I have run into a situation where I tried the 'piece of electrical tape' trick and the button was too tight. I believe it was a JMK stainless button. Although it didn't fire, I could tell the switch was partially depressed and there was almost no travel. It made me a bit nervous. So I rounded the little nub with a wire brush on a dremel tool and all was good.
Rounding the nub off occurred to me too, but it seemed that the tape would be softer. I haven't had a problem with any being too long yet. I do have a brass JMK button though. Next time I put it in I'll check it out.

You should be able to feel if it is sharp or not. The JMK stainless were sharp like little hole punches. :cuss:

So I had a major learning experience today. I received two authentic Titanium Haku Xetas this past Friday. One anodized blue and the other anodized gunmetal or very dark grey. The blue one was ordered specifically for the Kurbis Billet Box.

So today seemed like a perfect day to build the blue Xeta and install in my Kurbis. I've had good results with SS316L 2.5mm 7 wrap 28/40 ga. dual fused captions. They allow me to run temp control in my BB's which is what I prefer for it's consistency. Except for this time.

After a few hits things didn't seem right. I have my displays setup to display Battery Charge % on the screen when in Watt mode. I noticed that even though I was in TC mode the Battery Charge % was displaying. Investigating further I noticed that while taking a hit, rather than flashing 'Temperature Protected', (the infamous message much misunderstood as an error), OFF would display. Reading the DNA60 documentation didn't come up with anything so I posted on the Evolv forum.

Without writing a book I discovered, after completely scrubbing the Kurbis positive contact and 510 threads as well as two different builds in the blue Xeta and then modifying and building the gunmetal Xeta, that the anodizing on the coil mounting posts interferes with TC in the Billet Box. The floating block on the Xeta is not anodized but the underside of the post where it contacts the coil lead is. On the gunmetal Xeta I used an emory board to sand off the anodizing in this area. I then built that Xeta with a coil that did not work for TC in the blue Xeta. And it works great.

I did not realize that the final production version of the Xeta is only a few months old. It looks like Haku has some bugs to work out. I will say that the machining and the finish are absolutely gorgeous.

I still haven't modified the blue Xeta. I'm reluctantly vaping it in Watt mode for now.

On the other side of that spectrum I find the same holds true for voltage applied to coils in RDAs with plating or coating on their 510pin or clamps.

Almost every RDA I get for my mechs, I’ll build my same coils, slap on my hardest hitting mech and do a comparison to my hardest hitting set up...

I ALWAYS end up stripping and polishing the contacts on the clamps and 510 pin to regain the Inherent loss, or at least some.

Many of great designed and experience RDAs I’ve liquidated due to being poopy in the totality of vape experience (Looks, design, vape quality, performance)

I have had good success with TC in my rat black with Ti1 wire in the past with the Xeta. I have a feeling that you're not all that sympathetic to cloning, which I respect, but I have to mention that all my stuff is SXK and YFTK. I think you knew that already though anyway.

For the reason that you and @~Don~ give, I have never liked coating of any kind on any of the contact surfaces in my atomizers. There are some available for the Unicorn for instance. Not my thing.

There's a couple guys over there on the Evolv forums who really do know their DNA stuff. If I had to guess, it was probably Wayneo or retired (spelling?) who got you hooked up.

If it were me (which obviously it's not) I'd get the anodizing off anywhere the mating surfaces conduct electricity. A rotary tool and polishing wheel work wonders for me.

I don’t think the color way is rare, now how often they will use mother of pearl again anytime soon with their current trend?

A four day old Paua Bluebald. The picture doesn't do the button justice.

upload_2020-5-26_4-51-45.jpeg

The past few weekly drops at BBV have started to have the button selections again. I don't know how rare a 2017 would be. Did the 2017 have the DNA60 or did it use the DNA40?

