS are completely safe.

Unless there are yellow or red specks in them as well as a hair or two:D

But the only thing I would like to know is, where is the babes thread Whiskey?

the problem with that, is that they "thought" the tape would keep germs out. She followed safety procedures..

Like I said, half assed safety proceedures at best.

The trainers were most likely using tin foil hats to protect themselves.

When the Ebola Zombie Apocalypse strikes, I'm heading for his house.
Err, wait, I'd have to fly in an incubation tube with wings...nvm...

Nurses in safety gear got Ebola, why wouldn't you?

http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_16029/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=9ESPptFH

One of the important parts:

WHO'S MOST AT RISK NOW?

More than 70 other workers who might have been exposed while treating the Liberian patient, Thomas Eric Duncan, at Texas Health Presbyterian are being monitored for symptoms of Ebola.

Meanwhile, Frieden offers optimism about the people in Dallas who interacted freely with Duncan before he was hospitalized.

There are 48 people being watched because of their potential exposure, including the family he was staying with when he got sick. They have passed symptom-free through the time period when infected people most often come down with the illness.

As they approach the ends of their various 21-day incubation periods, Frieden said, "it's decreasingly likely any will develop Ebola."

Yep.. right up until the time you realize that you have to TOUCH YOUR SKIN to get the tape off...

There were so many changes to the 'procedures' that Nurses were confused and the bosses told them to 'do what you think is best'..

Not to mention the HOURS he was left in the ER waiting room.. Or the Hazmat left to fester in the corner.. Or the NOT wearing of proper foot gear.. or the about 18 other things the hospital did absolutely WRONG. The CDC was correct the first time, any 'properly trained' hospital staff and this should have been a non-issue.

What stunned me was the statement I heard yesterday on the news. When asked why they don't just close airspace to keep this contained they stated "it would cause emotional trauma" WTF???? I guess our trauma is less when they fly infected people to our country! Our government is being run by wimps!

White House Homeland Security adviser Lisa Monaco, who has no professional medical expertise, was named by the White House as the point person in charge of coordinating the government’s response to the Ebola outbreak.

U.S. ARMY WARNS OF POTENTIAL 'AIRBORNE' EBOLA
Virus could be transmitted by means other than contact
On page 117 of the handbook, in a chapter discussing “Viral Hemorrhagic Fever” (VHF), a category of viruses that includes Ebola, USAMRID says: “In several instances, secondary infections among contacts and medical personnel without direct body fluid exposure have been documented. These instances have prompted concern of a rare phenomenon of aerosol transmission of infection.”

Page 117 continues to specify: “Therefore, when VHF is suspected, additional infection control measures are indicated.”

It's all very simple: Scientists do not run the world. Those who do, are more afraid of bad PR and stockholders than public health.

Plus, nobody "of importance" has been infected yet, so it's SSDD in our woefully understaffed and under-trained medical system.

Unless you're rich, of course. There's a whole different medical system for those folks. The best and brightest doctors and staff are not going to be working in a 2nd rate hospital. ;-)
