2nd coil build

Hello all. Just wanted to share my 2nd attempt at a coil. First coil worked fine. 26g kanthal had great taste.

This go around....twisted 26g kanthal. .58 ohms. Gonna wick and test now!

What diameter how many wraps and what was the end resistance?

I'm expecting a small diameter and a good few wraps for that. 22g is quite a high resistance D

Can't really tell which MOD it is but it looks like a single battery low wattage mod.
Using 22g twisted parallel for low wattage is the worst advice I can think of.
It will have too low resistance and too much mass for for it to be responsive with the amount of power your mod can supply.

To start with I would suggest sticking with what you started with and try dual coils.

As for your twisted coil, it seems too loosely wrapped to me.
When you twist, twist more, a lot more.

I was also given the advice on twisting..needs more twist. My mod is an ipv d3. Goes up to 80w. I ran this same setup with dual coils of the same type. It did no heat up well at all. I was running at 60w.

This is my only mod for now, so I need to build accordingly. Was thinking of running regular kanthal coils non twisted and parallel.

Looks you and I areon the same page, Dave. I just made the same coil x2. Coming in @0.235 ohms.

I'm thinkin I'm gonna need a magnifying glass about the size of a dinner plate if I try to use wire smaller than 26. My eyes are about shot. When I hit age 40, 40 hit back. HARD. :(

For 80w and lower I would suggest picking up some 26g N80, its relativly low in resistance but it ramps faster then its Knthal counterpart. It also will ramp up faster then 22g due to less overall mass..
Try wrapping a 5 wrap with 26g or 28g and then wrapping another strands in between with 6 wraps. use this as a dual coil and try it at 60w. Up the wattage to your liking but you wont need more then the amount that device can give to get them hot.

Thanks for the advice @raymo2u . I saw another person saying that n80 is best for flavor too! What's the life like on it compared to kanthal?

With single strand coils you will get about a month out of it, SS will give better results but if your looking for like expectancy try some Kidneypuncher SS, with proper care you can easily get 3 months out of a single strand SS.

the looser twists will give more clouds. I do some coils that way as well.
Coil looks good though.
LOL If you are into coil building, don't worry about coil life. You'll be tossing them out just to make room on your atty for your new build. For example, if I said.. Try that same twisted build, but.. wrap the wire with 32ga stainless steel between the twists.. (like the stripes on a candy cane).. how long would it take you to rip that coil out? LOL.
I have a tin can on my desk just to drop coils and wire bits into. Some I save in case I want to go back but its is really more fun to just build a new coil.

I dont think any metal actually makes flavor better or less if used correctly, some people are a bit more sensitive to the metals though and can actually taste them though but generally they just heat differently and need different amounts of current/voltage to reach the same effect...I prefer SS to all due to its quick ramp up and lower resistance.