I have some Ti1 but I don't like working with it. I get better flavor/results with the little SS316L fused captions. But part of the issue with the Xeta was that I was using the SS 316L which makes temp control much tougher. The DNA60 chip is generally really good at TC. I use TC with my EUC Ceramic coils and it usually works flawlessly until just before it gunks up. I have more problems with DNA75C and DNA250C mods using sub ohm attys that use disposable coils.

They look like they are the same color. Mine looks darker because of different lighting. It is more like a Teal than a blue.

I don't know when they switched to the DNA60. But I read that the Rev.4 BB started with a DNA40.

The conversions to a dicodes chip that I have seen used the BF60. I don't think that it has anything on the DNA60. I have a number dicodes mods and if I had a choice between the two chips I would take the DNA60. Now if someone was getting the 80W dicodes into a BB I might be interested. :vino:

I scored a Fashion Nugget on Saturday. The Fashion Nugget is the only Billet Box available with a Gold MOP button.

I didn't realize that when I made the purchase. I just wanted another MOP.

Fash_Nug__40250.1501925179.350.350.jpg

Was there anyone else that scored on last Saturday's drop? For some reason it was 10 minutes late! Usually it runs like clockwork. I was beginning to think that I was blocked. Damn near put me in a panic.

Here's something else that I've been watching:

4/25/20 RNB f-u order #65036
5/2/20 RPG order #65359 +323
5/9/20 Kurbis order #65711 +352
5/16/20 Paua Bluebald order #66098 +387
5/23/20 Fashion Nugget order #66469 +371

Certainly not all of the BBV orders are for Billet Boxes. So it looks like they are selling just over 300 units per week online. They must also sell to wholesalers. But even if they sell 1,000 units per week that's only $1.35M in annual sales. Heck, if they sell double that amount it's still a small business that supports perhaps a couple dozen local workers.

That doesn't pay for much in a manufacturing business. Nobody's getting rich at BBV.

My damn sxk mission tips and vapesnail plugs just sitting most times when it hit the u.s. I have it in 3daysView attachment 161773
I ordered a Vapesnail kit, a Brig'd and a bunch of other stuff from Fasttech and paid the obscene price for DHL shipping. It sat in Hong Kong for 10 days and just left the airport there this morning.

I have a 3F order that shipped on the 4th of April and hasn't left Shenzen yet.

I have 9 orders sitting either in the Detroit hub 20 miles away or my local PO, 2 miles away, a few for going on 2 weeks and most for at least a couple days.

Every so often one gets delivered.

All bets are off with anything having to do with shipping and delivery these days.

If they sell 1000 units a week, standard 50 week year, thats 50000 units with an average sale price of $264 thats 13.2 million

Scale that down to match your 1.35m annual... thats 100ish units a week at 50 weeks

This is purely based on selling Billet Boxes only.

I don't think they can pump 1000 units a week... not that I know their process or capabilities, but even using 5 axis with a yield plate of 48x48 that would still take hours (4) to pump out 16 raw boxes... say they do 2 runs a day, thats 32...x3 days (need days to assemble, paint etc) so theyre at 96 units... which is about what I think they do

16 raw boxes on a 48x48 allows 6 inches per box to be milled, although the boxes are only 4 ish inches, tool pathing etc.

Morning Coffee thoughts... could be way off the mark on everything, probably am lol... didn't account for material costs, warehouse costs, wages... which easily can make things look worse...BUT!

If china can do a BB and sell it for 50-70% differential, then their profit margin can't be way off and they are doing well if 50 or 100 or the magical 1000 a week ;)

I never thought they were. What I did think though is that they are instantaneously selling all they can make. Or at least all they care to make. Cloning has no negative financial impact on BBV at all. If anything, it's a gateway to BBV sales as a fair number of folks start with an SXK and wind up buying at least one authentic as a result.

If there were authentic units sitting in the shop unsold because people were buying clones instead that would be a different story.

Well, there is, or at least could be that. I have no clue what Evolv's manufacturing capabilities are, but they are certainly going to sell to whoever can pay for their boards.

My thoughts were all 'pie in the sky'. More to see where the numbers might go.

