“Was it safe? Was it properly rebuilt? Should it have been sold?” he said.

But when asked who needs to be held responsible, Goldberg said it's too early to determine.

“We don't have enough information yet to point fingers at anyone,” he said.

In the meantime, Goldberg said, it's about increasing awareness of potential dangers, which some experts have attributed to batteries."

Highlight 1) Rebuildable mod in pocket - Probably user error
Highlights 2 & 3) "We don't know who to blame" - Probably user error

What do I think happened?

Either A)
The mod had no firing lock (like the Manhattan) and fired in his pocket burning his hand and nutsack

or B)
The user didn't bother to lock the mod before sticking it in his pocket Then It fired in his pocket burning his hand and nutsack

Hence the lawyer stating “We don't have enough information yet to point fingers at anyone,” because the finger needs to be pointed at the user.

Lawyers don't show their hand before all bets have been placed and this one just did - 5150

Just my opinion but making the general public and government officials aware of what could happen isn't helping. I'm guessing he was using a mech mod and probably new to vaping so he feels this wasn't his fault. That's why he lawyered up and contacted the drive by media. I'm at The point now that I wish people would stop using mech mods because the chances of something like this happening is much higher than regulated mods. This is how the uninformed general puplic sees vaping now. We are all walking around with pipe bombs. If this guy wants to "bring awareness" he should talk about the good vaping offers and fess up that this happened because of the type of device he was using and his own carelessness while using the product and there are other vaping products that are regulated with built in safety to prevent this from happening.

B&Ms are the ones selling and pushing these high profit 'clones' on new vapers. Forums like this and YouTube are convincing new vapers their first setup needs to produce clouds. Big Vapor is to blame...

I agree. Users fault. Any user that has a mech mod should know the risks and dangerous and make a big effort to avoid them. He'll just the other day I felt dumb Cus I burnt my side bad cause I have the XCUBE2 with Twisted Messes on it. It doesn't have a button. It has a firing bar and I'm not used to locking it everytime I sit it down. I guess I laid it next to me and when I moved it started firing and burnt the F' ing shit out of my side. Only the RDA got hot tho. If it would have been a Mech mod then things may have been much worse. But I own up to it still and knew it was my own dumb fault for doing that. Everyone in the vaping community has their stories I'm sure. But we admit our fault in them At least most of us

Most new vapers who aren't on forums- which is most, don't know mechs are any different, safe-wise, than cigalikes or eGos...

Your probably right. They go into these stores and they are immediately drawn to the shiney , decorative mods that they can get very cheap or the same price as a decent boring starter kit. If I owned a B&M you would be shown pictures of mech mods exploding or batteries venting and you would have to read info and take a test on battery safety and mech mod safety before purchase. This would cover my ass as well as inform the buyer. Kind of like going to a shooting range for the first time. They won't let you join without passing a general gun safety test.

Its a miracle that there has not been more accidents with regulated mods.. Recently I had a scenario that I have not mentioned on this board.. I had bought a IPV3 LI a month ago and the firing button stuck due to a malfunction if actually did not stick but starting firing by itself.. Luckily I heard it and stopped it before it went into meltdown .. Luckily I am savvy enough to find the issue and working on replacing the mircoswitch but the idea that only Mech Mods can cause runaway issues it not true... I guess regulated works for the most part.

I didn't mean to imply this could never happen with regulated devices. But at least battery safety is built in. But at the same time most regulated mods still have vent holes just incase.

No It's cool. I remember back when the IPV 2 came out there were reports of smoke coming from them and battery sleds melting. One vender even did a recall. Despite all that I still bought one. Wish I hadn't, wonky center pin and ohm readings. The bottom line is we all just need to use common sense.

I agree it is most always the users fault. I build around. .15-.18 but I know my battery's limits and never run them to low. A friend of mine had his pop in his center console didn't use the lock ring and his .35 ohm build (pretty safe with a good battery. Fired for over 2 min while he was getting gas and violently vented. He admits it was his fault. And a regulated device would have stopped after 10 seconds

"Was it safe? Was it properly rebuilt? Should it have been sold?" Yes, maybe, not to idiots.

Case and point.

ok so if you buy a gun and tuck it in your pants in the back and it fires and blows a hole in your ass, who is responsible?

I'm pretty sure most people know mishandling a gun can result in injury; the same can't be said concerning electronic cigarettes...

That's the problem. People don't know what they need to know. His point was just saying that it's the persons fault not the device. Because saying mods blow themselves up is like saying spoons make people fat.
