interesting day today. i went to the vape shop for wire to make some more 28g aliens for myself, and for my buddy at a different vape shop (that doesnt sell wire lol). the guy who runs the place makes coils, and i always try to grab a pair off him cause he does great work. he recently learned how to do aliens, and he gave me a strip of 28gauge with a couple mistakes in it for free. he also gave me a strip of staple and a strip of some kind of claptoned twisted ribbon thingy. so i bought my wire to make my aliens, went home and rolled up coils from his to vape on while i made mine, to take to the vape shop and give the guy behind the counter. circle of life.

heres his aliens in my griffin 22. i didnt even take a pic of mine cause i was in a hurry to get to the other shop before he closed lol.

Yeah, I posted it back in November or something like that. There's also a Volume II or something.
I didnt remember if it was you or F1reB1rd but I knew it was posted....it was pretty awesome to watch. At first I couldnt tell if it was real or a joke, I was blown away that they were making those....then I saw it was fake

@raymo2u thanks again for the coil samples. I've gone through a few of them now, and they are great! Are there any ones that go below .10 ohms? Everytime I pinch and strum the coils they come out to .11 ohms. That was with 3 coil sets so far. I'm just not sure which I am working with lol....

The Alien Framed Staples...the ones with the Spaced Alien Wrap with Ribbon wire in the center should be well below .1 (Around .07-.08 atleast.

Well need to work on wrapping these.. this beautiful thing went to waste.

I tend to turn/twist the wire inwards towards the last wrap while I wrap those and wrap holding the end of the wire, everyone does it differently though...

I'd just back off the messed up part and start again
Oh this was the finished staple.. I meant wrapping the actual coil.. my ribbon inside got twisted up, so only the last two wraps looked sort of decent. Think I just need a vice to hold it while I wrap

well, that spool tamer is awesome. my first try was just clapton for aliens. took about half an inch of wraps and a bit of adjustment on tension to figure it out, then i gave it full power and watched in amazement. second attempt was spaced. i got a pretty good result by accident. i was trying to get some space between the spool and the chuck right at the start and instead of just wrapping an inch or two, i kind of pulled the spool away from the drill while it was spinning slowly. that little pull resulted in 6 or 7 nicely spaced wraps. i pulled the trigger for a second and the next wraps were spaced without me pulling, so i just went for it. i got two three foot sections wrapped up in about 6 minutes on my first two tries. what a beautiful day.

I'm in the same boat! Added responsibilities at work and a3 month old. My build time had been non existent! I have put together my vape toolbox and have my mini screw clamp vise with swivels ready to start taking it to work worth me and using my lunch time here and there to build.

Now parallel those space claptons and fuse them....should be able to rip fast through them also

Not really a build shot, but this, and my day job, is why I've been too busy to post any coil porn for a while. There was more before this, and still more to do.

Sorry for the low quality focus. Various configurations of aliens, staples, framed staples, fused Claptons, regular Claptons:

Thank you! Yeah, my left thumb hurts from holding down the wire when I coil it in the Youde jig.

Ive been bending the wire downwards after the slit and if you keep tension while wrapping the coil you dont need to hold it on the jig anymore, this also depends on how much is pulled after that slit though(needs atleast 1/3")

wow stagger fused is among the hardest techniques i have tried. i was being a smartass and i put some twisted ribbon in the mix. it kept getting squeezed out from between the claptons so i started over and over. i was trying to go slow and get it perfect and that made it harder because i could barely see if i even got it right. i got my best results after getting mad enough to jump it up to medium/high speed and go by feel. still a ton of mistakes though, and not enough patience to fix them. im going to try to find one of those jewelers headset light/magnifying glass things. i think if i could see it properly i could find the patience to go slow enough to get every wrap perfect.

28/36ka1 stagger fused with 2x twisted .5mm hybrid ribbon in the middle. dual 6 wraps comes to .18 ohm.

Good job on actually finishing it though, even though its not perfect it will work perfectly either way!
They are really time consuming and you definitely need a good eye when using thin gauges...The 2 I did before the last Staggered I did took almost 2 hours to finish each....even if your spacing is perfect one thing can screw up the whole line up. These are all different builds but I feel they are the best Staggereds Ive done so far..trust me, with each of them I wanted to just give up half way when fusing them...Half of the builds Ive done with Staggereds Ive tossed out because of flaws in the spacing or fusing, or the Ribbon popped out of place or turned...

@raymo2u Do you use gears for your corrugation? Sorry if you've gotten the question before. Judging from the difficulty of wrapping that staple earlier, I can only imagine how that would be.

Yea I stopped using the Tube Squeezer because the spacing and teeth were too far and long apart....causing the ribbon to fold when wrapping. I use spur gears right now from my Slash 4x4 but I have a Corrugation tool coming any day that will be even better with more options for designs.

yeah @raymo2u i have a whole new respect for stagger fused builds now. im glad i talked myself out of trying a stagger fused alien and went with the ribbon core instead. im positive that plan would have ended in misery lol

so i have a 30 foot pack of 40 gauge sitting here. whats a cool build to try with it? last pack of this i had, i just made staples with 40g wrap.they taste great, but i kind of want to do a cat track or something like mterks framed multi strand tutorial. any suggestions or favorite things to do with 40g?

If life leaves you with 46Ni80 and .4Ka ribbon....
W3mQFsIm.jpg

..you make staple wire.

V2 alieniser was better but no good when I put normal 3 core wires through it.

6TQI71Cm.jpg

This is single core flatwire....I can see why GeekVape use that as their core for alien wire. Jig puts too much spin on the 3 core and messes it into a triangle.

You want to use 30g or 32g for Cat Tracks..For 40g I use for Fused Claptons, Framed Staples or Fusing the Staggereds, you could also use it for Stitching on Aliens, using it for Helix's and more. You could cut some of 10" strips and make a Framed Multicore Fused Clapton...

I would have taken pics of the build but it was a pain in the ass to hold it in your hand and put the coils In whoever thought that was a good idea should be slapped

That's awesome and looks easy to do. What is the diameter of it and what's out ohm out at?

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.
It started out as a 3.5mm ID standard contact coil. The final resistance was 2.3Ω using 10 wraps of 28 gauge Kanthal A-1.

Basically make a contact coil. Take it off the rod and with some wide jaw pliers squeeze it gently. Then take two smaller rods and work it to final shape. Then bend the legs so they are going the direction you want.

Thanks alot. I'll have to get my hands o.k. a bigger rda so that I can build this. Looks interesting. Thanks for sharing
