So who took the jump to Windows 10???

I'm just curious, since Microsoft is offering Windows 10 as a free upgrade for a limited time from Windows 8.1 and 7, if anyone here took that jump, I did and love it, while I didn't notice too much performance difference on my desktop, my laptop seems to be running a little faster than it was on Win 7.

I have one of my machines upgraded. I have not had a chance to play around with it too much. My main work laptop can't be upgraded at this point, and my personal laptop I have not gotten too. I want to play around on my test box before I commit my main computers to it.

Mine runs little better with 10 and even works well with START MENU 8 as it did with 8.1. I use this feature cause i like the old windows 7 start up menu. I have herd there is alot more spying going on with 10 but there are ways to stop that if you look into it. I will resolve that soon.

I don't mind the Win 10 Start Menu... I hated the 8.1 one that would have to take up the whole screen .. there was seriously no point to that, lol

I'm lucky, I've been playing with Windows 10 for a few months before release, pretty much since the technical preview was released., so I already knew what to expect,... so I had no issues upgraded my PC's to 8 ... I think my room-mate's PC is the only one not upgraded at the moment in my house, lol

I got my notification last night, ran the customized version, instead of express. I wanted to know what my settings were going to be, lol. My transition was seamless. I ended up with a lot of programs I had no interest in, so I just uninstalled those. I do like the Start feature better than 8.1.

No info was lost, I don't notice a lot of difference, so I'm a happy camper, thus far. Boyfriend is on 7, is curious, but in no hurry. I'm his guinea pig.

I put it on my laptop. It's a little slower for me. Takes away more control. Pretty invasive. Some things like notifications (not message notifications but things in the notification bar) are stupidly more difficult to set. Used to be you'd hit the arrow and customize, now you have to go over to the start menu and settings to get there.
I'm leaning more towards it not going on my desktop. It networks fine with 7. My desktop is a homebuild and MS has hosed it before with an update. Windows10 has no way to shut off updates or refuse a problem update. You got your choice of having it automatically rebooting and hosing your computer or letting you schedule the hosing of your computer.

It really adds nothing to computing that I've found, only removes it. I'm not sure if it will be coming off my laptop (which I guess I only have a month before they remove that option).

I hated both 8s, but am stuck with it on my windows tablet due to a graphics issue. I did attempt to install W-10 on my laptop and it failed miserably. After installation, on reboot, my screen started flashing and reloading repeatedly. No way to stop it except to pull up the task manager to sign out and shut down. I can't even put it in safe mode. Gave up and reinstalled 7, and will probably leave well enough alone.

I know what you mean when i got 8 I wanted my 7 back and almost installed 7. I decided to install 10 Its better in some ways but i don't like all the spying that has been reported with it.

Yes but I don't pay all those $100-$200 so they can spy on me.
I guess that explains why 10 is free. Our information is worth more to MS than $200.

They also don't run as deep as a computer operating system (maybe the phone's/tablet OSs if you do a lot on them).

All the above I've been hearing too, Especially the invasive part, that's what turns me off....gonna stay put with what I've got(7)

Oh yeah, it takes back default from Firefox and won't give it back with Firefox's box telling it to. You have to go digging in settings again.

When my screen was having its little "flash-fest" after W-10 rebooted, nothing worked on the mouse gestures. Not start, right click, left click - nothin'. Task manager was the only way I could get out. And while it was flashing and reloading, it was taxing my CPU at 85% and higher.

I had to do a system restore from this morning. Seems ok now. Frustrating, but I've dealt with far worse than this.

MS Edge... sucks
Chrome... used it for 2 years, loved it, then it gave me Adware that couldn't be fixed so I uninstalled Chrome last week. No more issues.
Back to FF, and everything's fine with that.

Still, Win 10, I expect some bugginess for a bit, but I have time to go back if I wanna.

I still use an Iphone 4 on ios5.1.1 Im a creature of habit......you will never catch me using anything other then windows 7...unless im getting paid to, even then, it would have to be a lot of freaking money.....Windows is such a goofy OS....i have been building computers my whole life, and these new operating systems suck donkey balls.

