Howdy!

Greetings from California! After smoking for 7 years I have finally made the full on switch to vaping. Made attempts to quit every way possible; chew, gum, lozenges, everything except prescription stuff. I tried vaping around 2011 with a kit that came with the little cartridges, the light up end, all that jazz. That thing was a pain to use, I gave it away, and ended up forgetting about vaping for years.

A work colleague of mine ended up showing me much further the technology is and how much easier/affordable vaping has become since the first time I tried. Long story short I have been smoke-free for well over a month, and honestly don't envision myself going back under any circumstances.

I've joined VU because while I have enjoyed the journey, I have been hitting some annoying speed bumps. At first I used a EgoOne, but that thing kept leaking all over the place. So I picked up a Kbox Mini 60w mod, and have been loving that thing. The tank I got for it is a Sense Herakles Plus. Now the first 0.4 ohm kanthal coil, the one that came with it, worked perfectly. I used that coil for 2 weeks with zero complaints. When I decided to replace it I put a drop of liquid in each hole, and one in the center to saturate, just as I did the first one. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, the whole 9 yards I've read on priming. I get poor flavor and harsh hits now, and headaches... Before I could hit 40-50 watts after breaking it in and getting a nice pleasant cloud. Now on the exhale my throat itches/hurts and feels like I shouldn't be vaping. I figured maybe I burned the coil, so I switched it out for another, and same outcome. I ordered the coils from the same place I bought the tank, a reputable retailer, so I don't think they are knockoffs or anything.

Anyways sorry for the long first post, I hope someone can provide a little insight on what I can do to fix this, I'm getting tired of throwing coils away and getting the same result :(

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

A lot of times you really need to turn the wattage on the mod down very low when starting with a new coil and slowly work your way up

Welcome to VU and hope you stay off the smokes :)

Hey thanks! Yeah I've read that its best to start off low with the new ones, I'll try it again and start off on the lowest possible and work my way up from there.

Maybe try poking a needle or tooth pick into the cotton on the side holes, sometimes I think they pack the cotton too tight, I put at least4 drops too on each hole, and I don't put any down the center, again let it sit for at least 15 minutes and start low like 15w and work your watts up 5 at a time slowly break in the coil. I vape between 25 and 30watts. Coils will have the watt range on the side of the coil.
What coils are you using?
I use Aspire Atlantis coils in my Sigelei X tank 1.0 ohm and I think those coils would work in the Herakles. There is a Coil forum in here and they give all the tanks that use the Aspire Atlantis coils.

Good luck-

Thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone, glad I found a helpful community I can be a part of

The needle trick definitely helped a bit, it is actually decent! I'm using the Sense 0.4Ω Kanthal Coils, with a wattage rating of 35-100w. The coil is completely saturated and not flooding or anything. Using 60pg/40vg. I think I might pick up a pack of the Atlantis coils just to try it out, maybe a local shop carries them nearby so I don't have to wait to order them, I'm going on a trip tomorrow so I'm trying to get this solved! Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes that trick has saved me some nasty burnt hits! I am glad that you are giving vaping another try, Congrats to you! I have been vaping for almost 2 years and it help me quit my 30+ year cig habit!
I think it is great that the Aspire Atlantis coils fit so many tanks, no need to buy all different coils, and I think the Atlantis are usually easier to find. I really like mine, but I vape those at 1.0 ohms- sometimes 0.5 too harsh for me. They last for weeks too, I actually take a qtip and clean out the inside of the coil, let it sit in cheap vodka overnite in a shot glass, qtip it again, let dry out and reuse for another week, maybe it could fix your not so bad coils for a bit.
Just don't give up on vaping- some trial and error, but you will catch on quick. You Tube reviewers can be helpful too, you can type in your coils and they will have hints and tricks. Same with tanks and mods you may be interested in!

Yeah everything is working perfect now, extremely thankful because I am going on that work trip... I guess that harshness is just how it is when a new coil is breaking in, or maybe I need to lower my nicotine level from 6mg to something lower if I am doing SubΩ. I ended up reading that Sense redesigned the Herakles Plus to NOT accept the Atlantis coils. Either way I picked up an Atlantis v2 before the trip just to be safe.

Anyways I guess I have one last question to ask before I venture out into the main forums. In photography we have a thing called LBA (Lens Buying Addiction) and I ended up getting what I will call JBA (Juice Buying Addiction)... I ended up getting excessive amounts of juice that I don't particularly like, for example because I was a menthol smoker, I bought minty juices and other flavors I ended up not enjoying. In those I used maybe 2ml out of 120ml. Since none of my friends like that type, is there any outlet on these forums where I can give them to someone who could get use out of them, rather than letting them go to waste or throwing away? I saw a Pay-It-Forward thread and all, but idk if that is the right outlet. I'd rather send them to someone who is in need, if anyone knows anyone. Just don't know if its weird to offer opened bottles up for free or whatnot.

I am reading more about the Herakles Plus and don't know if those Atlantis coils will work. The Plus is supposedly a newer design with newer designed coils. Well you need a back up tanks and I hope you like the Atlantis V2- I have the Sigelei XTank and the Melo 3 and those use the Atlantis coils. I try to get tanks that use the same coils so I am not buying different coils for different tanks. Saves time and money. Yes try lowering the nic to 3mgs and I use a 40pg/60vg blend , with 1.0 ohms coil at 25-30watts. I have the Nebox that uses SSOCC coils at 0.5 and they can be a little harsh, but love the Nebox!
I do not know about vaping forward your juice- maybe even your vape shop could put you in touch with a needy person, I am sure someone here has more experience with giving away juice than me.
Good luck on your trip!
