Back when I found forums and the vaping community in general in early 2013 ECF was really the only thing going.
I mostly lurked but when I ever did ask a question Id get answered like I was an idiot and the person answering was god.

I tried posting a few news media articles and always got bitched at. it was always something.

1) Can't you change that horrible anti vaping title?
2) A variation of this story was already posted 3 minutes before yours, are you an idiot?

The one that did it for me:

3) You need to break the links!

That takes three extra steps and WHY would you want someone searching for something like "is ejuice antifreeze?" and ONLY get results they get are from tobacco control / pharma propagandists.

I'd want my link to pop up so at least there is a link to a different opinion.

So, I started hanging in a few facebook groups like mod envy and a group Smokie runs about shit you shouldn't buy.
Basically it's when you get total trash, scammed, etc... so I became very active in these grous

Then came April 2014 and I was asked if I wanted to do this.

It was like a dream come true.
I get to help people not smoke.

I personally think that is a very good cause.

Once I was doing this I didn't have time for other spots.

Ohh and NEVER question a God Mods actions over there!
it is like a Parents and a small child. Because I said so!

I am embarrassed to look back at my first little while here and the truly idiotic questions I asked. :D

Yes, everybody was very helpful and patient. Meg was super encouraging when I first started building and made me feel like a million bucks when I spun my first clapton. :)

I've belong to and have belonged to alot of vaping forums...the Vape Pit ( not for the faint of heart back in those days),HEM, Vapor Wall, Planet of the vapes, The Vaper's Cafe, ecf and others...VU is good because like the old Vape Pit you can talk like an adult about adult matters without having some bored banal pea brained mod laying their chickenshit made for TV morality on you......at least on VU they keep them on a short leash.Whereas at ECF they seemed to actually encourage the mentally ill , and sexually dysfunctional to become mods.I'd rather spend time with a VU member who is a complete asshole, than knit sweaters and sip hot chocolate at ECF.I may not like you, but I want there to be the freedom, and respect for you to be you.

My first vaping forum was avf. Then ECF. Then nu-vapor, which collapsed when the owner got cancer. A few of us from nv decided to come here. I'm also a member of some other vaping forums.

The thread with expat NV peeps, and the squonkers are bonkers thread kept me checking every day.

I have both elitist mods, and cheap clones. And can say that here, and have just as much interest and questions asked about the clone.

I have recently ventured out. Check new posts, play in challenges.

I post just as much on other forums. Classwife I consider a friend who I've known for years. I don't ever remember interacting with retired.

I often skim over cross forum drama, and the ECF ate my dingo shit. But am happy that folk are free to say it.

I've never been to another vape forum except some spots on fb years back. Was directed here by someone and lurked for a long time. I think when squonking became mainstream is when I jumped into the convo. Been running my lips ever since

Exactly.
I've been trying to do the same lately for something I have had experience with and feel I can correctly answer. (Not a lot..)
So many times I click on the thread and one of the regulars has already helped out. I don't want to list because I will forget someone, we all know the members.
Hats off to you ladies and gentlemen.

I came here after searching the internet for help with an rdta. This was when I first started building my own coils. I don't have any vaping hobbyist friends in real life. I know a lot of people that vape but they stick with one set up until it breaks.

I stuck around because of the people. Everyone that replied to my thread was helpful and friendly.

Then I got into DIY and had a couple people help me get started. One of them was juicy Lucy. I think the other one was BKToad. I haven't seen him around in years.

I tried going to ecf and Reddit a while after joining here to look at the for sale stuff and recipes but I hated the format of each one. Not easy on the eyes and harder to navigate.

Since then, I've gotten to know quite a few people and become good friends. That's what keeps me around.

This is going to be an interesting thread. As in life, forums are no different. When one offers constructive criticism, there are some who may take it personal when it's not meant to be. Something to keep in mind is all of our own personal experiences are different from one another and we all have differing opinions. What is a good fit for one, may not be for another and that's ok. That's what makes us different and above all else, interesting. It would be a pretty dull world if we all thought the same. Again, there are some really great folks here who have helped answer my questions in threads or private conversations and I am truly appreciative for them taking the time to do so.

For me it's people. I tried reddit but i'm not a fan of the format. Never really tried any other vape forum. FOund this one first and didn't have a reason to search further.

Like Letita9 Lately I'm lurking more than posting.
I read at a couple of Reddit places. The format blows. The most popular ecig sub if filled with noobs. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but the constant rookie questions get tiresome answering. Some of their moderators are reviewers. They steer them into what to buy, and tell them what "sucks". They must be getting paid because some of the shit they reccomend is just that...shit. Everything gets burried and after 6 months the thread is locked. There's no organization there, everything gets mixed up. I like that everything is kind of filed away here in sections. But most of all, this place has the best collection of folks.

Almost everyone here seems cool and I don't notice much "clique" mentality. Some places seem to have an elitist clique that tells you your wrong or gangs up. Most times it's the moderators. They probably feel empowered for the first time in their lives. It's the internet and we're only talking here. Take it easy. The mods here act like just normal people. To tell you the truth I don't even notice who they are most of the time.

There's a bunch of reasons why this is the best place on the internet to discuss vaping. Mostly it's rules, mods, format, and mostly the collection of people here. Oh, forgot to mention the ignore feature. If you get sick of reading someones post you can ghost them with one click of a button. Very handy :D.

I'd already been vaping for a couple years when I came here, but I was THOROUGHLY pissed off at both Retarded1 and Asswife, so I just refused to spend anymore time at ECF and be treated that way -- I was nearly 55 yrs old at the time, and really did NOT need kindergarten teachers treating me like I was 5. I missed all my friends there TERRIBLY.... but the folks here welcomed me with open arms, and I made some new friends, and that made it all worthwhile -- then the shit hit the fan with Roxy over there, and a bunch of my friends there came here, and all was right with my world. :) Then, the support I got here when my mom died in 2016 convinced me even further that this was a great place to hang around.