Get a mac and call it a day, or get two macs, and two PCs and just call it a day....XP and 7 tho :) both hyper threaded and ram'd out to the max...still like my 2009 macbook better lol

I still prefer Ubuntu. Windows 10 is ok though. I have it on my pc and my laptop since my pc had 8.1 and the laptop had 7. Haven't really messed around with edge. I just assumed it was another internet browser to download firefox or chrome on lol.

I upgraded mine from Win 7, and have had no issues with it so far. My Girlfriend wasn't so lucky. Her Win 7 machine has an Nvidia graphics system on it that didn't get a Win 10 driver update. Her machine wouldn't recognize her monitor, and utilized a generic Windows driver from 2006. Her screen looked so bad no matter what adjustments were made that she couldn't deal with it so, she reverted back to Win 7.

You shouldn't have to re learn entire operating systems, or reteach yourself just to get online. Having to learn new steps that you have done your entire life, every time these idiots put a new one out is hardly a good thing for them. Upgrading an older computer to a new OS is a very risky. Remember when the world upgraded to Vista and it almost broke ...lol..

im cool with ios 5.1.1 and xp...(maybe 7 if im feeling frisky)

I played Doom II ion 7, I use an app called DOSBOX that lets me do a lot like step the processor down and run the old DOS based games like the way they were intended.

All my desktop computers are still on 7, except for my media PC which has xp.

Usually only upgrade when a reinstall is needed

I hear ya there! Going back even further, I remember sitting up late at night many times coding my old Commodore 64. BBS's were all the rage, and if you had a modem doing more than 300 baud you were living the high life!

first computer I ever played with was a VIC 20, if you want to go there, (My Dad used to be a college level professor in Computer Science so he got all the toys from the University when they came out) my first Computer was a Apple II C+, and my first PC was a Packard Bell 486 SX/25, lol.
Another fond computing memory was going back to HS, was building and programming the controls of a simplistic robot on a Commodore PET in BASIC, (it was old then, lol )

Also during my Teenage Years I ran a Renegade BBS off an old IBM AT with a 28.8 Bocamodem :)

@Teresa P what did you do about the flashing? I'm not having anything like you had, mine is mainly with my cursor.
Only way I could get out was sign out through the task manager. I gave up and reinstalled W-7, haven't had the time or inclination to dicker with it since. I may try 10 again, just seems a waste of time to reinstall 7, install a couple hundred updates and extensions, then try 10 again, just to have a repeat of what happened the other night. But, it may, it may not. I have till next July to see....lol!

THIS is what I had to contend with.....

HOLY SHIT!! I don't blame you for uninstalling. I looked at my options, and it'll allow me to go to 7 or 8.1. So you have until NEXT July to update to 10 again??? That's pretty cool, considering all the new bugs might be fixed by then.

Yeah, I can't complain about what it's like today. I ran another update before I went to bed last night and all seems pretty good today.

Nah, chrome all the way here ;)
I have Chrome and even use it occasionally. I have issues with a browser that only gives me an on/off switch for cookies and doesn't allow me to choose those sites I want to allow. Early versions of Chrome did. Even Internet Exploder gives you the option. At first I liked the way it loaded quickly but it's no faster than recent builds of Firefox.

The free version of 10 is available till July 29, '16, then it has to be purchased for $200. Good thing it's free, if I'd paid 200 bucks and had that same experience, I'd be fuming! Do W-7, much better than 8.1.

I keep telling myself I should, just to see what it's like, but... *shrugs* ...eh. I have a tri-boot setup with XP, 8, and Linux Mint. I still use XP the most. It's very stable on my somewhat dated hardware and I can actually troubleshoot and fix problems I have with it, because it's an OS that at least somewhat assumes you know what you're doing. It'll let you do all sorts of things that will break your system, but at least it doesn't break on its own and leave you waiting for an update to fix it for you.

XP is all around less powerful and yet somehow it's still more flexible. I don't get that at all. That's quite possibly the one thing that has kept me away from the later versions for years.
