Big Tobacco really doesn't want the feds to regulate e-cigs (?)

This is from VICE News. Now, I've been likin' on VICE TV since they started the channel but I don't get this one as it counters what I considered to be a basic tenet regarding the new FDA regs: Big Tobac Digs It. Hmmm ... not necessarily? I'm not buying it, VICE, but I still love you guys!

Here's the link.

Well, BT did write to the FDA requesting regulation. Maybe the author of that little article is unaware of that little bit of info.

BT is fighting the FDA mostly because of the inclusion of regulations on their flavored cigars. The date that effects us vapers, also effects these flavored cigars. But the letter supplied to the FDA by BT, pre-regulation, called for the regulation of vaping, not in opposition.

BTW, @SailCat. It's nice to see you still around. I thought maybe you were done with the forum. Haven't seen anything from you for awhile.

BT has some very good reason to like the new regs. Reason #1: the new regs favor people smoking over vaping. Reason #2: the new regs favor deep pockets and closed systems in vaping, the only products BT has seemed to be able to muster. Reason #3: the new regs favor less flavor and less flavor options, also very friendly to BT's lackluster flavors.

It's jolly good to see you as well, my delightfully opinionated friend. I've been busy with other projects which have evidently made me conspicuous by my absence. I was surprised it was noticed..

BT has some very good reason to like the new regs.

As I thought, Mr. Dodds!

While BT did oppose the FDA for their own selfish reasons, they are not our friends in this fight and we should not rely on their help.
As I see it in 2 years time, if nothing changes, the only e-cigs on the market will be BT e-cigs, either by manipulating the regulation or by abiding to it.

Big Tobacco understands that the future of the nicotine market is through vaporization. They also understand that the PTMA process is impossible to pass since they have never got a product through yet.
They also understand that the modified risk angle is surely a no go since it took Swedish match a decade and ten million dollars to get one brand of snus through and that was with fifty years of data from Sweden.

They also know that they lost our trust and money so what better way to try to gain it back then by saving Vaping.

They are our enemy but we need them right now. we can go back to being enemies after the deeming regs get taken down.

They are more likely to succeed then us (sending one guy in a bad suit), but we shouldn't relax and say "we're saved, BT is taking care of us", since the final outcome will not be in our favor.

Don't kid yourself. BT and the FDA coming to an agreement would be like China and India engaging in a discussion about the future of Myanmar. Myanmar would have little to no say. Any agreement BT and the FDA come to would likely NOT be in the vaping industry's best interest.