Recently I've spent less time here, because I really am trying to correct some of the vape ignorance I'm finding in such quantity over at Quora, and also doing some writing at my own site. So I pop up around here from time to time, but not daily as I used to -- I still consider it my "vape home," but I can't really help total newbies with hardware or eliquid info, I'm too far removed from what's available commercially nowadays... and most of you guys already know how great vaping is, and how beautifully it supports smoking cessation, so I really don't need to be "preaching to the choir," but trying to help others who want and need to quit smoking -- it's for sure that none of the pharma nic shit will do a damn bit of good for anyone.

I help when i can. If my knowledge and experience is in that area. Sometimes it gets frustrating when a new vaper has an idea stuck in their head that they need to be hitting it at 180w cus their mod goes that high.

or just cause their coil says max 180W they think they need to vape it there and complain of burning coils.

Yeah it is frustrating from time to time, but most of us do the best we can to help.

let's not forget, this forums "header' is pretty cool also.

Ya can do things with it too.
I was gonna make my own stickers for my vape-tacklebox, but then they started selling their own so I didn't. ;-)

IDK if they still have the vape-bands or such merch anymore though?

Vape however suits YOU best.
Not how some reviewer says to do it or what the coil says on it.
If you like how a max 180W coil vapes at 50W then you are doing it right for YOU.

@fidola13 vu has great people here as does ecf. It's as simple as just leaving a thread if you find it unpleasant, that's what I do anyway. There are plenty of drama free threads here too. Both forums have something to offer imo. VU gets its fair share of bashing over at ecf so both forums have their naysayers. I guess my point is the ball is always in your court at any forum.

Youre right. I usually stick to the stabwood thread. I probably should of stayed there. I just was hoping to meet more people.

You can here, many from both forums are here and most of the social and diy threads are as good or better than ecf. Frankly I like the diy forum here better and more useful. Bonus you can pickup some great coils to play with over here.

So very true. One of the best days of my life was when I realized you didn't need to be a cloud chaser to appreciate the great flavor you get from an RDA -- it's true there aren't a lot of options anymore for RDAs that offer tight draw (thus lower wattage needed), but there are a few; just really glad I got onto my Achilles RDAs. Wish to hell someone would start making clones of 'em again.

What about something like this? I don't even know what this is. I got it, and a whole bunch of other obviously old tight draw atomizers, and a bunch of other stuff, from a guy on Craigslist. Terrible rushed pics.

Big Block 454 RDA v1, likely a clone. Old school atty. :)

http://www.hawkvape.com/wholesale_kr_454_rda_atomizer_clone

They were clearing those out not long ago, eciggity / e-cig-city or some such.

PS, I have that exact ss/brass DT myself. :D
Is that good? Sure is built sturdy. I was thinking about trying it out. There's a bunch of old stuff in here that appears to be in good working order, but it's way before my time.

Never had one myself, some folks like 'em though. Can do crazy builds in there like triples and quad builds.

As you said, it's solid and SKX, which is the manufacturer for Infinite, generally made good clones.

If ya post up pics (probably in it's own thread), I'm sure we can ID all ya stuff though. ;)

Seems because everyone is bashing ecf is why. She don't like that. I've never been there. Kinda like S. America. I just don't wanna go
Oh there are some good people over there.
I miss some of them.
Kind of like having Nuns as mods though compared to here.
And question their actions and you get the ruler.
I got into a fuss with a mod over there when I posted a link to a vid of an auto commercial. Very G rated commercial and it got moved for being too controversial? And he never would say what was controversial about it.
This was in a non vaping related thread so not off topic or anything. Which they are quite picky about.

Anyway it went downhill from there and I wound up intentionally getting banned by telling the mod to consume excrement and expire :)
Only been back to view Mooch's blog. Not even viewed any regular posts.
edit: I have a shortcut that takes me straight to Mooch's blog.

I seriously doubt it's a very tight draw, since it's a dual-coil atty -- you need a bunch of airflow to keep a dual-coil setup cool enough to not burn the wick. The internal airhole should be no bigger than 1 or 1.2mm; it's irrelevant what the external airhole does, if the internal airhole is bigger than that.

This is the Achilles:
theREALachilles-plain_and_built.jpg

That airhole, right under the coil, is 1.2mm. If the airhole isn't right under the coil, it also won't provide much flavor, because the air just goes all over the place, rather than straight from coil/wick to mouth. That RDA you pictured also has no well, unless you want the coils themselves to be IN the ejuice. On the pic on the right, you can see the deep well of the Achilles, and once you screw on the tank ring, you can fill until the liquid level is right beneath the level of the airhole "stack" -- that's why it's so tall, so it has a larger capacity.

Not really a biggie. People nowadays really don't *get* what a truly tight draw really is -- which is why you sometimes see attys that can dial the external airhole down to 1mm, yet the internal is like 3 or 4mm -- which means it won't really give you a truly tight draw; it's just some mfr trying to pretend they're catering to ALL vapers. I really don't understand why some mfr can't take the design of the Achilles and make a new clone of it; it's a very simple design. The Caiman v4 is the closest I've found, but it's not quite tight enough, the flavor really isn't that great, and it holds a bit under 1ml. If I just had to use the Caiman v4, it's pretty close to adequate, and I could probably get used to it if I used it exclusively for a while... but it's nowhere as good as the Achilles.

I have the same 454's. 101 Vape had them on sale for $5 and were sold as authentics.
They are a tight draw with the stock drip tip. I use a different 510 on them and they loosened up quite a bit.
