Sore throat while vaping. Is it normal?

Hi guys, im new here. Nice to meet you all (hope you're all fine).

I've been using vape as an alternative to cigarettes for 6 months now, and it is working quite well, as im smoking less cigarettes. However, I have been bothered by sore throat, happening with moderate frequency (every 2 weeks or less, depends).

Before I didn't have this symptom, I didn't even get the flu often. Could sore throat have to do with vaping?

Can you let us what your juice ratios happen to be?

How much PG?

How much VG?

Nicotine strength?

Can you also explain your gear setup?

What kind of coil are you using? Stainless Steel / Kanthal / NiChrome / Combo of these?

What oHm rate does your coil/s read out as being? 1.0 oHm / 0.5 oHm Less / more?

Are you running a regulated device? If so, what wattage?

Are you getting spit back?

I know these seem a lot of questions to ask in response to your concern. Please comprehend we cannot accurately diagnose, or at least speculate a reasonable hypothesis without data answers to these questions provide.

Some have allergies to Pg or Vg, so knowing that helps for example. Some vape too strong a nicotine level and it could irritate. Your gear might be causing too much heat, again an irritant. We don't know beyond you asking "is my vape making throat sore?" Well, yes it is possible but then it is possible Earth resides in a black hole. So, what do you do?

Also why conflate flu with sore throat? Trying to be dramatic in an effort to frighten? Sorry, no that doesn't play here. Vaping is largely done with inert chemicals that have anti-microbial properties. This means vaping in general lends more toward fending off any disease than being a vector for them. Will excuse ignorance, try to not repeat the mistake, thanks. :)

I apologize if my posts in this thread seem rude, crass, demeaning. None of that is intended. Still the core of what people need to know to help the original poster dwells in my questions below.

What you do is ask questions and get all the data you can. No, you don't want information because information follows a narrative. Someone else has set data up to convey their story, their brand, their ideology. Even coming new into vaping us, the "old hands" at it do not expect newbies to blindly jump in. You should know some of the basics outlined in my questions above.

Data note the first word of the definition, it is what I mean when I write or say data. Information has this definition, what you learn is filtered by your perceptions of what it is you learned. That may seem rather like the movie Inception but also is rather the truth as objectively as I can convey it, of the two definitions. Information then is tainted data and often this tainting winds up not serving any good purpose, though I suppose that can rely upon intention too.

You also should know we don't vape anti-freeze, or use but a few chemicals to make ejuice. In that knowledge you ought to ascertain too, what we are using is stuff know as G.R.A.S. (Generally Recognized As Safe). Vaping is not about eliminating nicotine dependence or use, either. Many vape nicotine based juices, many vape no nicotine in their juices. What vaping is about is risk reduction. This means what we're using in our bodies is less of a risk than from 40,000 or so chemicals found in cigarettes with at least 14,000 of those being toxic, or carcinogens.

Yes we run some risk with batteries. For the most part though if a person uses a little good judgement, responsibility the risks involved with batteries is mitigated to little. Respect the power of batteries for sure. The same way you respect the power of a chain saw, or gun.

This is what I'm conveying then, help us help you by giving us the relevant facts of your vaping experience. Otherwise people can speculate until blue in the face yet still get nowhere toward a solution of any problems.

Smoking cigarettes is known to do all kinds of nasty stuff to humans. You have a sore throat. You smoke cigarettes.
I was thinking the same thing. When I was still dual using I had a lot of issues with the throat. But the throat gets used to 6mg or whatever strength you're vaping then goes right back to the harshness of a cigarette then back to vape. It's hell on your throat for sure

In addition, I'm pretty sure I read something saying that vaping while smoking will not mitigate any of the harm from smoking, other than what would be expected if the number of cigs decreased.

Hey man, hope you are fine.

I think maybe my question was poorly worded, I really admit to being a noob lol

I will try to be more consistent on my writing next time.

Cheers.

Hey veteran, hope you are ok!

Thanks for the thoughts, you really write well.

I apologize if I was a little inconsistent in my question. I really am a noob, of course.

I will try to answer the information you asked for in the best possible way.

-Usually a 60/40 proportion of VG/PG, respectively.
-Nicotine strength 20mg-40mg
-I use pretty basic stuff (i still new on this whole rich vape universe), a Smok Nord Kit
-Stainless steel coil (basic)
-0.6 Ohm
-Yeah, 1100 mAh
-Sometimes i got spitback, but not today. In the beginning it was a real problem, but i got over it.

Hope my answers are help.

Very useful info.

I will stop switching between vape and cigarettes, as i thought (wrongfully) that it would work for stopping addiction. Better to just try the vape for as long as possible and see how things go.

Well, I think I stay in a state of could be. I could be better, or worse. :) Rather think of the better and keep on keeping on. :) Kind of pains one thinking of the worse.

Yes, been told that about how I write. Oddly though I've not managed to use it to rub two nickles together. It might happen, might not. At the least it's something I can understand and hope others reading do as well. :)

We all start out new. I once used to get hoots out of blazing my wick. Oh it was funner than whooping my dog. So I thought until I realized it just might scorch my lips doing that. *chuckles* Besides that I don't whoop my dog anyway, so as fun as it may have seemed, it was soon clear it wasn't.

