Which ultrasonic cleaner to get, and why?

I really like my Magnasonic MGUC500. Great build quality, absolutely no leaks, extremely easy to clean. The only thing is the timer maxes out at 480 seconds. I have never found a small ultrasonic cleaner with a timer more than much longer than that. I found 480 seconds is usually plenty but if u need more it is extremely easy to just start another cycle. Magnasonic makes a few small cleaners. Some do not have adjustable timers. So if an adjustable timer is important to u, make sure to pay attention which one u are ordering. I think I paid $30 for mine on Amazon.
Both of the ones shown look like pretty good devices. I've been thinking about picking one of these up for quite some time. Looks like there's a couple of experts here, so I have a few questions:
1) How do you keep all of the grub screws and tiny bits from falling through the holes in the basket?
2) What sort of solution is needed to clean?

you simply don't use the basket. It's optional. just pick up the little grub screws with your fingers once its done. I use plain old water, or water with a couple (2 or 3 ONLY) drops of Dawn dish detergent. With the heater on, the Ultrasonic cleaner will get into the smallest nook and cranny and get rid of the gunk. The water will look cloudy afterwards, that's the crud suspended in solution. Just rinse the gear with water afterwards if you used Dawn and you are good to go.
I really like my Magnasonic MGUC500.
I want to keep it at room temp for steeping, so I'm worried about the machine doing multiple cycles and making the water hot. Does that happen to yours? I'm not trying to go above 86F/30C
Wow, that iSonic unit has a 30 minute timer? All the ones I looked at when I bought mine had just 60 seconds non adjustable up to about 10 minutes adjustable. The Magnasonic one I bought does not say heated but after just 1 cycle the water is already pretty warm. I think it is the ultrasonic action that naturally heats up the water. When I first got that unit I was expecting to have to run multiple cycles to clean dirty atty's but I was amazed how well that thing cleans everything extremely quickly. Just push the button and let it do its thing then to clean it just dump the water out and give it a quick wipe with a towel. I have been loving it.
I am guessing after a couple of 480 second cycles the water in the tank is probably 90 - 100 F. I have never measured it though. It is just warm to the touch. Not hot. I have never needed to run more than 2 or 3 cycles no matter how gunked up the atty is and I have never had the water get hot enough that I was worried about damaging parts such as o-rings.
So I bought a

It has a cycle of 480 seconds. Not my top choice but it was pretty cheap.
I have to say I'm pretty underwhelmed with the results. I put four of my mixes into a an hour ultrasonic treatment and i don't see evidence of it being steeped..

I have never tried and ultrasonic cleaner for steeping, just cleaning. It works awesome for quick easy cleaning of all my tanks and drippers. I guess in theory it might work for steeping but I would think that the small ultrasonic movement would take quite a bit of time to thoroughly mix large batches of liquid. You could drop a little food coloring into water and run a few cycles to see how well it mixes. It is great for cleaning but I do not see a ton of use for steeping. I may be wrong though. Never tried it.
I also use a Dry N Stor for drying. It is designed for drying hearing aids. I throw my hardware in the cleaner and run a cycle or two and then throw it in the Dry N Stor and let it run. The Dry-N-Stor has a UV light that runs for 6 minutes to kill bacteria and then a small PC fan that runs for up to 8 hours to circulate warm air over a desiccant brick to suck up all the moisture. Simple and easy cleaning and drying. I love them.
Is their a machine for mixing AND steeping?
I didn't think an ultrasonic "cavitated" the juice at such a low level of power. Especially with short timers.
That's what I think too. I have watched mine while cleaning stuff. I think the movement of the liquid is so small that it would take forever to use it as a mixer and have the liquid fully mixed. There might be more powerful and expensive units that might do a good job, or better yet a machine specifically made for blending liquids, but I do not see a small cheap ultrasonic cleaner doing a great job for mixing and steeping.
