I got mine from a local smoke shop and probably paid to much . if you buy the weights and calibrate them you should be fine.

@wllmc Do you have any plans on carrying NIC (VT), PG & VG along with flavorings? Every time I've gone to place an order, BCV has been out of VT 100mg/ml NIC. So I order directly from VT but go elsewhere for flavorings, PG & VG. Since my initial DIY order, I have yet to meet the free shipping threshold. Are vendors mostly repackaging Essential Depot's PG & VG? Thanks and congrats on Momma J's!
since you tagged me I think its ok to answer these questions here , next time maybe just ask in vendor thread so I dont get in trouble :) Im not sure where Im headed ultimately right now with flavoring. I know I probably wont offer full lines of anything else but flavor art. if things become requested a lot like the ginger or the malt I have coming in I'll keep them in stock. The focus of Mama J's will always be Specialty flavorings. stuff thats unique and or hard to get. There are a ton of places to get all the other stuff but only 1 place that offers what I do ;) as for nic no I have no plans on ever stocking it. I may in the future do PG and VG but not any time soon. not sure about the other guys PG and VG but I can tell you personally I use E.D. direct not the amazon stuff and love it.

Mostly what I see on amazon are cheap portable scales that are less than 20 bucks. I have a hard time believing that a 20 dollar scale is going to work well and last.
I'm looking through the scales at Amazon and I don't see the exact one I got. @AmandaD and @RocketPuppy have the same one I have. Rocket recommended this one to me. It's made by Horizon, it's a pocket size scale, measures to .01 grams. It was like $15 and I've had zero issues with mine.

Is it me or FA Maple doesn't age well. The taste is spot on after a little shake but a week after, I get a real nasty bitter burnt sugar taste out of it even at low dosage .25% This really pisses me off.
I'm not sure if htis is your problem, but when I have overdone it with FA Maple, I have gotten a soapy taste. Diluting it works for me at that point.

I have the same Magma, which I also use with a single coil! It's awesome, and it has a huge juice well.

If you are shopping on fasttech, I have one of these I use to test flavours. It's a Magma clone - costs $15.79. Drippers are usually made for flavour or big clouds, this one excels at flavour. You can build 1 or 2 coils - it works perfectly either way. You put the coil wires through the holes in the posts so there are no finicky little screws to wrap around. Very easy to build and use. I use a 1.3 ohm 2mm 28 gauge coil at 11 watts with the smallest airflow hole. You only need huge amounts of power if you open up the airflow to blow clouds.

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10008103/1718100-magma-styled-rebuildable-dripping-atomizer
I've been using a Magma (my first and only RDA) to test flavors. I made a whole bunch of 5ml bottles of single flavors, mostly FA and Flavorah, and have been testing them individually--a thing I wanted to do with FA out of the gate but was too impatient. Anyway, I've been trying to get a sense of how certain flavors go together by adding them both (or sometimes three) into the dripper at one time, but I'm not sure it's working out too well. I try to sort of mix them up in the well, since there is a fair amount of room there, and sometimes I feel like I'm getting the effect of both, but mostly what I think I'm getting is the flavors one after the other. Does anybody have thoughts about using a dripper to test flavors together this way? Is it a lost cause? It would be so nice if there were an easy way to do it, instead of having to mix whole new bottles for every combination.

Maybe try dropping 3 or for drips of each flavor into a 3 ml bottle. Then shake em really good. Then drip that little bottle?

@RocketPuppy uses one like that and can give you the link. (I have it myself somewhere but cannot locate it). I keep wanting to buy one and switch to mixing by weight but keep chickening out.

That's an excellent idea, thank you. I may be too lazy even for that tonight, but will try it out :)

I'm playing around with FA fresh fig,and per recommendation I haven't mixed it above 3%...I was wondering if anyone has used this flavoring and what % they think work well for it,I'm mixing it with a couple of other flavors but I want the fig to standout more than the other flavors.

Good luck with that. I find fig such a subtle (yet delicious) flavor that mixing with most things would just bury it at any reasonable percentage. HIC has a recipe in the recipe thread that uses it, but I've yet to try it.

Just need to figure out how to use it as a verb an adjective.
Careful, Rocket Puppy, or I'll ad that in a piedly manner.

Hummmmm. Ignore this post. Somehow everything was marked unread and I was sent to the beginning of the thread from my email account and I started answering unread posts. Oops. Weird.

Just signed up to tell you – Wow!! I am so excited for you wllmc, Mamaj’sjuice and HIC!!!

Over the last weeks I’ve been absorbing everything in the remarkable FA thread on the old site and I’m now up to August 10, 2014 (page 36) on this wonderful new thread, making copious notes as I go.

Today, I thought it was about time I ordered all those little FA concentrate sample bottles (they’re not available in Australia) and, even though you don’t ship here, I’m over the moon to have come across your shop in the search.

