I honestly can't believe your merlin gives a better flavor than the boreas. My boreas overloads with both flavor and vapor. And i know my merlin is built and wicked proper, 0 leaking and vapes nice . But the bachelor has a much better flavor than it does imo
Well, for me it does. I'm not knocking the Boreas I have 2 of them as well. I just feel that the Boreas even with with the air flow on 2 or 3 has a much more airy vape than the Merlin which for me kind of dilutes the flavor. The Merlin while not as airy gives me a thicker more flavorful vape.

Place your coils at the same level of the post for maximum flavor in the boreas , or a vertical build .
Also a clapton or a fused clapton will make it even better , my Boreas gives me a much better flavorful vape than the Merlin

brought it to work & I machined out the the airflow under the coil. I do not recommend doing it unless you know what you are doing
you can't go to deep or take out to much or your deck will be trash. Not sure I should go into detail

Howd that work out? Did it open up the airflow really well? I gave thought to doing it myself, but I dont have access to a press or anything other than a regular old drill.

Well I like to say a very big thank you to Augvape.:)

I contacted them via Alibaba and ordered 5 Merlins from them which was the minimum you could order, but with delivery to the UK it worked out for me at $20.40 dollars each, but what took me by total surprise was that they were delivered from China in just 5 DAYS !! Just unbelievable service from Augvape.
It's been a pleasure dealing with them :)

I've now got a couple soaking away before I start my venture with these beauties :)
So thanks again Augvape and of course our missing in action Roxy for crafting these amazing atty's :)

And hurry back girl. we miss you !!!!!

Oh Sallys has EVERYTHING hair related you can imagine. I once needed Silver hair spray (long story) and it was no where near Halloween. Guess where I found it?
I had silver hair for a while. Just went back to blonde.

I feel it doubled the airflow mine was like my Boreas with all but one air hole closed now it is comparable to the Boreas with only one closed
Like I stated you need to be very careful about doing this it is very easy to wreck the whole base

Just got mine today in black. What were the issues people were having with this? I want to check mine to make sure I dont have the issue as well

First Build was twisted 26 kanthal at .25 was ok

Second build is a 26/32 clapton at .76 at 46w. Cant chain vape on it as the tip is getting to hot. Anyone have a suggested clapton coil build for this? I am usually MTL. I didnt feel this worked for me as a MTL tank even with the insert in. Id rather use it DL with it out but now just having a heat issue with the build.

I did not have any leaking at all on both builds

Well for my first successful vape I got from mine is using 32/24 Kanthal clapton coil wrap four times round a 2.5 mm rod and it came out at 0.54 Ohms, but I'm not running it at a very high wattage, at the moment I've got mine set at only 15 watts, but the vape and flavour is outstanding. :)
My plan was to sell a couple of the 5 units I got, but I'm very tempted in keeping them all :D

My next build I hoping to go to 1.00 Ohms or above as I think because of how this atty retains the heat then it might benefit from a slightly higher ohm coil.

Have you tried using a stainless steel Clapton in TC mode? I've been using a 316L fused Clapton for a week and it really helps with heat while chain vaping.

How are you making the SS Clapton? What is the wrap wire made with? SS or Kanthal?

I haven't bothered to make Clapton wire since switching over to stainless steel. I'm using premade 2x28/30g SS Clapton wire from Advanced Vape Supply right now. I also just got in some mixed wire 26ss/36k Clapton wire from Lightening Vapes (SS core wrapped in kanthal) a few minutes ago that I'll be trying out later. I really like the AVS wire, but if you want to make 100% 316L Clapton coils yourself, you can find a vast selection of sizes at kbeevapes.

Well thats what I wanted to know. Are the SS Claptons wrapped in SS316l or in kanthal. I know how to make the actual clapton. Just want sure what AWG to use for the core and wrap wires

Fused Clapton and MTL don't really work , since too little air is going to the coil , and fused claptons are really hot

Never in my life did I expect to see someone exceed my own abilities of being an asshole on this forum, well done Jai, you useless fucking clown.

I finally got a Merlin, and I ordered three all at once because I knew Roxy did a good job on the Boreas so the Merlin would be good. I still dislike the fact it's single coil only, but other than that it's got everything done just about perfectly. It blows the Serpent out of the water in terms of flavor and it's MUCH easier to build on as well. The Serpent had a weird mechanism for JFC and it was a pain to build on, the Merlin has neither of those issues and on top of that gives much better flavor.