Your Vg & Pg look good. I use max Vg which is roughly 90% or a little more of Vg. If I don't add any flavorings, I figure it is roughly 95-98%. Mind anyone, I'm not exactly classing myself as a "cloud chaser". I enjoy the mellowness of the Vg but have used a 50/50 mix all the same. I'm a moderate vaper who enjoys modest clouds, modest flavor, finding a happy medium in it all.

Nicotine, ah. That's more than I run but if it's what you feel you need then right on. I run 18 mg per ml and have since using evod style tanks. I now use RDAs and sub-ohm, still using 18mh per ml. This may be something to consider. You might want to drop your nicotine strength. Sometimes nicotine can be an irritant if too strong. Still this is for you to work out for yourself. Not going to tell you you got to drop your strength. This is a special feature vaping has over cigarettes, we got all kinds of choices. :)

Not too keen on the newer pod style devices myself. Again that's a matter of preference. I read some are good or bad as with everything in life. Like to steer folks to avoiding closed pod systems. If you use those you're locked into whatever the supplier puts in the mix inside. Use something refillable instead. Get to know what you run for your juice so you don't get something nasty slipped in. Even if you only use juice from a trusted vendor, you still keep a level of control using refillable gear.

Stainless is good material. I swap between it and Kanthal. Don't use NiChrome too much. One thing to watch in your pulse heating of steel don't get a sustained temperature over 19,000 F, try staying lower than that or 25,000 F for Kanthal. More often than not though our "pulsing" heat through our coils doesn't get, or stay hot enough to release toxins with our vapor.

It's still one of those odd facts to bear in mind, contrary to the new PSA adverts running on the Tell Lie Vision. "Oh the horrors! You're vaping all kinds of heavy metals! Think of the damage to your lungs!" D'oh on you Tell Lie Vision ads, I already did and went and looked stuff up to see for myself. *grin* One day I might get a mind, or maybe not. It could be dangerous. :)

I'm running about a 0.6 ohm coil presently. It's reading 0.63 but I'll round it to 0.60. Sometimes I drop to 0.30 but try not going much lower than that. A good range I find is between 0.30 to roughly 0.50. This works for me well on mechanical devices and regulated ones. It doesn't get too hot for me to vape and gives me enough flavor. I like running single coil setups too. Don't see any difference using a dual coil setup, only more to contend with to get a vape right for myself.

Well about all I see might be your nicotine strength. You can try lowering it and see if that takes away some throat irritation. If it does that might be what was a cause. Sorry if I appear to use words which leave some ambiguity, like seems, might. We kind of have need to do that though as vaping is rather subjective. What works for me may, or may not work for you. If you find what suits you, don't let anyone tell you your way is wrong. Now listen if they're informing you of battery safety, or safety issues sure. There may be something to what they're saying. You can usually tell in how they convey it. :)

Yes, nicotine is addictive. Coffee / caffeine is as well. As long as you don't over do either one though you're reasonably safe. That's about where nicotine stands too, like coffee. At least if you vape you reduce the risks that come from using cigarettes. We're told vaping is about 95% less harmful by National Institute of Health from the U.K., not that such a prestigious source be trusted here in the U.S. of course. Nicotine on its own does not cause cancer in case you wonder. It's all the added *cough*shit*cough* they put with commercially processed tobacco what does that.

They clean out factory farm chicken houses with formaldehyde and industrial bleach for example, and it's used in your cigarettes too to amp up the nicotine charge. And yes formaldehyde is naturally released into the air anyway, but not in the concentrates found in cigarettes. --- Here let me tack this on. I'm not a doctor or scientest nor pretending to be. I'm just a dumb Hillbilly what likes reading Bazooka Joe cartoons on gum wrappers. ;) As Joe says, "the more ya know!"

Thanks for the excellent analysis, friend. Very detailed and very useful, really.

I finally got what I needed. I will continue here and learn as much as I can.

Once again, thank you for your attention. Cheers!

Agree with the others, Dual fueling probably the issue.
@MyMagicMist Wow that brings back childhood memories. I used to buy Bazooka Joe gum and thought the cartoons were cool too. :D
Remember these? Pretty sure they came from the US too.

Yeah they're the type we got.
Hey remember this stuff on the back pages of comics? :D

Man was I ever dissapointed when my Sea monkeys just turned out to look like tiny swimming fleas! :(

Yep I recall some of that. And what I don't recall I know of from collecting comic books for a while. Unfortunately now I'm looking toward selling a collection. Know a rough estimated value I had was around $5,000 about two decades ago. I added to that collection. Wouldn't have any thing other than a rough estimate of maybe $7,000 to $9,000. Not got them graded but I'm sure most are fair to very good quality and would likely guess a rough good grade overall. I read 'em, put 'em up, took some out reread put back up.

I got a series though I will keep, I'm keeping my Ninjack damn it. My wife agreed. Take all my x-men, X titles, superman, Iron Man ... fine. Not getting Ninjack. No, not saying you specifically take them, just a general take 'em. I just got out of collecting comics. Everything seemed to get Disney-ifed or sent to CGI crap shops in Hong Kong. There's no more art in comic books, not like there had been.

The x-ray glasses didn't work either. They just turned my hand red but take the glasses off and it was back to normal. *sniffs* They could have least mutated me more.

Hey.. Mate

According my experience Usually..It will happen due to regular vaping. using much VG/PG (70% of VG/PG) can make throat dry and one can get throat irritation, A good mid range liquid is 40 PG/60 VG is fine.
