Disturbing marks

Hey guys, Ive had my Noisy Cricket for over 5 months now, used daily with my trusty sets of married MXJO and a .46 dual 24ga Kanthal build. I was tearing apart the switch to clean it, and noticed what appeared to be a burn mark on the switch button. Not sure if its a burn or tarnish, but its a little concerning to me. I also noticed the bottom of the battery has some black marks, almost like its been arcing? I checked the inside of the mod for foreign materials, and its clean. The mod has never gotten overly hot (slightly warm under normal heavy use), nor have I had any venting issues. The batteries are only 3 months old and no issues with the wraps or anything. Ideas?

whenever youre using a substantial amount of power in mechanical mods, its pretty inevitable to get arc marks, which is what you have there.
whenever you remove cells to charge try getting a no.2 eraser to both the fire pin and the negative end of the cell... should come right off. after a while though when the cell gets enough of them marks that dont come off you wanna just replace the cell.
theres a bunch of reasons why it happens, good way to avoid it is to just build higher and keep the fire pin and threads clean at all times.
since i like to build low i just replace cells after a few months.
some people consider it extremely dangerous, i dont, not when kept in moderation anyway. use your best judgement and keep it safe.
also, im not a battery nazi or anything but a good rule of thumb at least for me when it comes to batteries is if the name on the battery isnt also a brand of television dont buy it.

I've been using the buy more crickets, buy extra switches, buy more batteries, buy the fatdaddyvapes.com 'upgrade kit' technique to make sure I have a clean safe set up available to me and I totally agree with everything martnargh just posted.

also i recommend you invest in some sunshine rags. theyre cheap and last a long time. ive had my bag for a few months and am only on my 2nd rag. they go a long way and dont have that lemon oil that most jeweler rags have which fucks with conductivity.
them rags clear that up better than the eraser do.

Erasers are a legitimate contact cleaning tool in electronics. They actually make special ones for electronics techs. Anytime a contact is opened and closed, you get arcing. Clean it more often and rock on.

I guess Ive never seen arcing on such a broad surface area before. Rather, instead of just a small arc point like my SMPL used to get, the arc marks on the Noisy Crickey are circular, encompassing the whole diameter of the switch. Almost like the entire switch was arcing all the way around, at every contact point. The SMPL uses thr same switch, and I never had that issue, just a small black arc point, usually dead center on the battery. When I disassembled the NC swith and saw that burn/blemish on the center pin, I got a little concerned.

i had this on a mod one time, dont remember which. what i did was sand down the edges on the firing pin and it minimized diameter of arcing.
when you rub on the contact does it feel like it has rough edges? mine did, uneven also.

Try adding a small amount of Deoxit Gold. Make sure the contacts are very clean first. This will eliminate most arcing.

Cricket run 8.4V on fresh batteries while Smpl does only 4.2. That's why arcing is more notable on a cricket. I clean it up on every change of cells. Make sure that your switch is always clean and dry. Even the condensation will turn the contact area black.

fire the NC in the dark sometime. You'll see it arc.