The only thing I DON'T like about the Merlin is the stock drip tip, but that isn't much of an issue. I had it up to 130W this morning and it kept up like a champion.

I didn't have any issues with it, but it was a fused/staggered clapton so naturally there's a high ramp up at lower wattage. If it were a normal clapton or a round wire build it likely would've gotten way too damned hot.

They have to be high, at the top of the posts and level.....equal to each other..... And away from the post closer to the inside of the chimney which will put them close to the air flow.....

Build tutorial for dual coil build

Run wick through bottom coil and cut short on one end. The other end needs to be long enough to tuck into the top of the wick cup.

Run the wick for your top coil so that the long wick tail is opposite your bottom coil. It will need to be a little longer to reach your wick cup.

We will be moving all your posts to this thread :)

Also, was just informed that half the first run will be black! So initial run will be available in stainless or black!

The preorder will be going up at Subtank Supply. I will post a link once it's up.
A reminder that you can in fact have 2 coils in this tank (hence the 4 post holes!). Although I love it as a single coil, and the stock drip tip is the only stock drip tip I've ever liked on any tank :p

30g wrapping wire?
I recommend not going below 34g at the most for the wrapping wire, I usually use 36g or 38g for wrapping wire. Heats up and cools down faster, much better vape IMO plus your RTA or RDA won't get so hot either. I usually stick with 28x2/36 or 30x2/38 SS fused claptons

I put dual 2mm vertical coils in the Merlin earlier, and they worked just fine. Overall I think I got much better air-to-coil efficiency off the single coil builds though, but it DOES work fine if you want to go that route.

Due to the way the airflow hits the coil in the Merlin it's impossible to get as good of a flavor output with a dual coil build than it is with a single. Unless you angled the coils in an upside down V shape. Either way, I think single coil builds are overall more efficient.

I got put on an assignment for work that took me to places I never expected to go. I've been living off Chef Boy'Ardee Ravoli and Ramen for the past week due to how little time I've had to do anything. At last I'm free again.

My company pairing with an RC company for a project sounded like fun until I got to work with some of those people, ah well, getting paid is getting paid.

With a 0.76 ohm build, I would not vape at that wattage with the AFC restrictor insert. Just take that out and keep the AFC at about half open or so. You need air to cool that coil down. I'm using a 0.57 clapton, removed the air screw under the coil, AFC at half open. Running at 28 -30 watts, nothing is getting hot. A nice warm vape. Coil is about 1.5-2mm above the deck hole.

My insert is out afc is all the way open. Still getting hot just a bit at 40w. What can I change?

Do you happen to have a "hot spot" in your coil? Probably not since you seem to know better, but it's something to check.
I just turned my 0.57 ohm up to 40 watts and it is too warm for me. I like the 26-30 watt range. Plenty of flavor, plenty of vapor for a single coil. For me that is.

That's certainly one aspect, but I'd question how long he's holding the button down? How often? I'm not a big fan of the 32g wrap claptons, I find their ramp-up very troublesome. With that ramp up you can be holding the button down for a second or two before you even get vapor production. While it's not heating the coil enough to produce vapor you're running current through it for quite some time and that'll lead to a hot atomizer pretty easily.

32g can be fine, but it's usually better to go with something like 36g+ IMO.

You could be correct Jerus, but I am not having a big delay in ramp up since it is on a Sig 213 and it has a Power Up setting feature. I have that at 45w for 1.2 seconds...I get virtually immediate heat and then it powers back to 28 or 30 watts and I can take a longer draw. Just seems to work for me. I will check out a 36g wrap and see what's cookin'. Thanks for the advice.

Like I said, I've had mine as high as 130W. The key is one, being used to hot ass builds and two, having a large, thick coil. Regular claptons and round wire builds won't cut it. I've got a massive 3.5mm staggered/fused clapton in the Merlin right now, wide open and it's running just fine at 130W.

I had to kind of tilt it to get it to fit, it wasn't exactly perfect but once I got it set up it went smoothly from there. It's the only single coil tank I've tried that can keep up with high wattage so far.

The thing is I'm a bit of a unique case, as I normally vape at very high wattages so both my mouth and lungs are very used to scorching heat. That being said, you could still get to 70-100W on this thing with no issues as long as you had the right coil in here, even if you're not used to hot vapes.
