Ive dealt with many here and have nothing but respect for you guys. I would hate to see anyone get burned/scammed by what is apparently flooding our hardware section. I wont go into names but remember this date 3/13/19...coincidence? I dont think so....

I've only had positive experiences here trading and selling, it would be a shame if we suddenly had some scammers muddy the hardware section.

Not sure exactly what the date you mention means, but I know of a couple of new members I'd stay far away from.

if they look in Hall of Shame they will

Sadly, we are no allowed threads in the Trading Post that are not actually selling something, no matter how well intentioned

Naming names is a-okay by the way

The feedback system is there as a net of protection for members, in my view if you get burned by someone call them out....they will either rectify/clarify their position, or at the very least allow other members to avoid said person

You have to use common sense when buying from the classifieds.

If the person is unknown or seems shady just don't deal with them.

That's easier said than done when it's something you have been searching for and/or the price is so good you can't pass it up.

If that happens the best thing you can do is request to use PayPal without friends and family.
That way it's a sale and covered by PayPal.

When you do f&f is just like you're sending money to a friend.

You have no way to get your money back if you choose the f&f option.

If I post that I'm looking for a Kennedy Vindicator and some guy keeps replying saying - I have ijoy.....you trade me -
I think most of us here are smart enough to know who to stay away from :poop:

For those who do not want to call someone out in a deal thread, I have in the past PMed a member who appeared to be getting scammed or if the seller has a bad rep

I feel for the unfortunate member who sent him gear for trade and the others he scammed.

Some people's kids :cuss2:

His first scam was "I'm a vet in rehab and someone stole my vape, Please help, God bless"

I have a question you mind answering. God forbid if this happens (someone scam) and I escalate to PayPal (no F&F used and paid the fee), does PayPal support vaping hardware /e-cigarette claim? Thanks

Good question.

I got Paypal involved in a Fasttech refund issue for vape gear. FT tried to keep $60 of my money and only offer me store credit instead of a refund because I had previously rolled a cancelled order into a gift certificate. I got Paypal involved and they gave me my money back.

I didn't go overboard making it known that the goods involved were vape gear, but Fasttech does take Paypal, and as far as I'm concerned it's on PP to know who they're doing business with.

Furthermore, in a transaction like the one you're talking about, unless Paypal's terms of service state otherwise, you have the right to buy anything you want that isn't illegal. If PP feels that they need to question WHAT you're buying, they should do that during the initial transaction, not wait until you try to get them to back up their money-back guarantee and then renege.

I'd read the terms of service and see if there's a prohibition in them for "tobacco products" generally or "vaporizers" or equivalent in particular.

The prohibition on vape gear and tobacco does not apply overseas, only the USA, which is why you can use PP at FastTech, 3F, etc but not domestic sellers like VaporDNA, Eciggity, etc

PayPal cuts both ways. I have refused G&S payments from new members in the past until recently, I took one. Buyers have 120 days to file a charge back, enough time to build up some positive feedback on a trading profile perhaps.....an old example for other stuff.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/326xa2/i_was_paypal_chargeback_scammed_for_4666_by_a/

I hope that does not apply for me (us), I don't think so, but bottom line for me going forward. F&F only for any transaction. Anything that doesn't comfortably fit F&F is a pass. Plenty of fine people here on VU but we all need to remember some may not be.

Edit, Sorry if I'm being Captain Obvious here or beating a dead horse.

Sorry to be the voice of negativity but you have to use extreme caution when buying and trading. Anybody can claim anything online because there is pretty much no way of proving their claims as true or false. These claims can be anything from sob stories to military experience, or even offering something for trade using edited pics from google or whatever.

The only thing you have on the person is their address (unless its a PO Box) and unless you are willing to go there in person (not recommended) there really is nothing you can do if you get scammed unless it is a high enough value to warrant police and court involvement. And for the most part the scammers know this.

When it comes to trading in multiplayer video games I tell people "Don't send more then you are willing to loose in case it's a scam". But you can't really use that mentality in real life trading or buying on a public internet forum.

I beg to differ: just never offer more than you might GIVE AWAY to a friend.. If you get screwed, pass the word.

Vaping Underground doesn't need to be Nazi-Central, as our moderators and regulars are pretty trustworthy. Newbs are a total unknown, (and again keep it all cheap and PIF-able).

Agree, please no Nazi central. Most around here I could trust to just hand them my wallet....newbs......especially lately...

Edit: newbs that only seem interested in the hardware thread are the one I'm referring to.

Hmm, thinking about this, I would recommend newbs be buyers for awhile - your PP$ is to a regular, he sees the money, you get the product: you both post. Newbs learn the system, (I did), and regulars gain more reliability.

This system seems to be working damned well - and no stupid ECF magic-permits and nazis involved.

The only twit I recall was that Broman*whatever twit, and everyone did exactly what was required.

Seems like everyone pretty much reacted as they should have in this most recent situation, too. As soon as hinky-meters started going off, people started to speak up. Hell, it ain't like it wasn't OBVIOUS that something wasn't right.

At this point the only thing I wonder is why the person's still around. If I had my finger on the red button, I'd have pressed it by now. If I were the one trying to perpetrate the con, I'd be licking my wounds under a fucking rock somewhere by now. Ya know? DUH...

So is there a reason their name hasn't been dropped yet? Let's get that shiz out in the open!

I agree.. I am unclear as to whom the latest dolt is - although, as mentioned elsewhere: this has been a year of heavy /ignore additions.

Ok, here it is for 30 minutes only, then I'm removing it. Please don't quote me.

I knew it was not me since I have never sold any vape stuff.
I tend to give it away or hoard it :)

Not as a mod here, but as a member there’s 3 people that set warning flags running at the moment...the 3 I’m taking about show signs of some of these

if it sounds to good to be true it nearly always is

if someone is pushing hard everywhere despite warnings not to

if they can’t post pictures or seemingly work out how to

they make up excuses right at the start

blame others for misgivings

ask you to pay in a way you aren’t comfortable with

ask you to send something through before paying

trying to trade for goods that seem disproportionate

not happy to provide clarification or full descriptions when asked

no forum participation outside of quick sale

Can’t type coherently

#sob story - not always if they are well known but praying on the emotions of others are not out of bounds for some unscrupulous assholes

Ask you to pm them instead of making sale info public

also one more to add, if you are interested in buying don’t feel you can’t ask for more info, ie today’s date and forum name on a piece of paper next to the item

I have only bought 1 time so far on vu. But if its not a seller i have seen arround. N isn't upfront and str8 4ward with the sale i wouldn't move 4ward with anything. Or posting same items in multiple threads sometimes at different prices. You can tell when it doesnt look or feel ok.

The first item I posted for sale here ended up being a trade with gadget! Great guy and first positive feedback. I've bought more than I've sold and found that some people don't give feedback for buyers despite quick payment and smooth transitions.

At the end of the day you just need to make sure everything passes the smell test.

Any seller that did exactly wat they said they would n the product was as described will always get good remarks n rating from me. As it is what i would want if i was selling. I also feel it is just the rite thing to do.
