It seems that my Merlin is in limbo! I believe the JFC is not working the way it was meant to, probably due to the assembly muscleman that over tightened the whole thing. What I took for JFC (and actually worked, sort of) but lead to the leaks and overflow of juice in the deck was the loosening/tightening of the upper tank assembly to the bottom/tank assembly. @roxynoodle , any suggestions?

I didn't quite understand what you mean?

@roxynoodle , it seems to be the same problem @kad2371 was describing in post #1081. I pretty much had the same solution, I was loosening or tightening the tank on the base. I watched the short video clip @Boden posted showing the JFC rotating on the base, independent of the AFC, the way it is supposed to work. Mine doesn't do that! You and kad were saying it is stiff, well, mine is stuck:confused:

Do i need to totally strip it down and remove all o rings first? thanks,i really want to learn this the right way.

You should find this one is very clean. You can probably leave your o rings on. Base, glass, chamber, chimney stem, top cap and drip tip are the parts breakdown. Also remove grub screws and airhole insert for thorough cleaning. I soak them for 10 minutes in hot water and soap. Scrub with a toothbrush, rinse well and dry. Blow water out the airhole, too.

Hope you enjoy your Merlin!

I have never even thought about needing to remove grub screws for cleaning. Ya learned me something today.
Now I'm going to go hide before the school teacher whacks me with a ruler for my terrible grammar.:D

20160531_160318-1.jpg The black Merlin is sexy & a total different beast than the Boreas. It will take some getting used to after using the Boreas everyday but it is a great RTA now where can I get the Merlin drip tips I want one for my Boreas too!

Hello WW, welcome to the VU! Your in for the ride of your life, please put your seat in the upright position and fasten your seat belt!
This is the forum that has the co-designer of the Merlin, in one review it was described as the best tank he ever used and what an awesome designer Roxynoodle was. Glad you found us!!

It is loose compared to the Boreas. It could have had a little more resistance but it is OK. The jfc on mine was very stiff but has come into it already

Got my 2 Merlin's and I am in love ! They are beautiful! Don't think I ever felt that way about an RTA or any other tank. Thank you so much @roxynoodle ! I'm just admiring their beauty for the day.

Just some factoid, @roxynoodle said the "8" was a lucky number in China. And it is! Because in Chinese "8" rhymes with great fortune & prosperity. What ingenious minds at Augvape putting it on an RTA for a logo! So your Merlin can be your lucky charm as well! Symbolizing great fortune & prosperity!

Okay less than half an hour into the Merlin debut

Got it going at 1.2 ohm, ordinary kanthal build.

Have it competing against my authentic titanium Gem by Mark Bugs, same build, but at 1.02 ohms.

Both on identical 60W Isticks on 13.5 watts

The flavor just kicked in on the Merlin, which I have been intentionally trying to dry hit - I don't think it's gonna happen. Not one drop of juice leaking either, not one pinhead.

The flavor on it is already beating the Gem, which has cotton bacon that is about a week old and is hitting perfectly.

I have all of you to thank for the perfect first build/wicking, as I didn't have to experiment to get it right so THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO ALREADY GOT THE FRUSTRATING PARTS OUT OF THE WAY FOR US LATE BIRDS! :)

I guess Tiskra25 and I should put our Merlins together :wait: I emailed STS this morning about my "stuck " Merlin and after explaining in a second email that it is a chance occurrence, they very graciously offered to send me a replacement tank. I will pay shipping, a reasonable request on their part since they told me to keep the first Merlin for parts. This is the reason I will continue to order from STS, stellar customer service.

Got my black Merlin today. Put a fused clapton in it, 5 wraps, 3.2mm ID, 0.48 ohm. I had kept the AF restrictor in, but holy shite! the flavor and nic hit were just too much! Me thinks with the mtl screw in I will need to do a more conservative build. Anyway, pulled that coil and wick (was able to put them both back in nice and neat) and took the AF screw out...now were talking! Good flavor and a nice dense vapor. Totally different experience than the Boreas (which has been my main tank since I got it from preorder STS). I like the Merlin but have only been using it an hour so getting used to the difference.

No problem wicking, no leaks. The o-ring was missing from the top. There was a spare, but if I lose this one I will have to find a replacement for it. I think Roxy posted the sizes a few pages back.

Overall I really like it. The airflow draw is a bit noisier than the Boreas. That surprised me. But not a deal breaker at all. Easy spin off of the fill cap. Nice!

I'm lucky, mine is must quieter so far - are you using yours with the airflow pin removed?

I kept mine in and will probably leave it in for now as I'm really liking the MTL action on this

Received my Noodle RTA's today and they went directly into a bath. Decided to go with the black first and tried to build a 26ga 6 wrap but the leads kept getting cut so I moved to 24ga.

7 wrap spaced 24ga came out to .64 ohms and I filled it with some Berry Pie. Holy shit what a flavorful vape! I wasn't a big fan of the Drip Tip until I gave it a try, I'm glad I did because it matches the tank perfectly.

Nicely done Noodle!
