Getting into the mech world

I'm thinking of jumping into the world of mechs, does anyone have any suggestions on reasonably priced tubes that would be good to start with. I'm a single dad so I don't want to spend a ton of cash just in case I don't end up liking mechs. I know I could grab a clone cheap but I see so many split opinions on if they are safe or not, so I prefer to take the cautious route and go with an authentic. Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated

RNV chronicle tube mod. Super light. Well built. About 50 bucks I think. Authentic. And can be had at the Cloudist.store. Not shilling but I know he has them in mat brass. Some clones aren't bad either. The vindicator clone I had was pretty good. I didn't use it much so sold it here to @IcepickMaker84. He uses it all the time from what I see in handcheck. Subohm innovations had a huge sale the other week. Not sure if that's still on but members came away super cheap for quality work.

Someone else told me about the vindicator clone, I may have to check them out. A clone may end up being what I get just to see if I like mechs. I've never heard of subohm innovations but I'll definitely check them out! Thanks

I just got an ijoy ultra kit today. But had a recurve with it instead. Got it from here. It's actually really nice. 20700 but has and adapter. The kit comes with an ijoy 20700. Can throw in a coil and cotton. But need to check which battery for build. I'll post a pic in a second. Not sure where they may be in stock. But probably pretty available.

I'd never heard of it so didn't know what to expect but I was happy as soon as I opened the box. Sleak and small. Literally just a hair longer than a 20700

That clone Vindicator is nice!

I agree with @MrMeowgi on the chronicle. Good, cheap mech. $50 i believe now.

How much are you looking to spend? If you can go up to the $100-150 range, your options open up a lot.

Ok I just checked SOI's website. They extended their sale until june 21st. Code EXTEND gets you 70% off.

https://subohminnovations.com/collections/mods/products/szx-mod?variant=8151593877607

If you like red or blue, dont even look at other tubes. Just buy this one. $140 tube and you'll get it for about $42. Seriously, SOI is top notch quality IMO.

Edit: https://subohminnovations.com/collections/mods/products/sz-shorty-x?variant=1625263341578

This link is for their shorty mod. Great mod with more color options if you wanna go that route. I have both and they both work great.

Hmm....not one mention of Ohm's law or battery safety. Someone's sleeping on duty.
Here you are mentioning it. Right on time. Figure out what mod he gets and go from there with the batteries. But yes ohms law is the staple of mech builds. Learn it, live it, love it. Figure out what size you need and mooch them. (Google and type mooch behind the battery size.) That way you get the true rating. Need help there are 1000 different answers you'll get.

Yeah I wasn't going to look into batteries until I decide on what to buy for a mod, I had a noisy cricket before that was series/parallel so I've done my ohms law research already. I'm sure I'll still have loads of questions anyway once I do get a tube

My first mech was an AV Able clone. I figured if I do not dig it only out $20. If I do dig it and choose to buy an authentic the experience can only improve. Which it did. I was gifted an authentic Able soon after and is part of my rotation. The authentic is somewhat better made. Heavier in the hand but my well made clone is almost comparable imo. I do build the clone a little lower though.

That's exactly where I am at right now, I'm not sure if I will like mech tubes and being a single dad I can't see dropping a bunch of cash on something that I may or may not like, so I'm leaning more towards something like you did and grab something that if I don't like it won't be a total loss. God knows I've spend 20 dollars on liquid more then once that ended up sitting on my shelf because I didn't like it lol

I know I saw some tube mech clones in the hardware section. Seller can vouch for quality. With a company like FT you do not really know what your getting untill it hits your door. That's my suggestion.

If just starting out I and want to be cautions I would suggest something with a 510 pin (Broadside or VCM X1), its just one less thing to worry about. If you do choose a hybrid style connection please make sure to use an RDA with a protruding positive pin and as a general rule of thumb I would avoid using tanks on mechs. Also, if you are just sticking your toe and don't plan on using ultra low ohm builds you can find incredible deals on authentic mods from back in 2013-2014, granted at some point you may outgrow these devices, and will most likely be limited to 22mm attys with 3 post decks or smaller post holes. But then again you can find some great deals on "Competion RDAs" from the same period and in my opinion mechs work well enough with a simple round wire build. Vindicator and SOI X series mods are wonderful devices, but personally I never recommend a hybrid 510 connection for someone just starting out, especially if they will also be learning how to build their own coils.

I definitely don't have any want for a hybrid I do know that lol I don't mind 22mm, I use a couple now pretty regularly on a couple squonk mods.

