Nine days smoke free

Hey guys. I’ve been a vaper off and on since about 2013. I juggled between 1-3 packs a day since I was 15 years old (and they say vape flavors attract kids). I started smoking when I was 8 years old. I’d smoke anything I could steal from my older brother, my parents or the grocery store (raised in the ghetto) until my dad and I shared a cigarette together when he got out of prison. It was his way of bonding with me again because of all of the time lost. Then he supplied them to me. I’m 34 now. I recently (on January 24th, 2020 at 8:30 am) decided to have my last cigarette. It was probably the hardest thing for me to do, as most of you may know from your experiences. Having a cigarette with my dad was about as special as any other son having a beer with his dad. But cigarettes eventually took him away from me and my family.

The reason for my decision to be serious about it this time, is because my dad died last October 11th from chemotherapy and radiation, due to stage 4 small cell carcinoma lung cancer. The same as my grandpa back in 2009. They were both lifelong smokers as well. I saw him suffer and wither away to nothing after he went through 10 rounds of radiation in a row at The Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL. The cancer had spread to other parts of his body, including his brain. He was the strongest man I knew. Still is. The chemo started to kill off the cells, but then “stopped working”. The cancer was so aggressive, that his right lung was collapsing due to fluid buildup. They drained a liter of fluid from around his lung, then had to drain another liter the next day. We eventually had to start at-home hospice care because he was out of his mind, weak, not eating, and his oxygen level was rapidly decreasing. I don’t want my kids to see what I saw.

In 2014, I decided to start my own ejuice company, Inascent Vapors, LLC. I took the name from my dad. He owned a candle business on the side, Inascent Candles & Body Sprays. He came up with the name and was proud of it. So I decided to carry it on with a different product. We were put out of business in 2017 because of the regulations here in Indiana, but I’m still proud of mine and my wife’s accomplishments with the business. We were vendors at the first (and only) vape expo in St. Louis back in early 2016. We were right next to Vape Magazine, Beard Vape Co, and across from Adirondack Vapors. It was a blast.

Pray for me or wish me luck on my journey to stay smoke free. I’m only 9 days in and my cravings are horrible.

I pray we still have time to fight for our right to vape. I’m building my vape collection back up since I sold and gave away all of my good gear when I stopped vaping a couple of years ago.

Anyways, this post is long enough. Just wanted to introduce myself and say hey.

Hi and Welcome-
Congrats on quitting smoking by vaping!
Hang in there and don't give up! Prayers to you to stay strong and quit cigarettes for good this time!
The 1st month was hard for me, but will power and vaping helped me stay strong!
I just had my 5 year Vaperversary( December 1, 2014)- not one single cigarette, which is amazing since I tried and failed to quit smoking so many times in my 30+ years of smoking! No easy feat since my husband is still a smoker(dual user)- but the stench of cigarettes repulses me now!
I know Lung Cancer and sorry for your loss of your Dad and Grandfather. I lost my Non- smoking 48 year old sister to Stage 4 Lung Cancer in 2007- just horrible and I was outside in the hospital parking lot smoking while she fought for her last breaths. Her Cancer was so aggressive that she died 6 months after her diagnosis- watched her suffer with Chemo and Radiation-
I had to quit cigarettes and with Vaping and will power I found the way out of my cigarette addiction!
Stay Strong and Vape On!

Thank you. And I’m sorry about your sister. It’s never easy. My dad died 4 months after his diagnosis. But he was experiencing problems maybe 6 months before his diagnosis. He was too scared to go to the doctor. If I could go back in time, I’d slap his hand every time he lit one up. I can’t blame it all on smoking though. He worked at a polymer factory dealing with melted plastic, as well as other places that probably didn’t follow OSHA regulations when dealing with air quality and exposing yourself to chemicals.

It gets easier 4 sure. Took me a lil bit b4 i 4got about ciggs and found pure nicotine hevan in vaping. This prob sounds bad but i went to vape to up my nicotine addiction.

I really don’t see a problem with nicotine. It’s even in fruits and vegetables.

Recently read on a vaping blog somewhere there was a factual & peer reviewed independent scientific study regarding nicotine in cigarettes. This concluded that on average each cigarette, brand name or generic contains about 2 mg of nicotine which can be absorbed. So per pack there's 40 mg on average.

Have seen BT now pushing devices with 1 ml pods / tanks / containers having 24 mg. It would seem to them an ideal market. There again, we all pretty well know they've their own plan, erm grab for profit. Not saying that is good or bad. Get a feeling though in how they intend, well it'll be bad. If they intended and implemented in a way more congenial to society's mores, it might be good.

Yes it boils to intention & motivation. If the motivation is greed and intent is to dominate then, the well gets poisoned for all. If the motivation is altruism and intent is to build irrigation so to speak then, we'll all have access to life.

And you know I've no issue with nicotine. Enjoy using it myself. The nicotine doesn't bring cancer. It might restrict blood vessels sure, but it doesn't bring cancer. Oops, let me qualify that last statement. All standard disclaimers apply and I am only basing it on various research articles, posts etc I've read.

Welcome to VU. So glad you quit! It gets easier as you go, but you might want to up your nic a bit to help you through right now. Especially if you’re vaping 3mg juice, you’ll definitely want to up it.

I was vaping 3mg for the first few weeks and it was really hard. Think about getting juice in 6 and 12mg. You can adjust it down with lower mg juice. You’ll get through this! You’re detoxing from cigs, but it gets easier.

So sorry to hear about your dad. You made the right choice!

Been mostly vaping here for about five years now. :)

Yes, I still at times back slide a tiny bit and might have half to a cigarette. Those are become fewer and farther apart times though. I rather vape.

Don't beat yourself up if you do back slide. Dust it off and keep trying to stick with vaping instead of cigarettes. We're all human after all and can all make mistakes.
