Well, I ordered some stuff from FastTech and used USPS through ePacket instead of regular USPS, hopefully will be playin with some new RTAs soon! :)

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

Lucky you! I ordered up a few "wish list" items during the 15% off sale ---- none of it "ships today". The last time I ordered something from there with a "ships within a week" disclaimer it took over six weeks.

But it will be worth the wait - I'm having a harder and harder time justifying new purchases, lol.

I figured it would take a month, keyword in my post was "Hopefully" Haha, that's why Iv never ordered from them before, but they have certain stuff that just isn't sold in the US.. Sometimes you can find these items in a US warehouse but if its a Popular item they sell out fast as hell! lol

Yeah, as long as you aren't in a big hurry you can save a bundle shopping there.

Usually when I do an order with them, I take anything out of the cart that doesn't ship immediately, and will get it within two weeks. Then I make a second purchase for everything they have to wait to get, which always (for me anyway) takes a month minimum.

I bought a GEM clone to see if it might be worth pursuing the real deal.

I got to thinking about the life expectancy of attys and am a little concerned, and was thinking titanium could be the way to go if I want to still be vaping something in 5 years.

That's my problem, I don't have any of those. Closest I have is a very, very good clone of the Russian 91% which is very bland compared to the more recent stuff that are so close to RDA for flavor.

I'm just thinking longevity - I can't see some of these great-tasting but lower priced attys lasting for that long - especially the way they've been rushing them to market and selling cheap right off the bat.

the kf4 is really not all that different in the way it vapes, the 4 may have a little more airflow; but, I still find it mutes the favor a little, withch was my primary complaint on the Russia/kfl.
the hurricane is a real flavor machine, akin to the taifun. the erl, is kind of a combination of the two in performance. that's where I come in with curiosity in the gem and always going back to wanting to try it,

if you truly want one of the best made/machined atomizers ever made...give one a go
if you want a ss tank and 2 glass tanks, a 2.5 mm round air hole, and like simple single coils...give the original a go
if you want 3 glass tanks, a 2.5 by 6 mm adjustable air flow, two 2.8 mm juice inlets, 4.6 mm air inlet under coil versus 3mm on original...give the v2 a go
both have a slightly noisy draw
the hurricane has a better build deck for accepting temp. protection builds, uses more cotton or wicking material, and is much more silent when drawing.
the hurricane delivers impressive flavor
the gem/gem v2 will kick the shit outta everything MTL out there except the hurricane IMO
just for fun get a v2 just to say you have one, but, the hurricane is a better vape dollar for dollar

@AngiBe , for MTL you might consider the Kayfun mini v3. Granted, it looks like a church steeple on a small mod but the flavor is really good. 3F has a good clone, I'm reading the SXK clone is really good and at $20 or so, it is worth a try.
@Brewbear Hey man, I just picked up a couple of Kayfun Mini v3 Clones from VapeNW for $15.00 each......Haven't built on them yet......What kinds of builds do you do on these little babies.....Wire Gauge? Wire Kind? Coil Size and number of winds? Finished Coil Ohms?...... I got Kanthal 28, 26, 24 gauges .....Stainless Steel 316L 26, 28 gauges....... I-stick 30 watt mod.....Joytech Evic VTC mini 75 wattTC Mod......Can you share your experiences and suggestions......Wire, Builds, Vape Wattages.......anything you deem appropriate........I am looking forward to tasting these babies...... :)

@Flavor Alchemist I tend to use them with clapton SS wires. Currently, I have 6 wraps SS wire clapton 30g core with 36g wrap, it ohms at 0.93 or so. I have one on the eVic Mini and another on the Smok Treebox. Both mods are TC .
I use scottish roll wicks, but like every other Kayfun, with wicking less is more. You'll have to find that balance of enough wick so it doesn't leak, but not too much to get dry hits. This is the reason I have them in TC mode.

I forgot I do have a k4 - I took it apart to clean before firing it up and got so confused trying to get it back together it is still in the bowl I rinsed it out in, lol.

You are probably right, I wouldn't know since paying $160 for a tank in hopes that it is the right one for me is something above my vaping budget. I did however pre-order the Merlin, a tank from Augvape. It shows promise and at $30.99 is something I'm willing to take a chance.

Well, I'm grateful considering I have the hurricane and it sounds like for the gem wouldn't fit well.
For that, thank you, bro!

@Brewbear How do you wrap the 36 gauge around the 30 gauge core wire?

@Alchemist, I should've asked if you know what a clapton coil/wire is. My apologies, didn't realize not everybody is a coil making.... The process is pretty simple in theory, more of a pain in practice. You clamp your core wire in a drill's jaws making sure the wire is straight. Then, you catch/wind the end of the outer (wrap)wire at that same point (drill jaws) and start the drill in effect creating a spring over the core wire. The process is pretty simple, some people can do it free hand, others use all kinds of jigs and such. That is the basic idea, it has evolved a lot since that first clapton- dual or triple core, alien wrap. The reason for it in the first place is to increase the surface area for your coil, allow more fluid on the coil thus increasing vapor and flavor in your vape. I learned how to make it from watching Twisted messes videos, at the time there wasn't much available. @raymo2u or @CrazyChef make awesome coils at very reasonable prices. There is another member here that has a shop(works for one?) where they sell ready made clapton wire, you just make the coil and put it in your atty. The reason I mention the coils from ray and chef is because they use really top quality materials and their coils are as perfect as can be.
Moderators, sorry for the long winded answer to the simple question, hope you'll leave it here instead of moving it to the coil heads sub-forum.

Yes, I do know what a Clapton coil is, as I also play Bass.....using round wound strings....Have heard that the name was derived from the idea that Eric Clapton is a guitar player extraordinaire........I understand your explanation, however will have to view some videos for a visual.....On the quick side of things, I was thinking of experimenting with simple twisting of 2 strands and get a little experience playing with the wire......while I search out for videos on Clapton coil winding.....

@Flavor, twisted wire is a good start. Keep in mind that the trap screws are very small so the overall diameter of the wire used should not be too large. I would start with 28g if you don't have 30g. Single strand will give you a baseline, twisted is better, clapton is better still.

I got some 28 gauge SS coming in this week.......will experiment with it an see what it comes in for ohms and how I build.....If it goes too low, I will get into some smaller gauge wire........I can experiment with SS by itself, and thought perhaps I could experiment with 28 gauge Kanthal and or 28Kanthal/28SS...........vape in power mode , to begin with......thoughts?

@FlavorAlchemist, didn't mean to offend with the clapton comment. Twisting kanthal with SS wire should work and bring the resistance up a little. The great thing about SS wire is that you can use it in either TC or power modes.

@f1r3b1rd are you getting the expromizer v2? It looks nice, please let us know what you think, if you like it and how it compares to the hurricane. I'm waiting for the Merlin, I was about to order the expromizer v2 from a shop in NZ but I think I'll get the Hohm Slice first (no overhang on the Boreas) and then get a couple more tanks.

I traded it to a friend because he bought two Aromamizers and hated them. He didn't want the hassle of selling them.
