Hey guys, im new to the vaping world i started a few years ago with a cheap ego twist that i would use a few days then stop and smoke again. then set it down for a few months then try it again after a year etc... well i recently bought a ego one xl after seeing reviews and love this thing had it for 4 days now and hadn't touched a cig. well my question is and i even when back to the dealer to ask about this. is it supposed to get burning hot when its charging? it literally burns when i pick it up if its on the charger. the shop i got it from says that its normal but from reading about it online people are saying its bad. there is no battery leak and it works perfect battery last me 2 and a half days. the charger i have came with the kit the output on it says 5.0v=1000mA. i just wanna know if i should be scared if this thing is gonna blow up while i sleep or if other people have the same issue.

ps. i am from Michigan but when i got out of the marines i decided to go to school out of the country and found my way to Romania, were i am in the city of Timisoara and there is a small handful of places that sell or deal with e cigs and only 2 actual places you can go to physically see the products. Also sorry about incorrect grammar ect its not easy to write massive pages of writing on a htc one mini

Hi Dan and welcome to VU:) No that is not normal for the battery to get that hot, a little warm maybe, but not as hot as you are describing. I would take it off the charger and stop using it, it is not worth risking an accident, It clearly is a defective battery. You indicated others have told you this as well, so I wouldn't risk it. You need to get a replacement to use. If they aren't easy to obtain in your area or online for you, are there places where you are that sell the disposables? Either way I would be looking into replacing it and toss that one out.Enjoy our forum:)

Welcome to VU!
I don't have an eGo, but I wouldn't think it was normal for it to get too hot to not comfortably hold while charging... warm to the touch, yes, but not hot. How long does it take to charge, does it ever show it fully charged?

Either the battery is bad or the charger is. Either way, I agree with the others and it shouldn't get that hot. I'd take it and the charger back to the shop you got it at so that they can see just how hot it gets.

thanks guys, i went back to the shop "stand in the mall" the only one in my area. i talked to the guy again told him about my conversations with other people that have been vaping and using these devices. he showed me on a few other batteries he has that they all get that hot. he said the reason was is because of the charger it pushes 1amp(for fast charging 2 hours) and not .5amp which is standard and takes up to 6 hours to charge full from empty its still kinda scary how hot it gets. i am going to be trying a different charger with .5amp and see how that works

I call BS on that explanation. My charger is also rated at 1 amp, and none of my stuff gets as hot as you say your's do. If you try with the other charger and it stills gets that hot, please ditch it, and find something else to use for your own safety.

I don't have first hand experience with this situation. But I will say I cant stress enough that if it does continue to get hot - DITCH IT!! My first car fire (I am a firefighter) was a late model buick - this is before I found vape. And the car was parked. The reason for the fire was due to this exact thing. He had an e cig charging in his car that he said after we pulled it out "yeah it's been getting warm lately"

Vaping is great but vaping safely is the most important thing. Do what you have to to stay safe man. I don't want to see you post you lost your apartment to a fire!

You have a faulty battery, and saying that I mean the entire "twist" not the battery inside. The power output of the charger should not be an issue normally, as the charging circuit is supposed to limit the amperage delivered to the battery cell during a recharge. However if something has gone wrong with the charging circuit on the small board inside of the "twist" it could be hitting that AAA-sized lithium ion cell with 1A of continuous charge current which is why it's getting so hot. Bear in mind that most of these smaller batteries are meant to be charged with < 500ma of power.

As stated before though, the circuitry in your device should limit the input power but may have malfunctioned, or be non-existent.

Mine gets a little hot, but not burning hot. It gets very warm for a brief period of time at the base near the usb, then subsides. Are you using the USB charging plug that came with the Ego One? If not, use that one.

Ok, so new update on the thing. went back talked to him he we tried 4 different units and 5 different charging bricks. they all got burning hot like that(also please note that the power difference in Europe is high wye compared to low wye in the states) anyways back to the test. we then used the .5amp charging brick and it was charging and it wasn't hot at all. we even plugged it up to the computer he had at the booth and again wasn't hot. so what he ended up doing was giving me the 0.5amp charging brick and new cable and a new battery but they all did the same. he said he is receiving new stock in about 5 days and we will be testing out the new stock and chargers as well. and if we find one that dose not get hot he will replace it with mine.