It sounds like you have some experience in a machine shop. Your numbers would lean more towards less than half the 1,000 units per week.

One of the things that I notice about the OG Billet Box is the attention to detail and it's level of quality. The more I learn about the company's history, it's size and it's products; the more it reveals about the attention to detail and passion that the people have. All for a little e-cig. My comment about nobody getting rich was just a cliche really.

Their limiting factor is DNA boards... everything else they make in house afaik.

I have heard other comments in different places that DNA boards are not available in abundant quantities. But my guess would be that DNA60's are not a limiting factor for BBV in their current state. They probably have a pretty tight relationship with Evolv.

I think limitations on the DNA60 is... its an older proven board, but not one Evolv is pushing as much as the DNA75C or 250C... its just one lower wattage niche manufactures prefer due to its footprint.

I couldn't even begin to name the dozens of boutique designers on the higher end scale prefer the DNA 60 over every other board...

I vaguely remember watching a video of Evolv where they talked about how many boards they can pump out a week... it was near 250k... but they also made more than DNA, they manufactured proprietary boards for Inokin and other manufactures at one time or still may.

Either way... BB is nice, just wish they would make a 21700 version with a larger boro ;) 2x2x1mm increase in size would allow 21700s and 8ml boros... heck a height change of 2mm and thickness 1mm would allow for a 8ml boro

Honestly, somewhere in there is about what I would have guessed. I take their word that there is a good bit of handmade workmanship in there. Especially in the soldering and assembly. Unless you have a sizable workforce of capable employees, there's only so many you can produce and maintain their universally recognized level of quality.

If this is the case then in my opinion it is unwise from a business standpoint Isn't the object to sell your product and make money? Who cares how old something is. If it still sells in sufficient enough numbers, that's all that matters.

We're vaporizing eliquid on a heating element for Pete's sake. It's not like the computing world proper where 50 years from now that will be significantly more advanced than it is now. We do it just fine with devices that have NO electronics whatsoever after all.

Well... I think the 1969 Mustang Boss 429 is the best mustang that Ford every produced, with the 68 GT500 KR in a close second ;)

If either was still produced even in limiting numbers, they'd sell like hotcakes... I for one would pay out the nose for the top one ;)

But what seems after year 1970.5 (with the 1971 mustang)... the Mustang went poopy, til recently, which by all means is heads above in terms of performance, but nothing in my humble opinion beats the two I pictured...

They produce the DNA60, but when is the last time outside of the BB and or FB you see mainstream mods use anything from Evolv but the C variants? It makes more money for them.

Back to me drooling over that boss 429 LOL

Much better balance and went on to dominate TransAm racing.

But if someone offered to give me one of the others I would certainly take it. :bliss:

Yeah the Boss 302 would be a close #3

Only reason for me on the 429 is for it’s a Hemi.

290hp/290ftlb/3300lbs- Boss 302
375hp/450ftlb/3400lbs- Boss 429

Haha, that's what i have on the way,is the red one haha,i just hope it isn't as disappointing as the purple was.Although,if you want black, give it a few days, they restock pretty quick.I wanted a black one, seen they had 20 on a Tuesday, went there on Thursday when i got paid, and they were out.By the next Thursday, they had over 20 available again.

For a red mod it is actually very nice looking. It is a bright red on brushed aluminum billet. It is much more vibrant than the Billet Box Fawkes.

Yeah, I just have these RDAs that aren't mech performers... they vape fine... so I figured to get a decent Mod that can hold 28mm and 30mm RDAs.

I was able to improve the Ultem Nightmare RDA I bought, stripping and polishing contacts and stripping 510 pin of its coating... 3.7v to 3.76v, but it still lacks behind my Asgard Mini...Yeah yeah .07v difference... but I saw it, can't unsee it lol

.11Ω 3.76v is 128.52w
.11Ω 3.83v is 133.35w

4w and some change!

Yeah I know, can't tell 4 watts... But this Chink can! Yup, I can ;) Cause this fool sticks a multimeter on everything! lol
