New Vapor. Not so great taste.

Hello,

I'm new to vaping so I'll certainly give reason that my expectations vs reality might be different. I've been using vaping to quit smoking (2 weeks cigarette free so far).

I have two different vapes. One is a Triton and the Aspire Breeze 2 from Halo. I've tried a few other units in the past but these are the two that stuck with me.

https://www.halocigs.com/triton/starter-kit/single-kit/
https://www.halocigs.com/aspire/breeze-2-starter-kit/

The thing that confuses me is anytime I vape only the first couple of hits have flavor, and it's pretty mild, after a few hits the flavor ceases altogether. Blueberry no longer tastes like anything close to blueberry and more like cigarette smoke. Maybe I'm hitting it too fast?

Initially I thought that maybe I had a bad tank or coils so I ordered new ones just to be certain, but that didn't change anything.

Anyone else experience this or have any advice to give? Thanks :)

Are you using regular juice or nic salt juice?

Congrats on your 2 weeks so far. Keep it going ! And welcome to VU :vino:
Now that you see that vaping can replace cigs for you, perhaps a MTL sub ohm tank? For greater flavor and more run time between charges?

Welcome to VU and congratulations on the two weeks.
Chain vaping can cause loss of flavor, your tongue gets flavor fatigue. Best to keep at least two different flavors going in separate setups to switch between. New vapers tend to need stronger sweeter flavors for the first few months, takes the taste buds a while to start healing from smoking. Might try ordering juices from companies that cater to newish vapers like Zeus e-juice and That1Vape. Their flavors are stronger and if you sign up for the newsletter you'll get alerts to sales. That1Vape has good deals weekly.

Grats on 2 weeks. Drinking water will help with "vapers tongue" also dry mouth and also to eliminate all that shit in your lungs from smoking. I coughed brown for about a month when I started. You could see the crud, and water makes it easier to cough that crap up.
Flavors I tried that worked are fruit explosion, captain crunch *or whatever name they give their version*, butter scotch ripple ice cream, and pastry flavors.
Now, I've started making my own flavors, like crunchy nuts cereal and cream, black forest ice cream, working on a peanut butter cookie recipe as well.

With me the flavor tastes great but then all of a sudden it tastes really weak almost like warm air.
The only way I have found is to have a few different devices with different flavors in them so I can switch them up when it happens.

I've never had it taste like smoke but it could be that you are getting a little bit of a burnt hit.

Thanks! I'll check out those sites here in just a few minutes. I've currently got two different flavors in my devices but admittedly I haven't tried going back and forth as originally planned.

Fruit flavors are what I tend to like. Blueberry, mango, anything along those lines. I'll try drinking more water as I vape and see if that helps. Thanks!

You could be right. Perhaps, I need to give it a little more space between vapes? I have a habit to hit it again fairly quickly. I loaded up a second device with a different flavor to see if that helps. Thanks!

I find citrus vapes like lemonades to be refreshing to change up vaping other flavors.

I’ve had that same thing with a lot of the prebuilt coil systems and store bought fruits. I ended up settle in cereal and desert flavors which seam to hold longer, at least for me.
Also I use multiple devices throughout the day which vape a little bit differently and it tends to break up he monotony.
Congrats on making the switch! Those first few weeks are the hardest.

Welcome to VU @letotron454!

I started with the Halo Triton 5 and a half years ago. It got me off the smokes so they have special place in my heart. Halo at that time made high PG percentage liquids, maybe higher VG percentages in non Halo juices could be cause? Their Triton tanks have top coils with silica wicks, so higher VG may not work. Something to look into... I found this on their site for the tanks: IMPORTANT: For best performance use with HALO Standard eliquids

Another thing is the Triton tilt and spin trick. Hold it horizontal and roll it between your fingers so the liquid gets all the way to the top of the wick on both sides of the wick.

As others have said, vaping with only one flavor at at time can cause flavor fade with your taste buds. The Triton tanks are only $6.50 so get a few spares and switch around your flavors.

I have lots more problems with flavor fade and such on fruit flavors than on custards and tobaccos.
I started with fruits for months. For years now fruits are only sometimes part of a muffin, cake, pie...

I'll have to try some different flavors. I pulled out Belgian Cocoa flavor today and pretty much got the same effect as I've been having. I'm really starting to think it's more me than anything else.

Right now, I've been buying all of my supplies off the Halo site. I've really enjoyed the experience of dealing with them in general thus far.

That trick of rolling them around has been pretty handy. It seems by doing that, I get more clouds as well with the Triton.

I've bought 3 different tanks now for the Triton. I have a menthol flavor in one, Belgian Cocoa in another, and Blueberry in yet a different one. And a different flavor altogether in the Aspire Breeze 2. The name of the flavor escapes me at the moment. Hoping that by switching them up throughout the day I start to see a difference. The more I swap devices though, the flavor problem seems to occur more frequently with Breeze 2.

You might also consider getting yourself some unflavored "base" juice. It can come in handy if you get vaping tongue. Vape unflavored 3 days to a week and let your sense of taste "reset" itself.

As @5150sick already pointed out, you might be getting semi-burnt hits as that could easily explain why it quickly starts tasting like smoke instead of like normal vapor. Avoid taking super long drags, and, give the tank enough time to cool down, like, for example, let it cool down by temporarily vaping on (a) different tank(s)... easier to do if you own multiple setups that you need for backup anyway in the first place, to avoid the risk of turning back to normal cigs in the possible event that, for whatever the reason, your setup stops working. If the amount of juice that's in the Triton gets below 0.2 it starts to get difficult for the wicks to get juice to the coil so, while the twirl technique suggested by @gopher_byrd certainly helps to get juice to the coil much faster, refilling the tank often enough also is critically important with the Triton tank.

For a lot of people, and especially for those who have just come off normal cigs or are trying to, resisting the urge to chain vape can be terribly hard at times. I stopped smoking in January 2017, yet I still chain vape more often than not... so, if anything keeps failing, moving away from factory premade coils (and fully towards an RDA with handbuilt coils) could be your best option because, for the way that I like to vape, I might as well get a half dozen Tritons and I would still get them all to overheat in a matter of only just a few minutes. Not saying you would, but there are other advantages that only an RDA can offer. Like, being able to change the nic level instantly on-the-fly. (E.g., by counting drops from two separate juice bottles each containing the same flavor, different nic strength.) Doing this will allow you to temporarily lower your nic level each time when you decide that you just want to keep chain vaping instead of waiting and watching grass grow all the time.

You'll find some gear suits your tastes better than others, you will also find you prefer different flavor profiles in some tanks or coils better than others.

BUMP.

This is a truism in vaping, it is quite a broad spectrum of subjectivity.

This is where my suggestion of a tank/regulated mod came from, without me actually saying it.

Being a new vapor your going to be feeling your way around what works/you like. Don't give up!
IMO, pods/similar can be gateway to stop the cigs and only a small % use only those.
Other than having other setups to try before buying, what's been suggested is a good way to go.
If it doesn't work out, let us know what you do and don't like about what you have.
