Regulated, Internal Mini Mod Question

Hi guys,

I am new to this and have been thinking about getting the Innokin cool fire 4 or another mini mod i.e. Target mini or mini volt. I have heard that these internal battery, regulated box mods are probably the safest route for a beginner.

The cool fire 4 seems to have the most safety features, including: low voltage warning, short circuit protection, and over discharge protection.

My question is - do these safety features gauruntee that this can't blow up in my face assuming proper use? In the rare case it did, would it be less catastrophic to my face due to the smaller size of the battery?

Also, are regulated box mods generally safer than pens or e-cigs since the battery can more easily vent and thus less likely to explode?

Sorry for worrisome questions - just trying to get some clarification.

Had a cool fire 4 plus decent mod not overly priced. Everyone has a different style of vaping mine had my cool fire constantly on charge. Good thing about it charged at one amp so only took about hour. Built-in battery mods are alot more convenient and cheaper to own. Are they safe yes but anything can fail. All mods have safety features some more than others. But misuse modified or disregarding user maunel can cause problems. Never took a ego apart would say mite be vented not sure. Sure they have some short of safety feature built in even if its just a heavier wrap on them. Dont miss treat them but never say never.

Cool. Do you know if the batteries used in these devices are IMR / hybrid chemistry batteries or are they ICR?

Interesting question! I guess, for very small/thin devices, they use LiPo (Lithium polymer) batteries.

IMO an external battery is safer.....

Regardless the type. with a fixed battery you just don't know what is in there. Sure they might tell you IMR, ICR or LiPo.. But does THAT tell you the amp load it can handle. As we are seeing with those hover boards and even cell phones... It matters.

With all the BS rewraps floating around, I think it is much safer for a beginner to start with an internal battery

@bwc2q88 the coolfire uses a internal lipo cell. The way the mod is shaped didn't think it was a pack. Its not a imr. It is a lithium polymer li-po usually they are a pack like what you get with a drone. I have two that came with mine only 350mah pretty small when compaired with what is in a mod. Coolfire is rated at 2000mah. Not to bad but not that great but dose have 2amp quick charge. So lithium polymer li-po usually used in remote control cars etc made up of dry chemical.18650 imr is what I use lithium - ion (li - ion) made of electrolytic gel. Same stuff in electrolytic compositors one of its purposes is to hold a charge.. Safer no, li - po packs much safer than li -ion, but li - po have much shorter life. Even if you pulled a li - po pack out of a mod it should be labled with its information on it. Unfortunately coolfire cant be serviced so its trash after cell dies 200 - 300 cycles or charges. The only 18650 batteries I buy is mxjo 35amp 3000mah. Purchased two imren 50amp 2600mah got a good deal 50amp 18650 is bs no such thing but they aren't on rewrap list. If you want a good internal battery mod the og evic vtc 5000mah. Dont let 18650 batteries scare you off I personally would get a two battery mod especially if I had the money.

What makes you think mod makers are immune from crappy batteries...

I got my wife an internal battery mod. Because they are safe and simple....

I still think the external battery is safer.....

But the main reason I prefer the external battery is I don't have to worry about battery state..... battery gets low i change it. Not look for charge point. And possibly need a second mod to use during charging. Yeah I know you can charge while vaping... I can do it with my pico it's easier to just change the battery.

Also I can see and feel the battery. Can't do that if it's sealed up.

Well, if something goes wrong, the company can't claim you used the wrong battery and refuse to honor your warranty
If a company uses bad batteries people will talk about how crappy the mod is and they wont sell.
The two biggest mod makers that use internal batteries are Innokin and Eleaf and I don't think either of them have any troubles selling mods