Then in my opinion the world is you oyster. If you aren't opposed to ebay you should be able to find a 22mm authentic mod in no time. Honestly, mods are personal preference so what works for me may not work for you. Ill take a clean mirror polished tube over a heavily engraved mod. I can also appreciate a pinky fire button and don't always want to heavy magnet style button. What I am saying is so much depends on how you vape and your preference. At this vary moment I am vaping a Calmodz sidekick with a Dogev2. The setup excluding delivery was less than $30.00. I do get some heat transfer from the RDA to the Mod. Also, if you can find an OG SOI shorty its a stellar device with huge button upgrade from the nemesis styled buttons that were common place a several years back. This is just my opinion, but there are so many good devices that simply arn't popular anymore and far fewer mods that I would call complete junk. It really just depends on how I am feeling when I wake up and how I want to vape on any given day. That's what is great about Mechs I can put a Genny on a old school 18350 device and stealth vape or blow billows on "dangerously" low build. The beautiful thing right now is if you arent looking for the hottest new mod you can find a lot of quality devices at very bargain basement prices. Although not a starter device a SOI full set up with anvil posts for less than $70 is a deal. Find something you can afford, be safe and have fun.

When I first got Into vaping I was always buying the hottest stuff and what everyone said was great and was so disappointed most of the time, the last 6 months or so I buy what I like and vaping has become so much better! I prefer the sleek looking tubes also, I've seen a few with a small image engraved that wasn't too bad, but that plain sleek tube is what really catches my eye

I've been looking on ebay, my only issue with going there is no feedback or reviews, so needless to say I've been going from eBay to Google to try and see if certain ones are worth getting, I think I've looked at 30+ mods the last few days

At least you're researching the mods before you buy. Research is your best friend in vaping. Everyone has different styles and sometimes look for different things. I'm not much on bottom airflow because the airflow slots are directly beneath the coils and I always get condensation or juice seeping. But at the same time I like the recurve rda which has the af below the coil. Some are better than others. As far as mechs with a 510 and not hybrid the broadside is also I great one. Skeleton key clone if you can find one. The authentic is outrageous price but really worth it. I've got one of the clones myself on broadside and skeleton key. Honestly though the subohm innovations links further up would be the best deal for an authentic you'll probably find. And they're great mods. I've got a sub zero kit that I bought used for around 50 bucks I believe. So brand new for the same is a steal.

I was looking at a skeleton key clone, if I wasn't a single dad I would have already ordered from subohm, they got that 70% off right now and I could get a mod and rda for like 60 bucks. The longer I hold off the more research I can do is the way I look at it, I've blown way too much money on mods in the past just jumping the gun that I ended up hating, once I finally decide I'll just like it that much more, I hope any way lol

Since we talked about mechs I've been using the hell out of mine. Here's the broadside clone with a complyfe rda clone..$15 for the rda and I got the mod in a trade. It actually has another tube to stack and make a series mod. But done vape series much anymore.

Tube mechs with 510 pins are dumb. If you can’t ensure the atty is suitable for hybrid mod use, then you shouldn’t be using a mech anyway. Telling new mech users to avoid them is bullshit advice. Learn how to avoid creating a short or stick to regulated boxes.

Then tell the designers they're dumb and boycott them. Best advice for you. Broadside sold a lot for them to be dumb. Or should we boycott them because you think they're dumb.

That sounds like a hell of a deal and after researching CASSA I believe it to be organization all vapers can benefit from. I will probably join myself. Are you personally assiciated with CASSA? Just currious.

No affiliation with CASAA I'm just a smoker that quit by switching to vaping back in 2012. Maybe as a community we can save it by telling our story and letting the lay person know that vaping saves lives not takes them.

You and your little “like” crew are comical. My nuts taste good? Edit this too little man. Not many new tube mechs have 510 pins cause they’re dumb.

Ohhhh little man. I really feel hurt. Thanks for that. :giggle:. No need to edit. Yet. Wouldn't have to if you could be an adult and follow the rules. My 9yr Olds are pretty good at doing that.

Is Broomstick for real? Not mainstream, not popular = dumb. Not worth the time. He can have his opinion, even if the only way he can communicate is to dish out insults and try to belittle anyone who disagrees with him. Good luck with that.

Agree with you there Fozzy. I will research them a bit more and likely join. I was just wondering what sort of voice they give their members. Thank you for the information.

Definitly check them out. It's a good way to stay atop of all the proposed legislation that can and will most likely impact vaping and a way that each of us can get involved. Simply letting people know that as an adult you prefer to vape some fruity flavor may change the opinion of someone who only hears vaping is just like smoking analogs. I would probably still be smoking if it wasnt for modders innovating the industry, China clone makers making vaping more affordable and YouTubers like Phil Busardo, Grimm Green and Rick Tripper for educating my dumb ass. Hard to believe that vaping is now as big as it is. Sorry about the rant. I'm just afraid that ignorance and fear mongering are going to ruin it for everyone.

I appreciate your concerns but nothing will totally ruin it for me personally. I am confident if need dictates that I can build a mech, make vapable juice, etc. But this is America and our right to vape if we choose. Peace and love.
