I got this new 18 year old kid at work that's like that. He just got his first vape setup and it's all he talks about. Every time vaping comes up with non-vapers around he's like "Yeah, I'm running my mutation x v4 with a .1-whatever dual fused clapton build on my 200w box mod." like that somehow makes him cool when really people just don't know what the fuck he is talking about. They're just like, "Ohhhh.... yeah, okay. Cool?" And I'm just shaking my head like "I'm not with this guy." The funny thing is, even he doesn't know what he's talking about. He's just reciting it from memory, saying it the exact same way every time.

I start talking building with him and he's fucking lost. He doesn't even know how to clean and rewick! He doesn't know shit about batteries. Everything I try to teach him is lost on him because he just wants to chuck clouds. That gear is totally wasted on him. Dude's got no vape cred in my eyes. I'd be happy to teach him, but he seems to think he's already got it with the shit the dude at the vape shop gave him a crash course on. He thinks he's on the same level as dyed-in-the-wool vapers because he has the same gear, but he's oblivious to the cause... ...what we're really setting out to do for people and vaping alike.

I'd rather these dumb kids vape than smoke, but that still kind irks me. Damned outsiders! At the end of the day, I think if you wanna vape, that's your call to make... ...but that doesn't mean I won't see fit to question some of these folks common sense. I just think that if you're interested in something, then you have to take the time to learn a little more about it before you go all-in on it. That's all. It's a matter of respecting what vaping means to the majority of us.

I get what you're saying, but this is, I think, a legitimate case of do as I say, not as I do. We vape because we're addicted, not just to the nic, but to the act itself. The easiest way to quit is to not start. That's the lesson we've all learned the hard way, haha.

Good for you or not isn't an issue. Most people do something that isn't really good for you. But, they enjoy the hell out of it. Sure, we could all masturbate and be safe with some enjoyment but I'd rather stick it in a ho and enjoy it even more, even if it is more risky.

Maybe the kid will get some enjoyment out of vaping. Who the hell am I to say the risk outweighs the reward? Besides, he's likely a liberal and the experience of enjoying something that the government wants to snatch away from his personal freedom makes me smile on the inside. :p

That's the most rational and honest way to look at it.

Can't say I really have a problem with people having vices. I think we all pick our poisons. I remember someone frowning and calling me cynical for saying something to that effect and it made me pity them a little... ...what a long, boring life they must've lead to reach that conclusion at the age of 50.

But with that in mind, I think it's important to tread with caution when it comes to any potential vice. Again, know what you're getting into. That's where I think a lot of these non-smoker kids turned vapers are failing. They're just falling into it like smokers did tobacco in the past. Something about that makes me take it personally. There's no logic to it, though. I can admit that. Something about watching someone fall willingly into that same progression just makes me itchy.

blah blah blah libertarian claptrap...if we encouraged every teenage boy to indulge in what they got enjoyment out of we'd bee scrapping them off the streets like road kill....that shit needs to be tempered with reality and responsibility.......the dirty little secret that the FDA never allowed on the pack of cigarettes was......WARNING this package contains the most addictive substance known to man and your chances of becpming addicted are almost certain, and as of present we have no known cure for the addiction..."
I'm all for freedom ...but it is the resposiblity of a parent to lead their kids into being free.....being an addict is not freedom.

I think almost all addicts started whatever drug the used as a form of self medication...to deal with issues in their lives..traditionally the working poor didn't have access to psychiatric resources and so the medicted themselves in a way they had access to and could afford, and that allowed them to get to work everyday..tobacco and booze .

I guess I don't really feel as sorry for myself as all that. I like my nicotine and enjoy it. There's no self loathing going on with me. I enjoy my coffee. I enjoy my nicotine. I never did plan on living forever. I enjoy what time I have in the way that suits me. I think others should as well.

Here is a more realistic scenario

SON: mom, can I smoke a cigarette?

MOM: no, its bad for you

SON: well then can I vape?

MOM: no its bad for you

Son then goes behind moms back and gets his hands on a pack of cigs.

When I started smoking at 15 I honestly dont think it was to look cool as much as it was pure rebellion, unfortunately that rebellion turned into a bad for me habit.

So do you think vaping in itself WITHOUT the addictive nicotine is addictive in itself?

Psychologically, yes. Although to test that on myself, I'd have to 1. Stop vaping for a while, 2. Switch to zero nic, 3. See if vaping zero has any positive benefits on a day I'm irritable. But once I get past step #1, I might as well quit permanently.

I see both sides here. Why vape if you never smoked? Why treat nicotine like it's the "bad" stuff in cigs?

I think though, where our resistance to new people starting vaping comes from, really stems from the AGE groups and mentality of the "never smoked before" category. Those type of vapers (just mentioned) tend to be the dumbest and most obnoxious when they vape. They tend to break the rules of "good decorum" and do really stupid shit that makes the news (and makes vapers as a whole look bad).


Sure, vaping is much less harmful then smoking cancer sticks. Sure we should have a freedom to choose. Just don't be a total douche bag to others with your choice, is all.

I think for me, it is psychological. I find it calming. I started smoking at a very young age because my friends did it, plain and simple. *shrugs* No one stuck a lit cigarette in my mouth, just the peer pressure was all I needed. After 20 years of smoking, I finally quit. I went 10 years without smoking. Then I moved back to my home state, and started a relationship with a very special someone. Unfortunately, that very special someone smokes cigarettes, and coupled with the stresses of moving home as well as a few other stressful life events, I found myself feeling the urge to smoke. I even picked up a cigarette here and there. I was disappointed in myself, but discovered those good ol' Blu e-cigarettes and it completely took my urge to smoke a cigarette away. I have lowered my nicotine intake already in less than a year of vaping, and my goal is to be happy with 0 nic, though I am really just damn happy I didn't go back to smoking. I am thankful everyday that vaping is available, and I would probably be smoking cigarettes right now if it wasn't around. I definitely think it is a psychological thing for me; the simple act of drawing on my vaporizer and exhaling the plumes of vapor calms me.
I do not vape around children in an enclosed area, I do not aggravate nonsmokers or nonvapers by blowing huge plumes of vapor in their space... I do vape outside when I am out and about in hopes that someone will be curious and ask me about, of which I am more than happy to tell them about it. I am happy to say that I did inspire 2 parents to quit smoking cigarettes and to take up vaping. It also greatly reduces my urge to snack, which is a definite plus.
I like it. I do hope that it does not go away with all this legislation tomfoolery going on, and I do my part to keep it around.