Congratulations wllmc, Jessica and HIC!!! You have given so generously and passionately over the years. You deserve the best and I wish you every success for the future. Also a big thank you to all the contributors on the thread. I am learning so much and you’re all so much fun – A1+!

Thank you wllmc. I was back reading on page 36 again when I saw the little number pop up. I didn't expect a post so soon. Thought you'd all be in bed asleep lol.

Yes, I've been doing a heap of reading. Had to put my husband and household on hold. It's all so interesting and I'm having a ball.

That will be great if you can get the flavours to me. I didn't expect that either, so thank you again. I'll go set up an account now.

Pretty excited, just got vape mail and in it is 12 new flavours I haven't tried :).

Just wondering how everyone tests out new flavours.

Was planning on mixing at 2% and giving them all a solo taste test.
However, cotton takes a while to break in and breaking it in for 12 different flavours will be disguisting.

How does everyone get around this?

Rayon, lol.

I make mine at 2%, too, unless I've read that it's super strong.

Really hard to find Rayon in New Zealand. Might have to bite the bullet and buy it off ebay usa and pay a lot for postage.
For now i'll have to work with silica wicks I think as it's easier to change flavours on.

Have mixed fuji, lemon sicily and vienna cream at 2% to start.

Lemon sicily is so fraking delicious I can't believe it. Can definitely see it being a standalone vape for me, and makes me excited to get working on a lemon meringue pie.

Fuji's a very realistic apple. Thinking it will go well in apple pie and in various fruit juices.

Vienna cream seems like it will be good to add sweet creaminess and mouth feel to recipes.

Can't wait to try the rest but need to pickup some more vg and pg before I do. Will get that tomorrow hopefully and have a good time this weekend playing around with flavours.

Have you tried Organic Cotton Balls yet, way better than Silica IMO.
(I think it's almost the same as Rayon, and yes I've used both).

& what about Jap org cotton? What's the diff between org cotton, rayon, and jap? Is it just personal preference, or is there more too it.?

It's another one of those "controversial" topics.
Rayon has a little better taste but is harder to get the correct amount in the coil, ie fussy.
Some get the "cotton taste" and so prefer Rayon, and less/no break in time.
Never tried Jap Cotton, some do rave about it tho.
Organic cotton hasn't been sprayed for bugs, etc.
And usually they use hydrogen peroxide (H202) to whiten/clean.
Same as water (H20) but with one extra oxygen molecule (safe IMO but some will disagree).

I didn't realize there are cotton connoisseurs or that cotton grew any differently in Japan than in Texas. Now I wonder if there are hard-core cotton fans growing their own to ensure top quality.

I started with Rayon balls and the only niggle is getting a consistant density. Not really hard but a concern when creating the wick. I then bought Jap Organic Cotton Pads from Amazon that you can just cut a strip from. Very easy to use and good wicking and flavor but I still find Rayon superior. Great taste quick flavor change and lasts a long time.

I've used the Japanese cotton. I thought the flavor was good, very clean, easy to work with, BUT, I had to re-wick way more frequently. After I tried Rayon, I pif'd the Japanese cotton.

Thanks for info. I've only had stock coils and now the jap cotton...as it looked easy. At least it's all cotton as I'm allergic to wool. Haha! I can easy buy rayon at local sallys. I'll see if they have organic cotton. Congrats @misswish ! Got son n law vaping. Even built him a dual coil for his dripper. That was scary, but successful. Husband is still on stinkys. He says I smell like dirty feet. I tell him he smells like a musty ashtray. Ahhh, the compliments. Maybe I'll grow me some cotton. Jk

Hello fellow mixing fans/geniuses,

Last night I was bobbing around online and starting watching a YouTube video from VPLive; DIY Safety Ep. #82.
Since we are on the subject of "controversial" topics, I am wondering about Cinnamic Aldehyde and the few facts that the PhD Chemist Dr. Kurt Kistler threw out about it. He said "Cinnamaldehyde is a known lung tissue/mucous membrane irritant".
Now, I've made a few juices with FA Cinnamon Ceylon, and enjoyed them much more after a little steeping. The usage is not the main point I'm trying to get at, there is no judgement here in the use of that flavor, obviously it's all our choice and freedom to mix as we wish.
  • My main point is that I'd like to hear from the more experienced users of this flavor; how you feel about the fact that, One of the main ingredients used to produce this flavor is comprised of cinnamic aldehyde which "is a natural and key component of any cinnamon flavor or real spice" (that quote came directly from a specific email I sent to FlavourArt on their corporate website, which was responded to today).
  • Does anyone see the need to keep a flavor such as this one in a much cooler environment due to the natural components?
  • Would you move this flavor in particular into a glass storage bottle rather than the PET bottles that most of our 10ml flavors come in?

If this post was annoying to you, just roll your eyes and VAPE ON!:cool:
