Steeping pure flavor base versus complete juice.

If you make your mixes as a flavor base (100% flavors) that you then add to the PG/VG base, do you steep the flavor base separately from the finished juice?

I am reasonably certain that steeping is mainly needed to incorporate the flavors into the PG/VG base, but I thought I'd do a reality check. I ordered a custom flavor base and requested that it be steeped before shipping, but I am questioning if that was necessary or not.

The only benefit of making your own concentrate is for ease of mixing later. It doesn't aid in steep time. All components need to be incorporated in order to steep. (vg/pg/nic/flavoring)
+1 Only makes sense to steep the finished product/mix.

I, too, wouldn't steep a liquid without nic. Blah, blah oxidation and stuff,

Which begs the question, does one need to steep 0 nic liquid mixes?

Nope. :)
I have made several 0 nic test batches and they all tasted different (better developed) after some steeping time.

I can't speak to every recipe, of course, but I think steeping is a consideration regardless of nicotine content.

Hi Sailcat!!

Hi, Huckleberried! 'Nice to see you!

I have made several 0 nic test batches and they all tasted different (better developed) after some steeping time.
I can't speak to every recipe,

Nor can I as I have never done so. Reading it elsewhere would be reason enough; I was just so damn sure it was true. Anyone else tried this?

I'm going to make a thread about it and/or update this one tomorrow after I've made some testers, but I bought some flavor base from VapeCrafter (made to my specification) and will have a variety of bases to add it to. Will compare the virgin results as well as after they aged a bit.

It's a cool service they do, so I'm hoping it turns out well.

They're still in business????!! OMG I can't believe that.

Aside from that...... considering the bases are made of concentrated flavorings, then you dilute those down, even with 0 nic, the flavors will change with that alone. You're introducing something new to the mix, so in my head, it makes sense that a 0 nic finished mix will taste better in time. I could be so very wrong here, though. I've not mixed 0 nic, lol. I'm too chicken, yet.

Yeah, they are still a thing. I found out about them in an old thread and it sounded like a neat way to avoid having to make yet another flavor order for an unknown recipe.

They charge the same price for 30ml or flavor base as they do for 30ml of finished juice, so it only makes sense to me to buy the flavor base and mix my own finished juice. 30ml of flavor base will make around 180ml of finished juice at my expected flavor/base ratio.

Yeah, Mama J's does this. Good stuff, too. I just had no idea they were still around.

I used to vape solely 0 nic juice and I still steeped my juice. But I use low percentages so that's probably way. High percentages taste harsh to me. But whatever works :)

I've tried 0 mg both steeped and unsteeped there IS a definite taste differance. Steeping is to mainly get the flavoring to meld with the VG/PG mixture and nic if present.

+1 for sure! I have been vaping 0 nic for over 2 years. Huge difference between 3 days and a month.
