My CoilMaster kit and wire/cotton came in today and it's time to learn how to build. After watching a few videos and reading up a bit, I got down to it. Didn't come out exactly as planned, but it worked. I'm just happy for that.

builds 008.jpg builds 009.jpg I was going for a .5 build, however, I didn't read close enough and came out with a .9. Forgot that I would have to go with a dual coil for the .5. Also, I think I didn't use enough cotton. But hey, I'm on my way!

Not going to mention that I flubbed 3 coils before I finally figured out how to mount this thing. Good thing my kit came with 10 ft of wire to learn with!

It also looks like I need to make more room on my vaping table.

Hey, that looks like a good first coil bud. @BigNasty is right. It only gets easier. I started doing regular coils and now I'm making twisted and clapton coils. Soon as my new wire comes in I'll be making my first fused claptons. I never thought I'd be doing diy at all much less doing more advanced builds. It gets easier. Just enjoy it and have fun. Welcome to the fun side of vaping my friend.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

For first coils, not bad.
Only gets easier.

Congrats! Look good too. Keep practicing and you'll be building crazy stuff in no time

I sure hope both of you are right!

It was kinda funny that I ran into the owner of a local vape shop on my way home from the post office with my new gear. He told me to drop by and he'd show me a few things, hopefully a less time consuming way to do what I was trying to do that took me 3 hours to get right.

Really looking forward to learning this skill. Time flew by while I was building this one and I have to learn how to do it quicker before next semester starts and I won't have that kinda time to spend on it...oh who am I kidding, I'll make time!

For a first coil I must say thats pretty damn clean and well placed, there is alot of potential if this is your starting point! Time, practice, and some wire and you will feel more comfortable with challenging yourself and then it becomes a time where you look forward to getting to....quality time by yourself using your hands...its magical ;)

Keep it up, I suspect Ill see great things from you in the future :D

First time I nailed a Clapton coil I was so pumped. Now I bust em out in a few minutes instead of what felt like days.
My first coil was a 28g 5 wrap dual coil on a Hobo rda...3 days later I was hand wrapping fused claptons with 28g only and using a dark horse rda...I build a bit differently nowadays but its a process of learning and growing....

So after a few lessons on building from the local vape shop owner I've moved on to the double coil. Not bad if I say so myself. I finally hit around my goal of a .5 wrap with a 4.85 on this one

I was definitely too skimpy on the cotton with my first single coil build. I learned a few tricks on how to wick the coils and keep them lined up with the posts, etc... This is most certainly not as difficult as I thought it would be. I guess I was overthinking it, as I usually do a lot of things.

Got some really good juice to drip with on this new build as well. The Twynx is spot on and the Raging Doughnut is one of the better fruity pebble juices I've tried.

Can't wait to try some more advanced builds in the future. The flavor difference between dripping and tanks is very noticeable. I'll be dripping at while I'm at home for sure, however, a tank is still my weapon of choice while I'm on the go, strictly for convenience and also cleanliness. Dripping can be a bit messy...but you're not having fun unless you're making a mess right?

When your wicking dont have the cotton below the coil itself....it should be alot like a child's drawing of hair on a head....Just through the coil and then hanging straight down with the tip just sitting on the deck.

Cotton should be set up like this for best performance and wicking properties:

See told ya easy peasy.
Just a hair to much cotton, less is more.

Yeah, a bit too much cotton. I've noticed that my airflow isn't quite what it should be. I'll vape on this build for a while and then try again soon.

Good pics of what I need to do next time. Thanks for those.

Use http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp as a guideline for your regular builds. When you get into Claptons http://www.steam-engine.org/wirewiz.asp

Slow down http://vapingunderground.com/members/neunerball.15008/ ! I've only been at this a week and we're talking Claptons? LOL

I'm sure I'll get there one day, I just need to work on my techniques for regular wire. I'm still working on getting the ammount of cotton right. Getting it where there is the "air channel" http://vapingunderground.com/members/bignasty.2686/ was talking about is taking a bit of getting used to. However, it's getting a bit easier.

PS: how do I tag someone on here? Copying their name as a link didn't work right LOL.

You tag by using the @ followed by the name.

Did a little re-wicking practice today. Working on getting the airflow channel right...not sure if I used too little cotton this time. Still hits good though. Working with cotton in small places when you have fat fingers with arthritis sucks!

029.jpg 030.jpg
First attempt: had to re-wick due to setting the cotton on fire :wait:

031.jpg 033.jpg
Second try. Not bad if I say so myself.

Just make sure you put the cap on before you vape...thats a mistake a few of us have made and with some of the builds we do our lips look a bit tribal afterwards ;)