On the plus side, it sounds like he wants a happy customer, which is good.

I believe that the standard mains charger with the Ego One is .5 amp, it is in the U.S. version anyway. Is the 220V Euro charger 1 amp?

That sounds like complete and utter BS to me.

From everything I hear, those mall kiosk are the absolute worst place to get your gear from.

The owner is just there for maximum exposure for max profit (by itself not a bad thing) and for the most part they pay peanuts so they get badly trained monkeys. If they are trained at all other than "Dude, this is the best shit EVER!" Can I have your credit card please?

Never heard of ANY eGo style battery charging at 1.0 amps. Normally .375 to .50 amps max! And they sure as hell are not supposed to get more than just slightly warm to the touch while chargeing. Sure as hell not hot!

Granted, I use 18650 batteries, just larger versions of what is inside of the eGo's and I charge them at a full 1.0 amps and they don't get much warmer than room temp when charging.

I could always be wrong (doubt it though) but you seem to be dealing with a tall chimp with just enough flawed knowledge to take your money. Find someplace else to take your business to where they know what they are talking about and will stand behind their products and recommendations!

Ego One UncleRJ, charges via USB.

Yes, Evil Spock I know.

Because I have one and I can vouch for the fact that it does not burn my fingers while charging!

I was just trying to make a point about batteries should not get hot enough to cause you discomfort at any time during or right after the charge cycle.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:p:D:D:D:D:D:D:eek:

its the ego one xl the battery size is 2200mah and yes the charger i got with it is rated at 1amp output and he said it is for fast charging. the charger recommended apparently is the 0.5amp output. which he did give me for free

I will gladly take back what I said about your guy not being helpful. I wish I could say the same about the rest.

But it still should not get hot!

As far as other physical establishments to purchase from, if not available in your area, we have this wonderful thing called the internet which will allow you to go over the credit limit of your card in no time flat!:D:D

lol i like that, however most companies are in the states, Canada or UK. and the customs price for getting something shipped here is expensive. i got a 300 dollar anatomy book sent 3 years ago for my first year of school and i paid $90 dollars for my package to clear customs thats like 30% of the price of the book! thieves i cant afford that lol i dont work im a student living on saved money

The use the .5 amp charger. Looks like you solved the issue. It will prolong the longevity of the battery over the 1 amp charger.

I know I am late to the party and it's been awhile since I owned an ego...but I've lived in Europe and I know the cost of getting things from the states to anywhere there is stupid.... but sometimes it's an necessary evil. It's true I haven't bought an ego battery for over a year...but I still have over half a dozen ego's, 3 GoGo's, and 2 vGo 808's (that were the biggest waste of money I've ever spent on vaping,) and they all charge at 500 mA's or less. My point being I doubt that the recommended and rated charger power settings has changed....if you're using a 1A "quick charger" and it's getting that hot than it sounds like something bad waiting to happen because either the charging board in your eGo doesn't regulate incoming power or it can accept that kind of power but your battery can't. I would look up your eGo's max amp output if you can find it. Most old eGo's were 2.5-3.5 amps....they charged safely at about 20 percent of that. I am guessing from the sound of it things haven't changed much in that respect.

I hope the new shipment came in and there was something different for you to choose from that is safer...otherwise I would just use the slower charger and be safe than burn your fingers for a quicker charge time and get a second ego unit so you always have one charged and the longer charge time isn't a big deal. Safety first, vape second.

I wish you the best of luck my friend and sorry you're in that shitty position with trying to get some good gear compared to the import tariff to get it....do you have a friend back here that you can buy something and have it shipped to them and then they send it to you declared as a "gift"? That's how we got around paying a lot of the duties shipping stuff to Switzerland from the states...they can't tariff stuff nearly as high if at all if someone bought it for you as a gift. I learned that when I shipped my old swiss "handy" back to my ex and forgot to declare it...usually what would have cost like 20 bucks cost 80 for her in duty because I forgot to declare it "gift" instead of "personal property" even though it was bought in that county they still made her pay...it was bullshit. How things are declared can make or break your savings.... just a thought to try and help :)
